Newsboy's horseracing tips for Tuesday's three meetings, including Musselburgh Nap

Daily Mirror21-07-2025
Newsboy fancies his nap, Oasis Diamond, to prove a real gem at Musselburgh and also expects Calafiori can score at Wolverhampton and complete his Daily Double
OASIS DIAMOND (2.30, Nap) looks set to shine in the Celebrating The Musselburgh Festival 2025 Nursery over five furlongs on Tuesday afternoon. The daughter of Oasis Dream, trained by Michael and David Easterby, was considered good enough to race in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

And although down the field, finishing 10 and a half lengths behind the winner Havana Hurricane, she was then well backed last time out in a Class 6 Nursery at Catterick. Always prominent, she disputed the lead from a furlong out and ran on well to hold off Gillali Lass to score by a head. Back in the same class again today, the two-year-old is fancied to follow up.

On the All-Weather at Wolverhampton, CALAFIORI (7.00, nb) can make amends for an unlucky second last time by taking the HighBet Acca Odds Boost Nursery under Billy Loughnane. The George Boughey-trained gelding was beaten a short-head by Dinamo at Thirsk last week after getting caught in a pocket and hampering rivals.
Although he ran on strongly once in the open, the line came just too soon for him and he had to settle for second.
With a clearer run today, the son of Ardad is expected to gain compensation.

Newsboy goes to Sandown to find his Nap and Next Best and is particularly keen on a Michael and David Easterby-trained runner at the Surrey track The consistent work ethic of DILIGENT RESDEV (7.45, NAP) can be rewarded with victory at Sandown tonight. ‌ Michael and David Easterby's four-year-old has been a reliable performer all season and, though he has yet to win this year, he finished fifth in the Victoria Cup at Ascot and an excellent third in a hot York handicap last time. The selection won the Bronze Cup over 6f at Ayr last September but his best recent form has been over today's 7f trip and if he can last home up Sandown's stiff finish he could prove hard to beat. ‌ In the evening's previous race DANGERMAN (7.15, NB) should be all the rage now connections have settled on his preferred distance. ‌ The Godolphin-owned gelding had been contesting races over 1m4f but on his return to 1m2f, and in first-time blinkers, he bolted in by three lengths over today's course and distance. Up only 4lb for the win over Bulletin who finished third at Goodwood last week, John and Thady Gosden retain the headgear and keep him to what he knows best. He is a confident pick under Robert Havlin. 'It's in the very air you breathe in Newcastle'

This week, we are asking you to share your stories and photos for why you fell in love with is a selection of your submissions: Ian: It is all about the atmosphere and the occasion. My earliest memories of watching Newcastle were in the late 1960s when I remember being put at the front of the Gallowgate End behind the goal with Newcastle fans mingling with Liverpool fans with strange accents. Peanuts for a tenner, a bag thrown way into the terraces and sixpences being thrown back onto the ash track for the peanut seller. Songs echoed around the ground from the Leazes End about the Mighty Wyn while black and white scarves filled the stands. The smell of hops from brewery, Bovril and pies wafting through the air.
