Rangers ‘interested in La Liga striker but face competition from Russell Martin's old club'

Rangers hunt for a new striker continues and it appears as though that could lead them to a Cameroonian forward who plays in Spain.
It's as they look set to miss out on Israeli striker Dor Turgeman who is on the verge of completing a move to New England Revolution in MLS.

Etta Eyong struck 19 times in 30 games for Villarreal's B team last season and has been promoted to the senior squad.
He's continued his fine form into this season, being the club's top goalscorer in pre-season and netting in their opening day 2-0 win over Real Oviedo in La Liga.
He played alongside Gerard Moreno on Friday but despite impressing, the future of the 21-year-old is uncertain, according to reports.
Villarreal are still looking to strengthen their attacking options.
And, should they bring in another forward before the close of the transfer window, Eyong's game time at such an important stage in his development could be limited.
Rangers reportedly are interested in the young striker and face competition from one of Russell Martin's old clubs Swansea City.
Spanish media El Chiringuito TV claim Swansea have had "a loan offer rejected, with the forward wanting to stay at Villarreal."
Premier League new boys Leeds and La Liga outfit Levante are also being credited with an interest.
Russell Martin is keen to get another striker into Ibrox with transfer speculation continuing to surround Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers.
It's reported Rangers rejected a loan bid from Lille for Igamane who has apparently made it known he would be keen on a move to the Ligue 1 side.
Uncertainty around Dessers continues with the 30-year-old being heavily linked with a switch to Greece throughout this summer window.
Several reports had it as good as a done deal, with claims of personal terms being agreed but more significantly the clubs were still some way apart on his valuation.
Meanwhile, Rangers are in action on Tuesday for their first leg against Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off.
Kick off at Ibrox is at 8pm.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has won a record third Professional Footballers' Association Men's Player of the Year award, with Arsenal's Mariona Caldentey collecting the women's accolade. The 33-year-old Egypt international scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists as Arne Slot's Reds stormed to last season's Premier League title. Salah's stunning form in 2024/25 saw him dominate the voting by the PFA's membership and enter the history books as the first three-time Player of the Year winner. The PFA crown complements the record-equalling third Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award picked up earlier in the year. PFA Women's Player of the Year Caldentey, 29, moved to Arsenal last summer and scored 19 goals in all competitions, including eight on the Gunners' way to lifting the Champions League with a victory in the final against her former club Barcelona.
