All about Oliver Rowland
Oliver Rowland is a British Formula E driver born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. His passion for motorsport ignited early — he began karting at the age of seven. Rowland quickly made his mark, finishing second in the Super 1 National Cadet Championship in 2002 and later winning the championship for two consecutive years.
In 2010, Rowland transitioned from karting to single-seaters, competing in the Formula Renault UK Winter Series with CRS Racing. After a slow start, he claimed his maiden win in the final race of the championship at Pembrey.
Rowland's big breakthrough came in 2011 when he joined Fortec Motorsport and competed in the British Championship. He quickly impressed, securing his first podium of the season followed by four consecutive podium finishes.
He also won the Graduate Cup.
In 2013, he signed with Fortec Motorsport again, this time competing in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. It was a strong season, as he finished fourth overall with two wins and seven podiums. Rowland stepped up to GP2 in 2015, making his debut at Silverstone with MP Motorsport. He made an immediate impact by scoring points in both races.

Dr Vece Paes, the hockey Olympian who shaped Indian sport long after his playing days, dies at 80

A hockey great whose influence extended well beyond the field, the multi-faceted Dr Vece Paes was a rare combination of sporting and academic excellence that healed and helped athletes across disciplines. Independence Day 2025 Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji gave India its own currency Swadeshi 2.0: India is no longer just a market, it's a maker Paes, 80, breathed his last in Kolkata early this morning after battling multiple age-related ailments, including the debilitating Parkinson's disease. To those who knew him closely Paes was a mild-mannered, and highly intelligent man, who did the country proud on the hockey field with an Olympic medal (bronze in 1972, Munich Games) and later helped hockey, cricket, tennis and even football with his sports medicine expertise. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo He was also the father of a very famous son, whose career he shaped with his gentle guidance. Leander Paes never missed a chance to tell the world how much his father meant to him and his career. Paes senior was his manager too for a long time and served as the Indian Davis Cup team's doctor for a decade. The father-son duo made for one of the most famous sporting combinations in India. Live Events "He was so dedicated to sports medicine that he fully concentrated on it after his hockey career. He had helped a number of Indian athletes in his sports medicine career," recalled former player and Paes' teammate during the 1972 Games Ajit Pal Singh. Decades later, another India hockey captain Viren Rasquinha found Dr Paes as the team's doctor during the Athens 2004 Olympics. Rasquinha on Thursday mourned the loss of an "incredible human being." "They do not make them like Doc (Dr. Paes) anymore. So knowledgeable, so warm, so kind, so humble, so jovial. Always willing to help. Always joking around. I will forever miss you Doc. You were the absolute best," he posted in a heartfelt tribute on X. Aside from hockey, Paes also dabbled in divisional level football, cricket and rugby, going on to serve as the president of the Indian Rugby Union from 1996 to 2002. He gave back to all these sports too. Paes was a part of the BCCI's anti-doping programme for several years, besides also working with the Asian Cricket Council and the Indian Davis Cup team. He also worked with the East Bengal football team and players like former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia on the insistence of then coach Subhas Bhowmick. Paes, who also served as the president of the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club, was married to former basketball player Jennifer Paes. "It is a very sad day for Indian sports, especially hockey. Paes was a highly educated and soft-spoken person. He used to help us with his guidance on sports medicine," Ajit Pal said. "We both played as centre-half in the 1972 Olympics team and he was terrific. I was one-and-and-half years younger to him and he used to guide me," the legendary former player added. Paes completed his pre-medical course from Kolkata's reputed Presidency College, in 1964-65. He also attended La Martiniere College in Lucknow. Former captain of Indian men's hockey team, B P Govinda, remembered him as a highly talented and informed person and said if not for politics within the federation, he could have been a part of the 1968 Olympics. "He was super talented both in sports and sports medicine. Sports medicine was his passion. We played together in the 1972 Olympics, but I feel he should have been in the 1968 Olympics team as well if not for internal politics. "...it didn't matter to him as he was a very soft-spoken, and a true gentleman. He never complained about anything. He just wanted to give back to sports which he did in many ways and Leander is a prime example of that," Govinda said. Another one of his teammates Harbinder Singh had similar memories of the man, whose legacy is truly inspiring. "He was a true gentleman...a very good distributor and tackler. And he had a good, strong physique too," Harbinder said. "It's a sad day for Indian hockey. I played a lot against him in domestic circuit. He used to play for Bengal and I used to play for Railways," he remembered.

Liverpool Splash Out To Secure Status As Premier League's Top Dogs

Fresh from storming to a record-equalling 19th English top-flight title, Liverpool have not held back in transforming Arne Slot's squad in pursuit of an era of Premier League dominance. On top of retaining veteran stars Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah to new contracts, the Reds have splashed out 260 million pounds ($350 million) and are reportedly far from finished in the transfer market. Two of the Bundesliga's most promising talents Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike have arrived at Anfield to add extra creativity and goals. Jeremie Frimpong has also made the move from Germany with the daunting task of replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, while Milos Kerkez joined from Bournemouth as the long-term successor to Andy Robertson at left-back. More defensive reinforcements are imminent with the club closing in on deals for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and 18-year-old Italian centre-back Giovanni Leoni from Parma. But it is the potential addition of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak for a British transfer record fee in excess of 115 million pounds that is the transfer saga of the English summer. Risky and rare strategy Liverpool were among the lowest Premier League spenders last year as Slot oversaw a steady transition from Jurgen Klopp in spectacular style. A huge investment this time round is also possible because the Reds are among the slickest movers in the market when it comes to sales. The departures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold and Tyler Morton have raised around 200 million pounds. Liverpool's bold strategy of tearing up a title-winning team is a risky and rare experiment. Only once, Manchester City in 2019, have the Premier League champions been the biggest spending English club in the market since 2007. After years of battling against the financial power of Abu Dhabi-backed City, Liverpool are now flexing their muscles thanks to years of commercial growth and prudent ownership. "It doesn't feel Liverpool-like to me," said former defender Jamie Carragher at the thought of a new 69 million pounds striker Ekitike playing second fiddle to Isak. After decades in the doldrums prior to Klopp's arrival, Liverpool are aiming to bring back glory days the club has not since the 1980s. The last time Liverpool won back-to-back titles was in 1984 and doing so this season would come with the added bonus of overtaking Manchester United as English football's top dogs. To do so, Slot has recognised the need to strike the right balance that still harnesses the best from his side's extra firepower. A pre-season trend of high-scoring encounters continued in losing the Community Shield to Crystal Palace on penalties after twice blowing the lead. "Now we are better in creating and getting promising situations than we were, in my opinion, throughout the whole of last season," said Slot. "What made us really strong last season was we only won mostly by a margin of one goal and that had mostly to do with us keeping a clean sheet or as a maximum conceding one goal." Liverpool also have extra motivation to defend their title as they try to honour a lost friend and team-mate in Diogo Jota. The Portuguese international was killed aged just 28 alongside his brother after a car accident in northern Spain last month. Tributes to Jota will continue throughout the season with "Forever 20" -- his shirt number, which the club have now retired -- printed on Liverpool's jerseys.

Jaguar Land Rover to recall over 121,500 cars in US, blame it on a faulty suspension

Tata Motors-owned British luxury car marque Jaguar Land Rover to recall more than 121,500 cars in the United States owing to a suspension knuckle issue. The recall affected cars include the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models in the country. The affected vehicles will be inspected by the technicians, and the faulty parts will be fixed or replaced without any cost to the customers. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in an official statement, has said that the potentially affected cars from Jaguar and Land Rover have faulty front suspensions. The NHTSA has stated that the aluminium front suspension knuckles, which connect the front wheels to the vehicle's critical components like the brake assembly, are at the centre of this recall. The agency has also said that the faulty suspension parts could crack and possibly increase the risk of a crash, which could be fatal if the vehicle is in speeds. The recall comes after the agency launched a preliminary investigation into 91,856 Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles over fractured front steering knuckles back in June this year. Just a few days back, Tata Motors reported a consolidated net profit of ₹4,003 crore for the first quarter of FY26, down by 62.2 per cent from the ₹10,587 crore recorded in the same quarter last year. The auto company attributed this drop in profit to lower sales volumes across segments and a dip in JLR's profits due to the US tariffs. Tata Motors has also stated that the revenue of JLR dropped by 9.2 per cent on a year-on-year basis in the last quarter of this fiscal, as compared to the first quarter of the last financial year. JLR's revenue for the quarter slumped to 6.6 billion pounds. The company attributed this decline to lowered wholesale volumes due to tariffs and the planned phase-out of legacy Jaguar models. Meanwhile, JLR is undergoing a leadership change with PB Balaji slated to take over as the new CEO from November 17, 2025. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India.
