How To Wear Straight Leg Jeans Like an Off-Duty Model This Summer

Vogue02-05-2025

Are you ready for the return of straight leg jeans?
For the longest time, it felt like baggy jeans were the only choice for the street style crowd—ideally low-rise, with some pointy or Tabi boots being swallowed up by the pooling hems. In recent months though, and as the weather's picked up, another style of jeans has been shuffling their way onto our moodboards. I'm talking, of course, about straight leg jeans—not baggy, not skinny, but that sweet spot in between.
I first started seeing a noticeable return to the humble straight leg around fashion month earlier this year, when it was clearly the go-to uniform for off-duty models slouching around Paris and New York. Usually low or mid-rise, and worn with loafers, ballet flats, or boots, the straight leg feels casual and low effort, without totally swamping you like some baggy jeans can. And if, like me, you'll never be on board with a return to skinny, the straight leg is an easy alternative that feels like a classic.

Really, it's no wonder that models have jumped aboard the straight leg train en masse—the style has made an appearance on the catwalk more recently, too. Think: The low-slung straight leg jeans for Diesel's fall 2025 collection, or all the shimmery and glitter-studded straight legs at Versace's fall 2025 show, or even the slouchy, not-quite-skinny jeans for Dsquared2's fall 2025 collection. While the straight leg jean has become a fave in the run up to summer, the style clearly isn't going anywhere.
Bella Hadid—who I consider a sort of soothsayer when it comes to jeans—has also been on the straight leg jeans trend for a minute. Often pairing hers with a vest and trainers, or sometimes a lil stiletto, the 28-year-old model has got straight leg outfit combos down to a fine art. She's also not averse to a high-rise straight leg with a belt, which feels very 'early 2010s mom' in the best way possible. Controversial take, but: I feel like she eats in a straight leg even more than she does a bootcut.

Fortunately, finding the most perfect straight leg jeans for summer is a relatively painless experience—unlike, say, piling a gazillion bootcuts into a harshly lit changing room. My colleague Alice Cary swears by vintage straight legs, as the denim has a bit more life to it. 'The pair of Levi's 501s I found in a vintage store in the US several years ago are perfectly worn-in and will continue to age as I wear them,' she wrote for British Vogue recently. 'They have a finish that's hard to replicate in a factory.'
Obviously models look good in anything—that's literally their job. But if there's one trend that's worth replicating this year from the GOATs of low-key cool, it's the straight leg. Whether you're a model or not, I truly believe you can't go wrong with this straight up-and-down classic.

Maya Jama's Love Island outfits are summer style inspo, here's where all her looks are from

Love Island is officially back on our screens for another series, and alongside the usual drama drawing us in night after night, we'll be tuning in to see Maya Jama. Or more specifically, her outfits. Yep, when it comes to the ultimate summer style inspo, you can't beat the TV presenter's drool-worthy wardrobe as she returns yet again to host the reality show. Previous years have seen her don see-through designs, daring cut-out dresses and so much more. Or do we mean less...? You may not have a firepit dumping to attend, but if you – like us – want to recreate these looks on your summer holiday, keep reading for all the deets on exactly where Maya's latest Love Island outfits are from, plus how you can recreate the look for yourself. We'll be updating throughout this latest season where all of Maya's 'fits are from. Go big or go home seemed to be the message as Maya appeared on screen on three (!!) separate occasions, obvs wearing a different outfit each time. First up was this gorge vintage Versace ensemble consisting of a plunging scoop-neck pink printed swimsuit and coordinating scarf sarong, with a second scarf worn in her hair as a headband. A gold chain belt made up of starfish and shell motifs was slung low around her hips. The entire look was modelled on Claudia Schiffer who wore something incredibly similar to walk the Italian fashion house's 1991 runway show. Maya finished her debut outfit with a gold shell cuff and Chloé shell drop earrings. Next up, for her entrance into the villa, Maya opted for another vintage find. This time, a 2004 Roberto Cavalli black backed strappy midi dress decorated all over with a multicoloured floral print. And finally, for her return to the villa later that evening, Maya donned a black bodysuit with a see-through, ruched tulle overall that fell all the way to the floor. The naked dress featured intricate embroidery across the hips, depicting green vines with yellow flower buds. Maya accessorised the look with a statement bejewelled gold crucifix necklace. We've seen some *major* looks from Maya over the years, so have rounded up our favourites of all time. Hello to this stunning – and oh so see-through – Norma Kamali shirred gown that Maya layered over a black balconette bralette and coordianting high-leg thong. Maya kicked off the first spin-off series of Love Island: All Stars wearing this gorgeous Mixedgals Marcia maxi dress. Another see-through number, the white sheer fabric was adorned with 3D flowers to nail the corsage trend. To kick off series 10, Maya rocked up to the infamous villa wearing Cult Gaia's Accalia backless white crochet dress. Winter Love Island might not have the same buzz as the OG summertime show, but thankfully, Maya made sure to pull out all the stops with her wardrobe. Especially as it was her debut hosting, taking the reins from Laura Whitmore. She kicked off the show in this black halterneck maxi that had SO many cut-outs and negative space panels. Half dress, half bikini, the Monot dress was from Annie's Ibiza. Follow Alex on Instagram. Alexandria Dale is the Digital Fashion Writer at Cosmopolitan UK. Bella Hadid Convinced Me to Buy 501 Levi's Shorts on Amazon

Aside from the fact that Bella Hadid is a super rich supermodel with a cowboy BF who looks like he galloped straight out of a smutty beach read, I can sooo relate to the Kin Euphorics co-founder. I, too, have dyed my brunette hair a blinding blonde and think women shouldn't have to work on their period. We're two peas in my (delulu) pod. And while her wardrobe might occasionally lean unrelatable—she is still a super rich supermodel, after all—her latest look is not only totally accessible, but has convinced me to finally buy a pair of 501 Levi's cutoffs for myself. Bella was photographed making a quick pit stop to pump gas (see, relatable queen, told you!) in Aspen on Sunday, wearing a medium wash of the style with Classic Micro Uggs, a casual tee, and red varsity jacket. Though, TBH, I don't know her exact shade, I found a pretty (if not exact) match for her shorts on Amazon—and they're only $34. The universally flattering summer staple has that lived-in vintage feel but with a little update from the OGs. The style has a waist-defining high rise fit and 100% cotton fabric that won't stretch out two sizes too big after just one wear. But, even though they hold their shape well, they still have just the right amount of give so you're not uncomfy. Thousands of shoppers raved about the denim shorts. "This is my first pair of Levi's or shorts without stretch so I went through hundreds of reviews to settle on a size and these are perfect," one customer said, before adding that "they make [their] legs look longer" and are "surprisingly comfortable too." Another said that the "fit is amazing" and they're "snug in all the right places without being too tight." Others added that they're "always true to size" and "super flattering on any body type." If you want to complete Bella's entire look, you can snag her Uggs to pair with the denim and toss on a simple red bomber (maybe this one or this one?). I'm certainly going to just in hopes I manifest a cowboy BF of my own. Megan Schaltegger is an NYC-based writer. Bella Hadid's Gas Station Outing Recreates an Iconic Supermodel Commercial

When you're a top-tier supermodel, you can turn even the most mundane tasks into a catwalk moment. Take Emily Ratajkowski, who routinely walks her dog Colombo in plenty of high-fashion looks. Yesterday, fellow super Bella Hadid was spotted road-tripping in Aspen, Colorado—and she, too, turned her pitstop at a gas station into a full-on photo shoot. Rocking a sporty red varsity jacket with a classic tee and denim cut-offs, she flipped her hair dramatically while filling up her SUV. The whole vibe of gas station glamour nodded back to an iconic commercial from the 90s. You know the famous TV spot we're hinting at. Think back to 1992, when supermodel Cindy Crawford starred in a Pepsi commercial that had everyone talking. The clip sees Crawford roll up to a gas station in a red Lamborghini wearing a white bodysuit and jean shorts. When she stops to buy a Pepsi and flips her hair, two small boys look on in complete adoration. The same could be said for Hadid's serve by the gas pumps: She made working the gas nozzle look totally fierce.
