China's first police Corgi has 400,000 followers and a nose for trouble
Fu Zai has won top workplace reviews as an unusual breed of sniffer dog. But his lack of selfcontrol cost him his annual bonus/ NYT (Screengrab)
With a keen sense of smell and legs that seem too short for his body,
Fu Zai
has won a huge social media audience that has followed him doing official duties since he started as a sniffer dog last fall. He was a puppy when a trainer spotted him at a park and recruited him to
Weifang Public Security Bureau
in Shandong.
A love of earning treats as rewards has earned Fu Zai strong performance reviews. But it's also proved a challenge, as his trainer has found that keeping him in line is not easy.
Fu Zai was caught on camera recently grabbing a bite of a sausage in a child's hand during patrol. Officers have since tried to train him to better resist food, but many on social media offered support — and free sausages — for Fu Zai the next time he patrolled the streets.
In another video, some of the corgi's toys and snacks — part of a Lunar New Year 'bonus'— were confiscated for sleeping on the job and using his bowl as a urinal.
Experts said such behaviour is normal for corgis. 'That's why they're challenging, too, because they get distracted pretty easily,' said Leonardo Palacio, owner of a training school in Connecticut.
Fu Zai is an unusual choice for police work. Traditionally, corgis were bred to work on farms, herding cattle by biting their ankles.

In recent times, they have become popular choices for pets, most famously associated with Queen Elizabeth II. But some have retained the propensity to nip. That trait might dissuade trainers when assessing the suitability of a dog for disciplined forces, said a trainer at Hong Kong Canine.
Fu Zai's trainer said he had initially ruled out a corgi as a police dog because of the breed's reputation. Meeting Fu Zai changed his mind.
He later invited Fu Zai to train at the police base. Over the next few months, the corgi excelled in detecting explosives. Moreover, he could fit under tight spaces some other dogs couldn't reach.
Fu Zai became a full-fledged member of Weifang police in Oct. He has since been beamed around the internet as a friendly face for the force, making frequent appearances on its official account on Douyin, China's version of TikTok. A separate account, named 'Fu Zai and his comrades,' has more than 400,000 followers. But the drive for food that helped him land the job also gotten him into some of his troubles. Whether as temptation he can't resist or a treat used in training, there will probably be more sausage in Fu Zai's future.

Mumbai man loses Rs 1cr in fake 3BHK deal
Mumbai: The police arrested a 36-year-old man from Badlapur for allegedly luring a 46-year-old western suburbs resident into buying a 3BHK flat in Dadar and cheating him of Rs 1.07 crore. The deal for the flat was finalised through emails and phone calls only. In 215 transactions, the complainant sent money to the accused to buy the flat without even seeing the flat, site, or the seller. Six years later, he learned he was taken for a ride. A west region cyber crime police station team, led by senior inspector Suvarna Shinde and assistant inspector Dr Nitin Gacche, is probing the case. The crime occurred between Nov 2018 and Nov 2024. The complainant wanted to buy a house in Mumbai and saw an advertisement on Facebook about cheap flats available in Andheri, Bandra, Borivli, Dadar, etc. He contacted the email ID given in the advertisement and began communicating. The accused sent him a form and asked him to fill in his details for booking the flat. Once the complainant, who works in a private company, submitted the form, he received an email saying his file was 'approved' and one Vishal Panchal was appointed as his relationship manager. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Later, he got a call from one Virendra Mehta, who claimed to be the director of the project, 'Aap ka Apna Ghar,' and told the complainant that his flat had been allotted. Panchal asked the complainant to pay Rs 50,000 for registration. The complainant paid the money. Later, Panchal contacted him through different mobile numbers and email IDs and asked him to pay money for Mhada approval, BMC NOC, Mantralaya clearance, etc. The complainant got a call from a person who said he was a BMC ward officer, Deepak, and demanded Rs 10 lakh to approve his file. The amount was brought down to Rs five lakh, which the complainant sent to an account given by the accused. When Panchal again demanded Rs five lakh, the complainant didn't have money and asked a friend to give him a loan. The friend told him he was duped, and an FIR was registered on June 3. Gacche and staff Sangram Jadhav, Mayur Ingale, and Suresh Lokre arrested the accused, Saiyyam Devmani Pandey. "It was Pandey who posed as Deepak, Panchal, and Mehta," said a police source. Police said there were around 500 to 600 email exchanges between the accused and complainant about the flat. Pandey has an Instagram page and poses as an online astrologer over it. He told police he splurged money on flight tickets for Meghalaya, Shillong, Chandigarh, Goa, etc., and stayed in hotels. Pandey, who studied up to class X, is the son of a doctor.

Pilgrims hire ambulances, beacons flashing, for shortcut to Kedar
1 2 3 4 Dehradun: It was the flashing beacons and shrill hooters of two ambulances cutting through the crowd at Sonprayag that caught the attention of a police team on duty near the Kedarnath trek route. The vehicles, moving swiftly towards Gaurikund — the last motorable point before the 16-km uphill journey to the revered shrine — gave every appearance of rushing to a medical emergency. Yet no such call had been received on Saturday. No accident had been reported. No distress signal sent from Gaurikund, which, incidentally, does not even have a hospital to receive patients. The sirens, as it turned out, masked no urgency other than the impatience of a few pilgrims trying to skip the queue to the revered temple. Inside the ambulances, police found no stretchers, no bandaged limbs or wheezing patients. Instead, they discovered three men dressed as pilgrims, calmly seated and very much uninjured. The drivers—Nikhil Wilson Massih from Haridwar and Krishna Kumar from Amroha—told officers that the vehicles had been hired not for rescue, but for convenience. One ambulance, air-conditioned and classified as a "luxury" model, had been booked by a single pilgrim. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The other, more basic, carried two. On their way uphill from Haridwar, the drivers had picked up three more passengers, squeezing them in as if the ambulances were taxis on a meter. The stretch between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, barely 2km long, is typically traversed on foot or by the shared shuttle service that ferries pilgrims back and forth. From Gaurikund, the real pilgrimage begins: a steep, hours-long trek through thinning air and winding terrain. That is, unless you can fake an ailment, rent an ambulance, and drive past those following the path the old-fashioned way. Police said both vehicles were seized near the Acrow bridge after officers grew suspicious. "The unusual thing was that the ambulance was moving towards Gaurikund and that too with people who had posed as patients. If someone is unwell, there is no reason for going towards Gaurikund to take the trek route," a policeman at Sonprayag told TOI. "If there had been some medical emergency, an ambulance should have moved towards Sonprayag, Rampur and Rudraprayag. Therefore, it was very surprising for the police team." The three original passengers fled on foot through the crowd at Sonprayag before they could be questioned. Police issued challans to both drivers and registered violations under the Motor Vehicle Act. The drivers maintained that they had no knowledge of how much money had changed hands and claimed they were merely driving the ambulances as instructed by the vehicle owners. "Our job was just to take the ambulances up to Gaurikund," one of them said.
