Firefighters battle blaze near Athens for second day
Hundreds of firefighters battled a deadly wildfire near Athens for a second day Saturday, with strong winds raising fears it could spread. A fire department spokesman said more than 260 firefighters with nearly 80 fire engines and 12 aircraft were deployed near Keratea, a rural area some 43 kilometres (27 miles) southeast of Athens. "The fire has weakened but there are still active pockets," the spokesman told AFP. A new fire broke out close to the nearby town of Kouvaras on Saturday but was quickly brought under control. Dimitris Loukas, mayor of the nearest city of Lavrio, said the Keratea fire that broke out Friday had devastated nearly 10,000 acres of brush and forest. "Many homes were destroyed, in addition to other properties, agricultural and forest land," he told state news agency ANA. Firefighters and police evacuated dozens of people late Friday from homes and an elderly care centre as the flames neared the coastal resort of Palaia Fokaia. While we were able to sit pool-side and get served via it's super-funky (and highly social-media-friendly) Champagne wall where you ring a bell and are served a glass of chilled bubbly from an eerily gloved hand(!), I found the boat to be not too packed to really need it. Everything you'd want, from artisanal cocktails at Good Spirits to fine dining was available with the Premier Pass. It's also incredibly affordable, working out to about $3,000 per person for a 7-day sailing. Of course, there are always upcharges, and for meal options such as Wagyu steak at Teppanyaki, or whole lobster at Rudi's, there are additional costs, however, I found them to be totally reasonable for what was offered, and when thrown in as extras, you might not find the additional charges to be more than a few hundred on top of your stay. Final Verdict: The Sun Princess Is the Best New Cruise for Food Lovers I can safely say that this cruise is definitely a food lover's dream, and I was already envisioning coming back for a 50th birthday group party thanks to its plethora of options for every taste and food preference without the hassle of having to book everything myself. And beyond the culinary options, it was the overall always-on entertainment, anticipatory service of all waitstaff, hospitality of the cruise director, total professionalism of the experience and quiet-luxe style that made Princess standout among a sea—no pun intended—of competition. American Airlines adds international routes, including for soccer fans
American Airlines will begin one new Europe route next summer and bring back three dormant ones. It also will add or extend service between Dallas-Fort Worth and two international destinations specifically for the World Cup. American's first-time Europe service will connect Dallas with Athens daily on a summer-seasonal basis beginning May 21. From the East Coast, American will add daily, summer-seasonal flights between Philadelphia and Prague and between Philadelphia and Budapest, also on May 21. The airline last flew both routes in 2019, according to Cirium's flight-schedule data. Further south, American will connect Miami and Milan with daily, year-round flights starting March 29, resuming a route the airline operated until its suspension at the start of the pandemic. American is the only carrier scheduled to fly each of its new European routes. Philadelphia-Budapest is the only scheduled nonstop service for next summer from the U.S. to Hungary. All four routes will be operated with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. American will also offer flights connecting Dallas with soccer-loving Argentina from May 21 to Aug. 3. The airline typically only flies Dallas-Buenos Aires during the winter.
