Time of India2 days ago
Vijayawada: Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) and Rajya Sabha MP Sana Satish Babu were elected as the new president and secretary of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA).
They will lead the apex body for the 2025–2028 term.
The ACA general body meeting took place at the Vijayawada Club in Tadepalli on Saturday, where members unanimously elected a new committee. Along with Sivanath and Satish Babu, Dandamudi Srinivas was chosen as treasurer, B Vijay Kumar as joint secretary and Dandu Gaur Vishnu Tej as councillor. The elections proceeded smoothly without any competition.
Speaking to the media after his election, Sivanath said the new committee would focus on strengthening cricket infrastructure and improving player support.
"We will work to further enhance the prestige of ACA in the next three years. Players in the state will be provided better facilities, including professional coaches and support staff to prepare them for platforms like the IPL," he said. He added that the Andhra Premier League in Vizag would be promoted further and assured that decisions would be taken transparently, ensuring no inconvenience to ACA members.
Secretary Sana Satish Babu echoed similar views, thanking the members for unanimously electing the new body.

"ACA has taken many revolutionary decisions in the last 11 months, and in the next three years, we will make bold decisions on funding, sending players to competitions, appointing coaches, and developing stadiums," he said.
He also clarified that the post of vice-president remains vacant after the lone nomination of Bandara Narasimha Rao was rejected due to incorrect documentation. Elections for the post will be conducted in Sept.
Former ACA joint secretary and MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju also attended the meeting, which concluded with a pledge to take Andhra cricket to greater heights.

Harbhajan Bats For Gill's Selection In Asia Cup Squad, Says 'Don't Underestimate Him In T20Is'

Last Updated: The BCCI selectors are set to announce India's Asia Cup 2025 squad on Tuesday (August 19). Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh wants BCCI selectors to include Shubman Gill in India's Asia Cup 2025 squad, which reportedly is set to be announced by the board on Tuesday (August 19). According to Harbhajan, Gill, despite his lower strike rate in comparison to the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson, is a very talented batter, and he can score runs in any format. Gill, who is the captain of India's Test team, last played a T20I match in Pallekele on July 30, 2024, against Sri Lanka. He overall has 578 runs to his name in 21 T20Is, and his strike rate is 139.27. 'In the T20 format, it's important to understand that it's not just about big hitting. If Shubman decides to attack, he can match anyone, because he is a very solid player with strong basics. A batter with such a strong foundation can score runs in any format," Harbhajan was quoted as saying by the Times of India. 'If you look at the IPL, Shubman has scored runs every season. He has worn the Orange Cap—and that doesn't happen by chance. And it's not like he bats only at a strike rate of 120 or 130. He can also bat at a strike rate of 160," he added. According to Harbhajan, who was a member of India's 2007 T20 World Cup-winning team, Gill is a very talented batter who can adapt to any format, and one should not underestimate him. 'Yes, we do have players like Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma, but you cannot undermine or underestimate Shubman Gill. He is a very talented batter who can adapt to any format. He is an all-format player. In my opinion, he can play T20s and even dominate the format. We as fans are used to seeing fours and sixes every ball, but you also need batters who can play long innings and rescue the team when required," Harbhajan said. In his Asia Cup 2025 squad, Samson included Gill along with Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer, but surprisingly there was no place for Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh. 'I think the squad should be Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav – the captain, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag for the middle order, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant," he said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘This is the freedom we need to fight for': Adani warns India's new age war is for tech and self-reliance

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, told students and faculty at IIT Kharagpur that the modern strategic challenge goes far beyond borders. 'The battlefield is not just about protecting our nation's border. It is about securing our technology leadership…so we lead and not just participate as low-cost players in the global race,' he said. Independence Day 2025 Modi signals new push for tech independence with local chips Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave India its own currency Adani highlighted India's vulnerabilities in critical sectors. '90% of our semiconductors are imported. One disruption or sanction can freeze our digital economy,' he warned. On energy security, he noted, 'In case of energy vulnerability, we import 85% of our oil. A single geopolitical incident can restrict our growth.' He also stressed the strategic importance of data, saying, 'When our data crosses India's borders, every bit of this data becomes raw material for foreign algorithms.' He framed self-reliance, or atma nirbharta , as essential for India's independence in the digital age. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo Reflecting on the scale of current transformation, Adani said, 'The age of transformations now unfolding before us is unlike anything I have seen…In a world of robotics and AI, cost advantages will vanish overnight, and we can quickly lose our ability to compete.' He called this era India's 'second freedom struggle,' warning that companies and institutions that fail to adapt at the speed and scale of change may disappear, while tomorrow's disruptors could dominate globally. Are defence and aerospace stocks set to soar? Matt Orton's view on global market tailwinds

Matt Orton, Raymond James Investment, says despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, markets are showing cautious optimism, supported by positive earnings and India's GST reforms . Aerospace and defence sectors remain strong performers, with long-term investment potential driven by increased global security spending. Investors can benefit from tailwinds across select sectors despite unresolved tensions. There is a lot happening on the global front. How do you read the current sentiments coming from global markets? Matt Orton: Yes, there is quite a lot going on for investors. From the economic data over the past week, the Trump-Putin summit, and the ongoing discussions, it seems we are moving closer to more clarity in the market, which markets always favor. A narrowing of potential outcomes helps investors factor in what the future might look like. I am optimistic that this clarity should be marginally positive for markets, which continue to move higher. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They were so beautiful before; look at them now; number 10 will shock you Boite A Scoop Undo India has also seen positive developments, such as the double Diwali and GST changes. US macroeconomic data did not send any negative signals, and the earnings season has been wrapping up on a strong note. These factors provide good tailwinds, which could strengthen further if geopolitical risks are resolved positively. On the Trump-Putin meeting, there seems to be no solid outcome yet. How do you see today's talks with Zelenskyy affecting the US-Russia tariff scenario and India? Matt Orton: Any clarity on these discussions will be very helpful. The inclusion of European leaders and Zelenskyy at the White House indicates a willingness to reach a mutually agreeable resolution, even if not everyone is completely satisfied. Regardless of the outcome, aerospace and defence have been strong outperformers, particularly in Europe and the US, and these tailwinds are likely to continue. Even without a full peace agreement, nations will need to invest more in security, which supports long-term spending in defence and sends a signal globally about the need for robust security measures.
