LSU football has its sights set on a national title run in 2025. In year four under Brian Kelly, LSU signed the No. 1 transfer portal class in the country and returns quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, a Heisman contender. The Tigers are all in on 2025.
Part of being good enough to compete for a national title is being good enough to win an SEC title. With the College Football Playoff, winning the SEC isn't necessary, but it's a signal that a team has what it takes.
Kelly led LSU to an SEC title appearance in his first year in Baton Rouge, but the Tigers fell short vs. Georgia. LSU's last SEC championship came in 2019, when LSU beat Georgia on its way to going 15-0 and winning a national title.
According to Kelly and Nussmeier, this is the most talented roster LSU has had in Kelly's time at LSU. The Tigers have a chance to make a run.
Here are the latest BetMGM odds to win the 2025 SEC Football Championship.

Trevor Story, with legs ‘kind of fresh,' wants to steal more bases than ever

Story has been pushing it on the basepaths lately, and to great success. After swiping his 14th bag in the second inning, a small piece of his 4-for-5, four-RBI, three-run day, he is one shy of Jarren Duran and David Hamilton for the team lead. Advertisement With the season a tick past half over, the 32-year-old Story is on pace for 25 steals. That would be his most since 2018, when he totaled a career-best 27. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Already, Story has his most steals since 2021, and he is yet to be caught. 'The most important thing is being successful when I do it,' he said. 'Because I'm not just trying to be a merchant out there and take unnecessary chances. It's important to have a good percentage there.' Trevor Story's home run on Friday was his 13th, just three shy of his best in a season with the Red Sox. Greg Fiume/Getty Story also hit his 13th homer in the eighth inning. With continued good health, he has a strong shot at his fourth 20/20 season. 'Baseball is fun, playing like that,' Story said. 'I know that that's what I've shown over my career. I'm happy to be doing it on a more consistent basis right now.' Advertisement Kelly returns, sort of The Red Sox made an unusual move Friday when they put Zack Kelly on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Monday) with a right oblique strain. Kelly exited with a tight oblique last Sunday and got an MRI on Monday. After it apparently showed nothing significant, the team optioned him to Triple A Worcester, clearing a spot for Jordan Hicks . But Kelly hadn't pitched since. Because he sustained the injury while in the majors, the demotion to the minors was rescinded. While on the IL, he will continue to earn big league salary and service time. Kelly has a 5.56 ERA in 17 appearances this year. Yoshida's first impression A first-hand report on Masataka Yoshida's recent practice at first base? 'Pretty smooth,' said Iggy Suarez , Triple A Worcester's bench/infield coach. 'It's pretty cool to see that. It's not in-game reps, but seeing the footwork, catching it clean, smooth throws to first base and second base, it's been pretty good. He knows it's a lot, but he can do it. I think so. 'He said it himself: In-game could be different. But … not being a normal first baseman, that's hard to do.' The outfielder, who joined Double A Portland to continue his rehab assignment Friday, has been working out at first so that he can be an emergency option upon returning to the majors, manager Alex Cora said. 'There's no panic to him, which is good,' Suarez said. 'So who knows? We'll keep getting him out there, get some reps, and whenever they tell us to get him out there, we will. But again, my impression on the first two days, I'm impressed. Pretty good. Not that I expected the worst, but I feel like he can handle himself.' Advertisement Bregman watch continues Might the Red Sox have Alex Bregman (right quad strain) back for their final pre-All-Star break homestand, which begins Monday? 'I hope so,' Cora said … Justin Wilson pitched for the first time since June 24, getting the final out of the eighth following Lucas Giolito . Wilson had been 'a little banged up,' said Cora, who also was pleased to use Garrett Whitlock , who handled the ninth. Whitlock had appeared in one game the previous 11 days … Washington's Josh Bell was credited with a single when his ground ball, hit pretty much right at Hamilton, skipped past the second baseman and into right field. The ball came off Bell's bat at 106 miles per hour … While some of the Sox toured the White House and met President Trump on Thursday, others visited the National Zoo, part of the team's family-trip activities. The best part? 'Just being around the kids,' Cora said. Alex Speier of the Globe staff contributed to this report . Tim Healey can be reached at

2026 WR chooses Alabama Crimson Tide over Penn State, Notre Dame

The post 2026 WR chooses Alabama Crimson Tide over Penn State, Notre Dame appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide landed a talented player to add to their 2026 recruiting class, getting the pledge of wide receiver Brian Williams Jr. Advertisement Williams announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Tuesday, per On3 insider Hayes Fawcett. He chose the SEC powerhouse over the likes of Penn State, Florida and Notre Dame. The young receiver stands out as a solid prospect from the Sunshine State. He boasts a three-star ranking with an 86 score on 247Sports. He is the 106th-best player in the state of Florida and the 162nd-best wide receiver in the 2026 class. 'Traits-heavy outside wide receiver with the length and athleticism to bake into a difference-maker, but one where the on-field production has yet to really materialize. Looks the part with a lanky frame that stretches close to 6-foot-4 and pairs the outstanding size with green speed and explosion scores,' 247Sports' scouting director Andrew Ivins said. 'Displays good initial burst off the line and will sink his hips to snap in and out of his breaks. Not the most physical player at this stage, but finds ways to beat man coverage with his quick feet and sharp releases.' Advertisement What's next for Alabama after landing Brian Williams Jr. Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images It's a solid pickup for Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide to get. With Brian Williams Jr. arriving in 2026, the team's receiving corps looks to boast a lot of potential. DeBoer is preparing for his second year as the Crimson Tide's head coach. He navigated the program through the start of a new era after Nick Saban retired from coaching college football. His ability to lead teams to remarkable success made him a strong fit for the job as Saban's successor. His first campaign with Alabama was a strong success. He led the Crimson Tide to a 9-4 record, a promising start to his time with the program. However, he ended the season with a loss to the Michigan Wolverines in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl. Georgia football lands pivotal 4-star tight end commitment

The post Georgia football lands pivotal 4-star tight end commitment appeared first on ClutchPoints. As the summer months pass by and fall draws closer, the Georgia football program's focus on 2025 solidifies. Head coach Kirby Smart and his roster are looking to make another run at not only the SEC Championship, but a spot in the College Football Playoff again. Quarterback Gunnar Stockton is entering his first season as the top signal caller. If things go well and he returns to Athens in 2026, then he will have a new weapon to target. According to on3's Hayes Fawcett on X (formerly Twitter), the Georgia football team has gained a commitment from four-star tight end Brayden Fogle. 'BREAKING: Four-Star TE Brayden Fogle has Committed to Georgia, he tells me for @rivals,' posted Fawcett on the social media platform. 'The 6'4 235 TE from Mansfield, OH chose the Bulldogs over LSU and Penn State. 'All Glory to God!! Go Dawgs!'' Advertisement The Georgia football program has developed its fair share of tight ends throughout team history. Benjamin Watson was a former first-rounder who had a long NFL career. Orson Charles starred when Bulldogs legend Aaron Murray played quarterback at the school. Of course, Fogle would also be following in the footsteps of Brock Bowers, who could be the best player to ever play the position for the Georgia football program. Could Fogle reach those heights with Stockton and his successors throwing him the football? Could Brayden Fogle follow in Georgia football legend Brock Bowers' steps? Mandatory Credit: © Jake Furr/News Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Coming off another SEC Championship win and College Football Playoff appearance, Smart and the Bulldogs will almost certainly want to go further in not only 2025, but beyond as well. If Stockton has a great junior season, he could leave early. But if he decides to come back in 2026 for another run, then Fogle will be waiting for him. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has plenty of options at the position moving forward, yet Fogle could be a difference maker early on. Advertisement That's something that Bowers was able to do as well. He starred for the Georgia football team as almost as soon as he arrived in Athens. Smart's staff knew how to utilize him, particularly under former offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Can Bobo get the same type of production out of Fogle in 2026? That is certainly something that all parties hope will happen.
