Corfu visitors hit back after gran's Greek holiday rant on 'no British food' at hotel

A holiday row has erupted after a British gran slammed a Corfu hotel after not serving enough "proper English food."
Susan Edwards, 69, from Westerhope, Newcastle, blasted the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel for its Mediterranean menu, claiming there weren't enough chips and she became "sick to death of looking at rice", reports the Mirror.
However, regulars at the hotel have hit back at the British gran, taking to Tripadvisor and Google Reviews to defend their beloved resort and insisting that Ms Edwards' criticism is unfair.
The hotel boss also defended the menu, describing the offerings as "generous and diverse", and said "fresh salads, fruits, hot and cold dishes" are served daily.
One guest became so enraged they left their first-ever Tripadvisor review to brand other guests as "pathetic chavs".
The account, created only this month seemingly in response to the row, rated Lido Corfu Sun Hotel as five stars out of five. The review reads: "Don't listen to pathetic chavvy Brits and Poles who bought the cheapest 'all Inclusive' package in existence and demanded type of service only the most entitled and uncouth would. It's a fine, charming little place. Close to water, nice food and clean facilities. Thankfully, no British food!"
Another reviewer also left a small dig at Ms Edwards', insisting that the Greek food is delicious. They, seemingly tongue in cheek, praised the offerings for Scottish guests in the critique, left hours after Ms Edwards' story emerged.
The tourist wrote: "Phenomenal hotel, very comfortable and well located for a relaxing holiday, we are regular visitors. Excellent all inclusive food and drink package, they really go out their way to cater for Scottish visitors.
"We enjoyed draught Tennant's lager, Irn Bru was on tap (diet and full fat), square sausage on a roll at breakfast, scotch pies and bridies at lunchtime, and there was always a choice of haggis or mince 'n tatties at dinner. Tunnock's tea cakes and shortbread were available all day, along with Scottish Blend tea. The staff are lovely and cannot do enough for you. The Greek dishes are also immense, which is a bonus, as Corfu is in Greece."
Meanwhile, the Lido Corfu Sun is raking in five-star reviews on Google. Plenrty of these top reviews have been shared since the drama erupted.
One reads: "The food is delicious. The service is great. We arrived at 4am and at 8am we got a room and wristbands and we could use everything. On the day of departure after adding the key to the transfer itself we could use all the facilities and food. We sincerely recommend."

The glowing praise is a far cry from Mrs Edwards' experience, from Westerhope, Newscastle, who described her holiday as "horrendous" from the moment she arrived with her daughter, two cousins and second cousin.
TUI offered the guests £100 in holiday vouchers, with a spokesperson saying they were "sorry to hear" about her experience. They said: "Our priority is to ensure customers have the best possible holiday experience, so we are sorry to hear that Ms Edwards felt dissatisfied with her holiday. We have been in touch directly with Ms Edwards to come to a resolution."

The LAX/Metro Transit Center is opening today—here's what you need to know
L.A. has never been exactly renowned for its public transit, but Metro is working overtime to change that—specifically in time for next year's FIFA World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl and, of course, the 2028 Olympics. One huge step in the right direction? Starting today, June 6, access to the Los Angeles International Airport —one of the busiest airports in the country—will become more streamlined, thanks to the LAX/Metro Transit Center, the ambitious new station Angelenos have long been asking for. In the words of L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, today marks the 'beginning of a new era in our city.' And to celebrate the big opening, rides across the entire Metro system—rail lines, buses, Metro Bike Share and rideshare service Metro Micro—are free from Friday through Sunday. The LAX/Metro Transit Center officially opened to mariachi music and remarks from city leaders including Mayor Bass, Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins and Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn, who joked that the nine most terrifying words in the English language are 'Hey, can you give me a ride to LAX?' Here's hoping the new station means fielding fewer of those dreaded requests from your friends. LAX/Metro Transit Center Station rail and bus connections The new station, located at 9225 Aviation Boulevard, closes the final gap in the K Line, which will now run directly from Expo/Crenshaw to Redondo Beach—the airport-adjacent center fills a gap in that line that used to require you to take a bus to continue south. And it's the new terminus of the C line, which starts in Norwalk (it also connects the C and K lines—an added benefit). If you live along the C or K lines, the station is a godsend for airport visits. But if you don't live in, say, Inglewood or Downey, will this benefit you? Well, as you can see in the map below, these lines also intersect with other lines, meaning that with just one transfer, you can find yourself on a train bound for the airport. The A line (Azusa to Long Beach) allows you to transfer to the C line, and the E line, which reaches all the way from Santa Monica through Downtown and into East L.A., meets up with the K line, meaning those riders can also map a car-free route to LAX. (Though from Santa Monica and Downtown, there are buses that can probably get you to the station more directly and quickly.) In addition to the two light rail lines stopping at the station, the LAX/Metro Transit Center will also serve 14 bus lines—including six Metro bus lines and partner lines including the Big Blue Bus, Culver CityBus, Torrance Transit, GTrans and Beach Cities—with 16 bays for bus transfers. The station will also offer a Metro Micro bay. What about the Automated People Mover? Now, once you've done all the mental navigation and actual navigation of getting to the LAX/Metro Transit Center with your luggage in tow, unfortunately you're not done yet. That's when you'll need to board a free Los Angeles World Airports shuttle to LAX, which will run every 10 minutes and deposit you at your terminal. That's not a bad solution, but it's a placeholder until the long-awaited Automated People Mover is ready—which is projected to finally open in early 2026 (though you can see it doing some test runs through the station now). When that glorious day arrives, the APM will allow travelers to step onto elevated, entirely electric train cars and bypass traffic on their way to the terminals. While the idea has been decades in the making, actual construction on the nearly $900-million project began in 2021, and it's the eighth completed project in Metro's ambitious Twenty-Eight by '28 initiative—which is prioritizing projects that will provide more connectivity to major sports venues for the city's upcoming 'car-free' Olympics. The entire site of the station is approximately 500,000 square feet (the size of almost nine football fields). It boasts 11 elevators, 12 escalators and nine staircases where you can access the bus bays on the ground level or ascend and then descend to the concourse, where you'll find the light rail trains. The MTC will be able to accommodate up to 5,000 passengers an hour. While there aren't dining and shopping options like you'll find in some cities' major transit stations, there are public restrooms, a customer service center and automated storage for 50 bikes. The visual centerpiece is an origami-like spiral sculpture, 'The Distance of the Sun,' by L.A. native artist Glenn Kaino that hangs above the escalators. Elsewhere in the station, digital displays depict 18 poignant portraits of Metro riders created by local artists. There's still more work to be done, but the LAX/Metro Transit Center is an impressive achievement that the city and its residents can be proud of. Any step toward making the airport experience a bit easier and connecting the disparate parts of L.A. is a huge win.

Beautiful seaside village named 'the best in England' with endless charm
This village in Cornwall has been named in Conde Nast Traveller's list of the best seaside places in England in 2025, known for its stunning harbour and sandy beach A picturesque Cornish seaside village has been recognised as one of the best in the country. The South West is a popular holiday destination, known for its charming towns and breathtaking coastlines. Tucked away in the western part of Cornwall, about three miles from Penzance, lies the historic fishing village of Mousehole. It has been included in Conde Nast Traveller's list of the top seaside spots in England for 2025. The guide characterised Mousehole as "one of the county's most picturesque fishing villages" and an ideal place to "escape the hustle and bustle of city life". Mousehole is renowned for its beautiful harbour and sandy beach. The village also boasts a variety of galleries, gift shops and eateries. Over the years, the area has managed to retain much of its unique and historic charm. The streets are adorned with traditional buildings, some of which date back to the 13th century, reports Cornwall Live. For those who enjoy walking, the coastal walk from Mousehole to Lamorna offers stunning views of the coastline. The village has garnered numerous favourable reviews on TripAdvisor, with visitors praising its picturesque scenery and abundance of activities. Reviewers have described it as "very beautiful" and a "lovely little harbour" with a small sandy beach that's safe for children to play on. One reviewer, Lampwicke, commented: "A lovely little harbour with small sandy beach. Safe for children to play. Very picturesque with little cottages surrounding it." SailingElleray added: "Mousehole is a very beautiful place. You can snap off photos all day and never capture all of its quirkiness, quaintness and sheer beauty." Passengers warned of strikes at Glasgow Airport this summer over union's dispute with 5 companies

Holidaymakers have been issued a fresh warning of the potential for strike action at Glasgow Airport over the summer, as a leading union confirmed more than 800 workers from five companies were involved in pay disputes. Unite said workers at Glasgow Airport Ltd, ICTS Central Search, Swissport, Menzies Aviation and Falck could be balloted for walkouts. Unite warned strikes could 'ground planes and passengers'. Pat McIlvogue, Unite industrial officer, said walkouts could be held from the middle of July. More than 100 Swissport workers are locked in a dispute about rotas and work-life balance, according to Unite. The union said the company 'is demanding that workers at extreme short notice have to work shifts at various times and for various durations, which is directly impacting on their personal lives'. Unite said some Swissport staff were 'struggling with chronic fatigue'. A total of 120 workers employed by Glasgow Airport Limited have rejected a basic 3.6 per cent pay increase, with staff including airport ambassadors, airside support officers, engineers and managers involved. The same 3.6 per cent pay increase was rejected by 50 Falck firefighters who perform fire safety functions at the airport. Meanwhile 300 Menzies Aviation workers, including dispatchers, allocators, airside agents and controllers, have rejected a basic uplift worth around 4.25 per cent. The union recently announced a series of what it said were wage wins for 100 North Air workers across Scottish airports, and more than 140 staff based at Glasgow Airport employed by ABM and OCS. 'If the companies refuse to work with Unite to resolve these disputes, then we will have no option but to open strike ballots. This could mean strike action happening from the middle of July.' A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said: "We have ongoing dialogue with Unite regarding a pay deal for our direct workforce."
