CBS Sports ranks college football's most intimidating stadiums. Where did LSU rank?

USA Today21-07-2025
LSU football is annually recognized as one of the toughest places to play, and that isn't changing anytime soon.
CBS Sports ranked LSU atop its list of most intimidating venues ahead of the 2025 season. The top 10 follows a release by EA Sports' College Football 26 of the video game's toughest places to play.
"Tiger Stadium provides a pressure-cooker feel before every kickoff against SEC competition, especially when the game's played at night -- which happens often," CBS Sports' Brad Crawford said.
LSU welcomes Louisiana Tech, Florida, Southeastern Louisiana, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Western Kentucky into Baton Rouge for its 2025 home schedule.
"You get southern Super Bowl vibes before Alabama-LSU or Florida-LSU in Baton Rouge because the games mean so much to a passionate and buzzed fanbase," Crawford wrote.
Since 2003, LSU is 129-21 at home.
The Tigers generated plenty of hype during the offseason. Head coach Brian Kelly's staff took an aggressive approach to recruiting the transfer portal, which resulted in the highest-ranked class of the cycle. LSU's talent, mixed with a favorable home schedule, has the Tigers riding high into the 2025 season.
However, LSU will open the year away from the comfort of Tiger Stadium, traveling to take on Clemson.

Is Tigers star Riley Greene's facial hair to thank for Detroit turnaround?

The thing about baseball is, it's dumb. After a brutal stretch that saw the Detroit Tigers lose 12 of 13 games and score three runs in four games coming out of the All-Star Break, the team exploded Sunday against the Blue Jays for 10 runs before outscoring the Diamondbacks 24-5 in a three-game sweep with the trade deadline approaching. Is it platoon masher Kerry Carpenter's return to the lineup? Is it the Tigers' eight home runs in their last four games after hitting six in their previous nine? In a sport full of superstition, the Tigers' clubhouse is looking behind Door No. 3: Riley Greene's new facial hair. MLB DEADLINE: MLB trade deadline rumors: Latest news and updates from around baseball When Greene debuted his mustache-only look Sunday against the Blue Jays, Tigers commentator Jason Benetti took a moment to admire the newly beardless Tigers slugger's old-school look. "Walked by in the clubhouse and was like 'hey Riley – whoa! What? What's going on?'" Benetti said of Riley's new look on Sunday's Detroit broadcast. "He's gone full 1980s New York Yankees, the Chris Chambliss look for Riley Greene. Just change it up. Anything to win a ballgame." The Tigers have since won four ballgames, and some of them are crediting Greene's look with the streak. "We've all touched it," manager A.J. Hinch said of Greene's mustache after July 29's 12-2 win over the Diamondbacks, per the Detroit Free Press. "I'm not sure how that's going to go with quotes around it. In the handshake line, he said, 'We're 3-0 with the mustache.' There's a little bit of belief in there." Greene, for his part, has kept the mustache but is saying the Tigers' recent turnaround as more to do with the ebbs and flows of the sport. "It's the game of baseball," he said. "I feel like every good team goes through something like this. Look at all the teams. They've gone through some touch stretches. It is what it is. I think it showed that, us as a team, we stayed confident, and we got out of it. We've only won three games, so we got to keep going and make things happen." Carpenter, meanwhile, is not crediting superstition for the team's recent successes. "That's fake news," he said July 29. "No superstitions." Indeed, the Tigers' social media team has become a bit obsessed with staches in recent days, going beyond Greene's facial hair and implying Jake Rogers, who has been covering his top lip far longer than Greene has, is benefitting. STACHE POWER Greene himself admitted the obsession with touching it is "getting kind of weird." With the trade deadline approaching, the Tigers are playing like buyers again after consternation about how serious they were coming out of the All-Star break. Did Riley Greene's mustache save the season? Probably not. But in baseball, there's always that little "what if?"

Reigning champion Clemson is again the ACC preseason football favorite, ahead of Miami and SMU

Associated Press Clemson is the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference ahead of Miami and SMU, while North Carolina is picked to finish eighth in its first season under NFL coaching great Bill Belichick. The league released its preseason poll Wednesday among media members who attended last week's preseason football media days in Charlotte, North Carolina. The reigning champion Tigers earned 167 of 183 possible first-place votes as the runaway choice to win the league for the 10th time under Dabo Swinney, a run that includes eight of the last 10 going back to the 2015 season. 'We've been around a lot of good teams, and this team has the ingredients to be a really good team, but we've got to go do the work," Swinney said last week at the ACC Kickoff event. 'We can't talk about it or predict our way into it. Y'all can't predict our way into it. We've got to go do it and do the work.' The Hurricanes were picked second and earned seven first-place votes, coming as they look to Georgia transfer quarterback Carson Beck to fill the job vacated by No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Cam Ward. The Mustangs were third after reaching last year's ACC title game in their first season in the conference amid the league's westward expansion, and is coming off consecutive 11-win seasons under Rhett Lashlee. As for the Tar Heels, Belichick is a first-time college coach who led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles. The Tar Heels have overhauled their roster in a bid to reshape and elevate their program, though it's unclear exactly how well it will work — landing them in the middle of the 17-team league. Georgia Tech was picked fourth, followed by Louisville, Duke and Florida State — last year's preseason favorite that won only two games in a stunning flop. Pittsburgh was ninth, followed by N.C. State, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Boston College and Virginia. California was 15th, followed by the two other league schools breaking in new head coaches: Wake Forest with Jake Dickert, and Stanford with former NFL head coach Frank Reich working under an interim tag. The league is scheduled to release it preseason all-ACC honors Thursday. ___ AP college football: and recommended Item 1 of 3
