HC Andy Reid on Chiefs' Detractors: 'We Don't Listen to All the Noise'

Fox Newsa day ago
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a bizarre season, but one that still saw them lose just three games. That said, a Super Bowl LIX drubbing at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles — which saw them trail by as many as 34 points — and 11 of Kansas City's 15 regular-season wins being one-score affairs have led some to believe that the Chiefs' reign is nearing its end.
But head coach Andy Reid doesn't want to hear it.
"You understand because there were so many close games, but that's the National Football League, so I was proud of the guys and how they handled those [one-score games]," Reid said in an interview on "Up & Adams" on Monday when asked about the criticism that last season's team faced. "When it's all said and done, it's winning the game. We have winners, and they figured it out. I was proud of them for that.
"We don't listen to all the noise. If you do that, you're gonna go crazy, and then you're not gonna have fun, right?"
Five of Kansas City's 11 one-score victories came against teams that missed the playoffs. At the same time, the 15 regular-season wins were a franchise record for the Chiefs, who had previously won back-to-back Super Bowls and three of the past five championships.
The bulk of Kansas City's offseason was spent on keeping its own and improving its offensive line. On the preservation front, the Chiefs extended/re-signed guard Trey Smith (four-year, $94 million deal), defensive end George Karlaftis (four-year, $88 million deal), linebacker Nick Bolton (three-year, $45 million deal) and wide receiver Marquise Brown (one-year, $7 million deal), among others. In free agency, the Chiefs, most notably, signed offensive tackle Jaylon Moore (two-year, $30 million deal) and cornerback Kristian Fulton (two-year, $20 million deal). They also traded All-Pro guard Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears.
In the NFL draft, Kansas City selected Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons at pick No. 32, Tennessee defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott at pick No. 63 and Louisville defensive end Ashton Gillotte at pick No. 66, among other selections.
Kansas City lost its 2025 preseason opener to the Arizona Cardinals last week, with it next facing the Seattle Seahawks on Friday night. The Chiefs open the regular season in Brazil against the AFC West-rival Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5.
"We've got a great challenge coming up here. Get to start it off in Brazil [against the Chargers], and then we go from there. These teams in the AFC West are strong, great head coaches, great players, so we understand that. And then the rest of the league, there's so much parity in this league that you've got to be on your A game every week," Reid said. "That's what we're striving to do, get ourselves in a position where we can do that."
The 67-year-old Reid is entering his 13th season as Kansas City's head coach. The Chiefs are 143-53 in the regular season and 18-8 in the postseason under Reid, highlighted by three Super Bowl championships, 11 double-digit win seasons, 11 playoff appearances and nine consecutive AFC West division titles.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts Opens Up on Long Talk With Shedeur Sanders

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Following a joint practice session between the Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts and Shedeur Sanders were the last two players on the field. From a distance, reporters could see the two quarterbacks having a conversation, which was described as lengthy. After they spoke, Hurts gave Sanders a ride back to the locker room. After the conversation, the Eagles' star quarterback addressed reporters and spoke on the young rising star. "I'll keep the conversation intimate," Hurts told reporters. "We had a very lengthy conversation. He came to me and just wanted to talk. I'm always my perspective on what I see and how I've gone about things. Ultimately, it takes a great deal of patience and hard work and a sense of resilience. You've got to want it. You've got to want it. I'm supporting him from where I am and wishing him nothing but the best with his opportunities." Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks on after the NFL Preseason 2025 game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Lincoln Financial Field on August 7, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Eagles defeated the Bengals 34-27. MoreSanders' path to the NFL is starting off sort of similar to Hurts. He had stints with two different teams in the NCAA, and entered the NFL Draft with a lot of questions regarding his ability to translate to the pros. Hurts' draft stock didn't take a massive hit, as he ended up selected by the Eagles in the second round. As for Sanders, he slid down to the fifth round, which raised a lot of question marks. At the end of the day, Sanders ended up in a situation with the Browns, where he has a chance to play early. A strong preseason could give Cleveland a lot to consider. So far, Sanders is off to a good start. In the team's Week 1 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, Sanders completed 14 of his 23 passes. He racked up 138 yards in the air and threw for two touchdowns. He also rushed four times for 19 yards. While Hurts is still doubted plenty at this stage of his career, his overall success can't be denied. Five years in, he's got two Pro Bowls and one All-Pro honor. The veteran quarterback has led the Eagles to the Super Bowl twice and was the MVP of Super Bowl LIX, when the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs this past season. With Hurts once being in Sanders' shoes, the Texas-born quarterback was more than willing to give the young rookie some of his time following Wednesday's session. Browns Rookie QB Shedeur Sanders Injures Oblique at Training Camp Practice

National Football League Browns Rookie QB Shedeur Sanders Injures Oblique at Training Camp Practice Published Aug. 13, 2025 2:31 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders sustained an oblique injury during drills early in practice Wednesday and did not play the rest of the session. Sanders and the Browns were in Philadelphia for a pair of joint practices ahead of Saturday's preseason game. The Browns did not offer any additional information on Sanders' availability for the rest of the week. Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards with two first-half touchdown passes to Kaden Davis in his NFL preseason debut in a win over Carolina on Friday night. The performance by Hall of Famer Deion Sanders' son even caught the attention of NBA star LeBron James. "That young [man] looking good out there," James wrote. "Keep going UP!!! HEAD down on the grind and HEAD high to the most high." The Browns took Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He wasn't selected until the 144th overall pick, a stunning fall for the most recognizable player in this draft class. Sanders finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting last season for Colorado and threw for a school-record 4,134 yards last season. He is part of a crowded Browns quarterback room as Deshaun Watson is expected to sit out this season with a torn Achilles tendon. The group also includes Kenny Pickett, 40-year-old Joe Flacco and third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, who was responsible for a Football Bowl Subdivision-record 188 total touchdowns during a six-year career that included stops at Central Florida, Oklahoma and Oregon. Pickett has been slowed in training camp with a hamstring injury and Gabriel experienced a tight hamstring. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Eagles Super Bowl champion reunites with teammates amid Browns QB battle

PHILADELPHIA — One by one, there was an assembly line of Philadelphia Eagles who said hello to a former teammate, to the quarterback who took the final snap in Super Bowl LIX. Kenny Pickett was a popular guy on Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex. The Cleveland Browns were in town for their first of two joint practices ahead of Saturday's preseason game. That afforded Pickett, Jalen Hurts' 2024 backup who was traded to the Browns and is now competing for Cleveland's starting job, to catch up with old friends. After practice, Pickett spoke extensively with Jahan Dotson. He shook hands with iconic radio broadcaster Merrill Reese. He hugged Jordan Mailata, chatted with Saquon Barkley and signed a few autographs before speaking with Lane Johnson and assistant coach Jeff Stoutland. 'Man, we had a lot of great (times),' Johnson said. 'He's just a good guy.' There were plenty of smiles, plenty of laughs. But Pickett had more work to do. After catching up with old teammates, the former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick found a spot on the far left practice field and started jogging, working out the hamstring that's hampering his ability to compete. Pickett entered training camp looking to separate himself from Joe Flacco and rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel in a crowded quarterback room. But on July 26, he injured his hamstring, and he's been limited ever since. Pickett participated in 7-on-7 drills against the Eagles but didn't take part in full team sessions. It remains to be seen if the 27-year-old will be cleared to play in Saturday's preseason game. It's an unfortunate turn of events for Pickett, who was dealt from the Eagles to the Browns in exchange for a fifth-round pick and reserve quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Pickett still has a chance to get healthy and beat out Flacco, Sanders and Gabriel. But the last few weeks aren't what the New Jersey native had in mind when he landed in Cleveland. 'He was excited by the opportunity to compete for a job. That's all he wanted to do,' Tony Racioppi, Pickett's personal quarterbacks coach, told PennLive at practice. 'A lot of times, when you're a young guy who's a starter and things don't work out for you, you don't get a shot again. So I think he was excited to have that opportunity. And he worked his butt off like he always does, and he was super prepared. Then obviously the hamstring happened.' Pickett's journey to the Eagles came through western part of the state. Pitt's all-time leading passer and the 2021 ACC player of the year was selected by the Steelers with the No. 20 overall pick in 2022. He started 24 games with a 14-10 record, throwing for 4,474 yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. When Pittsburgh signed Russell Wilson last offseason, Pickett requested a trade, seeking a fresh start. The Eagles obliged. Philadelphia dealt a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks for Pickett and a fourth-round pick, securing an experienced backup for Hurts. Pickett played well in limited action. When Hurts sustained a Week 16 injury against the Commanders, Pickett came in and completed 14 of 24 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and an interception. He started the following week against the Cowboys, completing 10 of 15 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and no picks (and a 'tush push' score) in a 41-7 win. Pickett appeared in Super Bowl LIX when the game was well and truly over. He played out the final two drives and kneeled out the Eagles' 40-22 blowout of the Chiefs. Pickett, an Eagles fan growing up, had a moment he would never forget. But it wasn't a shock when Pickett was dealt to the Browns in the spring. Tanner McKee, entering his third season with the Eagles, was ready to back up Hurts. And while playing close to family and friends was nice, Pickett was itching for an opportunity to start again. 'It was a year for him to kind of step back, learn from a great organization and learn from a franchise quarterback. It was good to reset himself,' Racioppi said. 'But at the same time you want to play. And if you stay here, you're not going to play. Now, he's got an opportunity to play and be a starting quarterback in the NFL. And hey, he got a ring out of it, right?' He did indeed. Pickett came back to Philadelphia last month to receive his Super Bowl ring and celebrate with his former teammates. Barkley said earlier in camp that one of the things that made the ceremony 'even more special' was sharing it with former teammates like Pickett. A few weeks later, Pickett got to share the practice field again with the Eagles. And on Saturday, he'll be hoping to be able to play in front of family and friends again at Lincoln Financial Field — with an eye on the Browns' starting quarterback job.
