Kyle Manzardo's second career 2-homer game powers Guardians to 10-4 win over Rockies
Manzardo hit a two-run shot off Rockies starter Tanner Gordon (2-3) in the third inning and a solo homer against Jimmy Herget in the sixth. His other two-homer game occurred last Sept. 1 against Pittsburgh.
Gabriel Arias added a two-run single and José Ramírez and Bo Naylor scored two runs apiece for the Guardians, who are 3 1/2 games out of the final American League wild-card spot with Thursday's trade deadline looming.
Logan Allen (7-9) worked seven innings and allowed two runs on homers by Jordan Beck and Michael Toglia. The left-hander threw a career-high 113 pitches and matched his longest outing, winning for the second time in his last seven decisions.
Cleveland built 7-0 and 10-1 leads, tying its season-best with 15 hits. Manzardo posted three and Nolan Jones, Daniel Schneemann, Ramírez and Rocchio each had two.
Colorado's Warming Bernabel went 2 for 4 with a double and is batting .400 with two homers and three RBIs over his first four major league games. Kyle Farmer had a solo home run.
Key moment
Gordon fell off the mound on an aborted pitch in the second when his plant foot slipped on the dirt for a balk. David Fry advanced to second then scored when left fielder Beck mishandled Rocchio's single, giving Cleveland an unearned run.
Key stat
The Guardians have won 13 of their last 19 games, a surge that began immediately after they lost a season-high 10 straight from June 26 through July 6.
Up next
Rockies LHP Kyle Freeland (2-10, 5.24 ERA), who allowed four solo homers in his last start July 25 at Baltimore, pitches the series finale. The Guardians have not announced a starter.

Cleveland Browns Dealt Troubling Shedeur Sanders Blow on Wednesday
Cleveland Browns Dealt Troubling Shedeur Sanders Blow on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After being projected as a potential top five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders fell to the fifth round where the Cleveland Browns selected him with the No. 144 pick. The son of Deion Sanders now finds himself in a quarterback battle with fourth other signal callers and is hoping to take advantage of every rep he gets. Sanders, 23, got the starting nod in the team's preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, leading the team to a 30-10 victory. Despite minimal reps with the ones, Sanders was able to shine, completing 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. While many assumed this would be enough to move him up the depth chart past fellow rookie, Dillon Gabriel who the Browns drafted in the third round, Sanders still finds himself at the bottom of the depth chart. As if he didn't already have an uphill journey to earn a starting or even backup role, Sanders was hit with untimely news on Wednesday. Shedeur Sanders Suffers Setback As reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, Sanders suffered an oblique injury during the team's Wednesday practice. "Browns QB Shedeur Sanders suffered an oblique injury while throwing during the early portion of practice today, and was held out for the rest of the session," wrote Schefter. Although this explains why Sanders didn't receive a single rep in the team's joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles, it certainly could not come at a worse time. Shedeur Sanders Was In Line to Start Second Preseason Game The development comes about an hour after head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Sanders would start the team's Saturday preseason game against the Eagles if Gabriel and Pickett were unable to play. This is the second injury of the preseason for Sanders who also dealt with an arm injury last week. If he is unable to practice or play, his chances of working his way of the depth chart will take a huge hit. Now, it's entirely possible he was held out for precautionary reasons and may be able to play on Saturday, but any reps missed are a missed story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

Mics Caught Browns GM's Real Opinion Of Shedeur Sanders' Preseason Debut
Mics Caught Browns GM's Real Opinion Of Shedeur Sanders' Preseason Debut originally appeared on The Spun. Last Friday, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders put the NFL on notice by lighting up the Carolina Panthers in his preseason debut. Sanders completed 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns. His performance was impressive enough to warrant a move up the depth chart, albeit the Browns were unwilling to make that type of commitment. Plenty of NFL fans accused Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry of sabotaging Sanders prior to Friday's game. While the rumors haven't died down completely, Cleveland's video team recorded some footage that should put any rumors about Berry to rest. After Sanders' preseason debut was over, he received words of encouragement from Berry on the sideline. "Really, really good job," Berry told Sanders. "I'm proud of you. Really really nice job." Sanders then replied, "You're not fully proud - kind of proud." That led to a really wise response from Berry. "Look, was it perfect? No. But you made plays, you operated," Berry said. "So just stack the next one. Listen, you did a nice job, okay? So just take what you learned from tonight, apply it to the joint practices, and then the next preseason game. Alright? ... Really good job. That's a great start." Sanders will have to wait for his second chance. Unfortunately, Sanders isn't expected to suit up on Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles. That's because he's battling an oblique strain. 'Yeah, felt it early, I think warming up and then felt it throughout individual [drills], so took a look at it. If it's a right guard, you can play through that. When it's a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw,' Stefanski said, via Pro Football Talk. 'So, unfortunately, going to put him down for a little bit here.' The Browns are expected to get a look at Dillon Gabriel this weekend. They selected the Oregon quarterback in the third round of this year's draft. If Gabriel struggles on Saturday, that could open the door for Sanders to move up the depth chart. Yankees' Brian Cashman Reiterates Aaron Boone Message Amid Second-Half Slump
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It's been a rough patch for the New York Yankees, but there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel. Losers of seven of their first nine games in August, the Yankees have righted the ship to win three of their last four. Granted, the schedule has now flipped to playing teams that sold at the trade deadline, rather than bought, but you've got to play the schedule in front of you. August has been a rough month for the Yankees in terms of public perception, and manager Aaron Boone has taken a beating. Those who think Boone's even-keel attitude hurts the club were having a field day during the losing streak. (Photo by)However, Boone still has one important backer, and that's his general manager, Brian Cashman. Before the Yankees played on Friday night, Cashman defended the way Boone has handled the ups and downs of the season, even praising him for not losing his cool in front of a microphone. "The best he can," Cashman said Friday, per Greg Joyce of the New York Post. "I don't know how any manager, let alone a manager in a big market like New York — I've told him many times how he does the pre- and postgame (press conferences) and navigates that on a daily basis, that's not easy. "Takes a talent in its own right to try to walk through that without losing your cool or getting emotional or what have you. He's stayed level-headed and even-keeled. He knows how tough this sport is." While some Yankees fans get upset when Boone defends players or fails to express anger or regret after losses, Cashman views his steady nature as a positive. "I know I couldn't do that," Cashman said, per Joyce. "I definitely would probably be creating more regretful comments along the way because I would either be from lack of sleep or getting provoked, it wouldn't take much. "I think it takes a certain character and abilities to try to manage a group of 26 guys, especially in a big market through difficult times." Entering play on Saturday, the Yankees held a 1 1/2-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians for the final American League wild card spot. They'll look to win their second-straight series, sending ace Max Fried to the mound against the St. Louis Cardinals. More MLB: Astros' Josh Hader Gets Bleak Injury Recovery Timeline As October Looms
