Aamir Khan Calls Multiplexes ‘Elite' Amid Sitaare Zameen Par YouTube Release: ‘You Can't Afford It'

News184 days ago
Aamir Khan says multiplexes are now too 'elite' for many and plans affordable film releases like Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube for as low as Rs 25.
Aamir Khan has sparked a conversation around cinema affordability ahead of the YouTube release of his much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par. In a recent interview with ANI, the actor-producer expressed concern over the rising cost of moviegoing and shared his vision to make films more accessible to the masses through his official YouTube channel.
Comparing modern multiplexes to luxury hotels, Aamir said, 'Multiplexes started in 2005-06. The investment in them was very high, so the prices of tickets and eatables also increased. Just like when you go to a five-star hotel, the same things that you'd get elsewhere for a much lower price cost a lot more there because it offers many more facilities and a five-star environment." He added, 'Similarly, multiplexes have now become quite elite. Unless you have a certain level of economic earnings, you simply can't afford to go there."
To combat this growing exclusivity, Aamir Khan is taking matters into his own hands with his digital platform, Aamir Khan Talkies. Through a pay-per-view model, he hopes to democratize cinema by allowing creators to offer content at much lower prices. 'The model I have created solves this problem. The people who cannot afford that posh environment, I am trying to reach them. With this, everyone can enjoy cinema," he explained.
The upcoming release of Sitaare Zameen Par on his YouTube channel marks the beginning of this venture. Viewers will be able to watch films for as low as Rs 25 or Rs 50, with the pricing model set by the creators themselves. Aamir emphasized that this approach is not limited to feature films alone; web series and short-form content will also be part of the platform's offerings.
The move has been widely praised by fans for its inclusivity and the way it empowers filmmakers while making quality cinema affordable for all. Sitaare Zameen Par will premiere on August 1, with more titles from Aamir's past and future productions to follow.

Kishore Kumar AI Version Of Saiyaara Takes Internet by Storm; Fans Call It More Soulful Than Original

Last Updated: Kishore Kumar's AI-generated version of Saiyaara goes viral online. Fans call it nostalgic, soulful—some even say it's better than the original. The chart-topping title track of Saiyaara has already cemented its place as a musical phenomenon. But now, a fan-made AI-generated version featuring the legendary voice of Kishore Kumar has added a nostalgic twist to the viral wave. Set against visuals of Rimjhim Gire Sawan, the AI cover has taken social media by storm, sparking debate over creativity, ethics, and authenticity in the age of artificial intelligence. The edit juxtaposes Kishore Kumar's recreated vocals with the classic rainy Mumbai visuals of Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee from the 1970s hit—creating a surreal time-travel moment for music lovers. Somebody made AI based Kishore Kumar version of Saiyaara title songGood effort with retro style rhythm arrangement.. sounds better than original.. yet not even 10% of the power, energy, vibrancy, voice, singing of what KK cud have achieved.. — Keh Ke Peheno (@coolfunnytshirt) August 2, 2025 Online, the video has stirred both admiration and skepticism. 'This is so soothing, at first I thought the Saiyaara song was rewritten," commented one user on X. Another gushed, 'The edit is really good, even better than the original." A third added bluntly, 'India literally lost real creators in music industry." But not everyone was sold. While many applauded the technical finesse, die-hard Kishore Kumar fans pushed back, calling the AI voice a pale imitation of the original. 'Only true Kishore fans will not go 'wow' on this video effort. The original song + the video is a masterpiece. None can replace them even if may seem perfect fit for some noobs," one post read. Another critic added, 'Good effort with retro-style rhythm arrangement… sounds better than original… yet not even 10% of the power, energy, vibrancy, voice, singing of what KK could have achieved." This online buzz comes on the heels of Saiyaara's historic global run. The Faheem Abdullah-sung ballad recently became the first Hindi song to top Spotify's Global Viral 50 chart, and also entered Spotify's Top 10 worldwide—a rare feat for a Bollywood track. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara stars newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The film has crossed ₹250 crore at the box office, and the song—composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami—has played a pivotal role in its cultural dominance. view comments First Published: August 03, 2025, 19:25 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Stephen A. Smith claps back at Michelle Obama's ‘offensive' ESPN remarks, gives her sharp lesson on reality TV, voting

Stephen A. Smith has responded to Michelle Obama's harsh criticism of ESPN this week, slamming the former First Lady for making 'offensive' remarks about voting for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential elections. Stephen A. Smith told Michelle Obama that 'you will never hear me utter a negative word about you.' (REUTERS) Smith's statement comes as Obama chastised ESPN and its on-screen personalities, including First Take star Smith, on the most recent episode of her 'IMO' podcast. The former First Lady compared the network to reality TV show 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta'. 'It's the same drama, and they're yelling at each other, and they don't get along, you know? I mean, Stephen A. Smith, he's just like every other talk show host,' she stated, as per Daily Mail. Stephen A. Smith says he is 'still a bit salty' at Michelle Obama Later, Smith hit back at Obama on the new episode of his YouTube show. After encouraging Obama to invite guests with 'dissenting' viewpoints to the IMO podcast, he chastised Obama's remarks about Trump and the Republican party before the presidential election. 'Michelle Obama, I wanna take this opportunity to remind you that while you are revered by me personally, and I truly, truly mean that with the greatest sincerity, I'm still a bit salty at you,' Smith stated. He reminded her that she stated that voting for Trump means vote against her and fellow women during her campaign. 'I want to say for the record - I took major offense to that.' Also Read: Trump blasts Charlamagne tha God as 'low IQ individual' over Epstein files remarks: 'He has no idea what words…' Targetting Obama, he said that it was the only thing that he did not like or appreciate, adding that there are so many factors that influence where your vote will go. 'For some people, it's all about the economy. For others, it's all about national security. For some people, it is immigration. For some people, it's safety in the streets of America. Long before they think about pro-choice or pro-life,' he continued. After hearing the analogy to the Real Housewives, Smith went on to call Obama 'sensational'. 'So this doesn't have anything to do with what you were talking about, how sports and reality TV mirror one another, even though we would beg to differ,' the ESPN anchor said. 'You are so wrong': Smith to Michelle Obama He mentioned reality TV frequently uses fictitious settings and scenarios in order to elicit reactions and other things. 'We're at sports, that's live entertainment, and you're actually competing against one another is big time. No, reality TV is not like that. You're so wrong about that, about that assertion, but that's neither here nor there.' In his concluding remarks, he gave a message to Obama, saying that 'you will never hear me utter a negative word about you.' He, however, added that he still remains 'pretty salty about what you said about us.'
