India among key investment hubs for land and development sites; retains spot among top 10 global markets: Report

India has established itself as a prime destination for international capital investment in land and development sites, as revealed in a recent Colliers report.
During the 12-month period ending Q1 2025, India secured $735 million in cross-border capital investments, positioning it at seventh place amongst global markets in this category, according to the report quoted by ANI.
The investment comprised $332 million from international sources, with regional capital flows making up the balance.
Although India's portion of total cross-border investments reached 1.5 per cent, showing a slight decline, it surpassed its five-year average of 1.2 per cent.
India maintains its position as a significant investment destination, particularly within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) context. The APAC region's dominance is evident, with seven countries from the region featuring in the top ten list for cross-border land and development site investments, demonstrating the region's appeal to international investors.
The analysis revealed that APAC captured 80 per cent of all cross-border activity, with China's contribution of $38.1 billion representing 79.7 per cent of the global total.
While China leads the market, countries including Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia have shown increased investment activity.
India's continued presence in the top ten demonstrates sustained investor faith in its future growth prospects and opportunities within its land and development sectors.

Air India begins DGCA-mandated safety checks on Boeing 787 fleet
New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Air India on Saturday said it is in the process of completing the one-time safety checks on its Boeing 787 fleet, following a directive issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Air India Spokesperson in a statement on X said, 'Air India has completed such checks on nine of the Boeing 787 aircraft and are on track to complete this process for the remaining 24 aircraft within the timeline provided by the regulator'. The checks are being carried out on the Boeing 787 fleet as they return to India, before being cleared for their next operations. The company has also cautioned that the process may lead to longer turnaround times and potential delays, particularly on long-haul routes to airports that have strict operating curfews. To minimise inconvenience, customers will be notified of any delays and are advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport, the airline Spokesperson said. The airline has also asked the flyers to check status of their flights at before heading to the airport. Passengers impacted by delays or cancellations are being offered either complimentary rescheduling or full refunds upon request, the Spokesperson added. Notably, the DGCA yesterday issued a directive mandating urgent additional maintenance checks for Air India's B787-8/9 fleet equipped with Genx engines. The directions were issued in the wake of the recent accident involving an Air India Boeing B787-800 aircraft operating flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick on June 12.

Despite May losses, bumper summer onion production this year in Nashik
Nashik: The summer onion production in Nashik district has shown a significant increase of 63% during the 2024-25 (Dec-April) season in comparison to the previous year. The state agriculture department reports that Nashik district's summer onion yield reached approximately 59 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, while the previous season (Dec-April of 2023-24) recorded 36 lakh tonnes. State agriculture department officials reported an increase in summer onion cultivation area from 1.4 lakh hectares in 2023-24 to 2.5 lakh hectares in 2024-25, with an average yield of 23.4 tonnes per hectare. Despite approximately 5% damage from May rainfall, the season produced abundant crops, ensuring an adequate supply until the next harvest in Oct. Unlike kharif and late kharif onions harvested between Oct and Feb, which deteriorate within a month, summer onions harvested in March-April maintain quality for six to seven months. This extended storage capability allows farmers to hold their produce and sell at APMCs when prices are favourable or when they require funds. The market relies on stored summer onions from May until mid-Oct, when fresh kharif crops arrive. Current wholesale price at the Lasalgaon APMC stands at Rs 1,600 per quintal, compared to Rs 1,500 per quintal during the same period last year. Nashik: The Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust in Shirdi has partially lifted its earlier restriction, now permitting devotees to offer flowers and garlands at the temple while maintaining restrictions on other items such as shawls and prasad. Sansthan CEO Gorakshanath Gadilkar said, "The committee has decided to allow flowers and garlands inside for offering. The temporary ban on various offerings was implemented on May 11 following threats of attack on the temple." The administration has set up new guidelines requiring devotees to present receipts from florists when bringing flowers or garlands into the temple. "Security personnel will verify these receipts. This will make it clear what items came from which florists, and at the same time, the receipts will also ensure the pilgrims are not duped," Gadilkar said.
