Saudi Gazette report
ORLANDO — Al Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi paid glowing tribute to his players following their courageous run to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup, highlighting their fighting spirit and quality performances against world-class opposition.
The Roshn Saudi League champions capped off a historic fortnight in the United States with performances that captured international attention — drawing 1-1 with Real Madrid in the group stage and stunning English powerhouse Manchester City 4-3 after extra time in the Round of 16.
Al Hilal ultimately bowed out in the quarter-finals after a hard-fought 2-1 defeat to Brazil's Fluminense on Friday, but not without winning admiration for their grit and attacking flair.
'I congratulate my players on their heroic performance, both in tonight's match and in the tournament in general,' said Inzaghi, who only took charge of the club two weeks before the tournament began.
'They poured their hearts out on the pitch tonight. And, of course, we are sorry, but we need to be proud."The Italian tactician, formerly of Inter Milan, added: 'I am proud to coach Al Hilal and proud of all the players in the team. I congratulated them all, without exception, for the wonderful level they presented in the Club World Cup.'Al Hilal's campaign was marked by bold football and individual brilliance, most notably in their dramatic extra-time win over Pep Guardiola's City, a result widely hailed as one of the greatest in Saudi club football history.Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who scored in that victory, also praised the squad's resolve in the face of adversity.'Despite the significant absences like Mitrovic, Salem Al Dawsari, and Hassan Al Tambakti, we performed excellently and proved that Saudi football is advancing and competing globally,' he said. 'We are happy with what we presented, and we hold our heads high.'Koulibaly added: 'We've shown that we have a league capable of competing with the world's elite.'Al Hilal now return to domestic action with confidence sky-high, having proven their mettle on the global stage and under a new coach who has quickly inspired belief.

Jannik Sinner beats Carlos Alcaraz to win his maiden Wimbledon title

WIMBLEDON — Jannik Sinner defeated two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday to win his first Wimbledon championship and reverse the result of their epic French Open final five weeks ago. The No. 1-ranked Sinner earned his fourth Grand Slam title overall, moving him one away from No. 2 Alcaraz's total as the two young rivals separate themselves from the rest of the pack in men's tennis. This victory also allowed Sinner, a 23-year-old Italian, to put an end to several streaks for Alcaraz, a 22-year-old Spaniard. After the sport's new 'Big Two' played out one of the greatest matches of all time in the final of Roland Garros five weeks ago, Sunday's rematch did not disappoint — there was some terrific tennis on display throughout. Sinner looked to have taken control in the first set when he broke his opponent's serve in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead, only for Alcaraz to break back twice — the second time thanks in part to a suddenly nervous looking Sinner, who double-faulted to give the Spaniard an advantage, which he wasted no time in taking. With the memory of that French Open final — which Sinner somehow lost despite going two sets up and having three championship points — still fresh on everyone's minds, it would have been easy for the Italian to wonder whether he had once again passed up an opportunity for a grand slam title. But the world No. 1 steeled himself and played a magnificent second set, breaking Alcaraz in the first game and holding from then onward. In particular, his final game of the set was so impressive, hitting two stunning forehands to tie the match. Indeed, the Italian's forehand shot quality in the second set was 9.4, compared with the draw average of 7.3. After a short lull in the third set, with both players holding relatively comfortably, Sinner struck another decisive blow to go 5-4 up, leaving Alcaraz furious after he slipped on the crucial break point. The Italian had the momentum now and kept at it, producing two brilliant winners in the third game of the fourth set to break Alcaraz again. The Spaniard had one last chance to get back into the match when he found himself up 15-40 in one game, but could not convert either break point, leaving Sinner to wrap up the win on his next service game. The world No. 1 now adds a Wimbledon title to the two he has won at the Australian Open and the one he claimed at the US Open. Despite only having won five of his 13 matches against Alcaraz, he is now 2-0 against the Spaniard at Wimbledon. Alcaraz, having lost a grand slam final for the first time in his six appearances, missed out on the chance to join Björn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only men in the Open Era to win three Wimbledon titles in a row. — Agencies

'They're one of the hottest teams in the world right now, but this is a final. Anything can happen. I've seen favourites lose finals before. We'll prepare properly—and we're going to win,' he told FIFA's website. 17:30 Possible lineups: Chelsea: Sanchez; Gusto, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Nkunku; Pedro PSG: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Beraldo, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Kvaratskhelia, Dembele, Doue 16:30 Chelsea received a boost ahead of the final as Moises Caicedo returned from an ankle injury, but Enzo Maresca faces fitness concerns, with Dario Essugo, Romeo Livia, and Benoit Badiashile remain sidelined with muscular issues. PSG, meanwhile, head into the clash with a nearly full-strength squad, though they'll be missing the suspended defensive pair of Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez. 15:30 Meanwhile, UEFA Conference League champions Chelsea carved their path to the final, dispatching Portuguese giants Benfica in the last 16 before overcoming Brazilian powerhouses Palmeiras and Fluminense in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. 14:30 PSG's path to the final has been a masterclass in dominance, netting four goals against both Atletico Madrid and Inter Miami, then they dispatched Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals. Their 4-0 semi-final demolition of Kylian Mbappe's Real Madrid, a scoreline that flattered their opponents, solidified their unstoppable momentum. 13:30 US president Donald Trump is attending the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in his latest use of the beautiful game as a soft power political weapon, AFP reported. 12:30 Chelsea will face a monumental task in Sunday's Club World Cup final as they attempt to halt an unstoppable Paris Saint-Germain from clinching the inaugural FIFA expanded Club World Cup, fresh off their UEFA Champions League triumph. Chelsea defeat PSG 3-0 to win first expanded Club World Cup

NEW JERSEY — Cole Palmer delivered a masterclass performance on Sunday night, scoring twice and assisting another as Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain to win the final of the first expanded FIFA Club World Cup. Palmer struck two nearly identical left-footed goals from inside the box in the 22nd and 30th minutes, before setting up João Pedro with a brilliant through pass that the Brazilian converted with a chip over Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 43rd. Chelsea, who dominated the first half at MetLife Stadium, sealed their first global title since 2021. The 23-year-old Palmer, who joined from Manchester City in 2023, capped off a stellar season with 18 goals. It was PSG's first loss in the tournament, as the French champions struggled to match Chelsea's pace and clinical finishing on the night. — Agencies
