England vs India 5th Test Playing 11 updates, live toss time, streaming
Reports from London suggest that Bumrah, India's pace spearhead, is likely to be rested. This development has sparked fresh debate over the bowling combination—particularly whether the team should include a third spinner in Kuldeep Yadav, who could emerge as a key wicket-taking option in the absence of Bumrah.
During Tuesday's training session, head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen in an extended conversation with Kuldeep on the sidelines of the nets. While such visual cues often offer insight into selection calls, the long interaction alone may not be indicative of Kuldeep's inclusion—especially as the Oval pitch has favoured seamers throughout the ongoing English season. That said, The Oval is historically known to assist spin as the match progresses.
If Kuldeep makes it to the playing XI, he is expected to replace Shardul Thakur rather than Bumrah. In Bumrah's place, Akash Deep is likely to slot in as a like-for-like replacement, while Arshdeep Singh may be in line for his debut, potentially coming in for Anshul Kamboj.
Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel is expected to don the gloves in place of Rishabh Pant, who has already been ruled out of the final match of the series.
The pre-match press conference, scheduled for Wednesday, may offer further clarity on India's team composition. England, as seen in the previous four matches, could confirm their playing XI during the media briefing.

754 and out – Shubman Gill ends stunning series 20 runs short of Sunil Gavaskar's record
Shubman Gill may have scored just 11 runs in the second innings of the fifth Test, after scoring 21 in the first, which may not be noteworthy numbers but they have brought to an end a stunning series with the bat. Gill has ended the series with a tally of 754 runs, which is the second highest tally of all time for an Indian in any Test series, only behind Sunil Gavaskar's 774 against the mighty West Indies in a five-Test series in 1971. Gavaskar had played only four matches in that series, having made his debut only in the second Test. Gill, meanwhile, has achieved this feat on his debut as India's Test captain. He is also just the third Indian to score more than 700 runs in a single series after Gavaskar and his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored 712 runs in a five-Test series at home against England in 2023/24. Gill's tally is also the second highest for a captain in any Test series, only 56 runs behind the record of 810 held by the legendary Don Bradman, who had scored that against England at home in the 1936/37 Ashes. Conversely, it is the highest score by any Indian captain in a Test series by a margin of of 22 runs – Gavaskar held the record previous for the 732 he scored in the six-Test series against the West Indies in 1978/79. Gill fell in the first innings of the first Test after going for a single that was never there. In the second innings, Gill fell off the very first ball of the second session, being trapped in front of his stumps by an inswinger from Gus Atkinson. The only Tests in which Gill failed to score centuries in this series were both in London – the third Test at Lord's and the fifth Test at the Oval. Gill started the series by scoring a century on his captaincy debut. He scored 147 in his very first innings as the skipper, followed by a score of eight in the second innings. Gill then made merry in the second Test, scoring a record 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second as he powered India to a 336-run win at Edgbaston. He then could only manage scores of 16 and six in the third Test and 12 in the first innings of the fourth before grinding out 103 runs off 238 balls as part of a match-saving effort with KL Rahul. Rahul and Gill batted out nearly 70 overs after which unbeaten centuries by Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar helped India draw the match. This was followed by the 21 and 11 he scored at the Oval.

Akash Deep Slams Maiden Test Fifty To Script History, Joins Shane Warne In Elite List For Rare Test Record
Akash Deep frustrated England with the bat and scripted history after scoring his maiden Test half-century on Day 3 of the fifth Test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval on Saturday. Sent in as a nightwatchman late on day two, Akash Deep resumed his innings at the score of 4 on day three and played an extraordinary knock in the first session, scoring 66 off 94 balls with the help of 12 boundaries. He was eventually dismissed by Jamie Overton towards the end of the first session with a short ball. Akash Deep's 66 is the second-highest score by an Indian nightwatchman in Test cricket. Notably, the highest score by an Indian nightwatchman is Amit Mishra's 84 against England, which the leg-spinner hit at the same venue in 2011. Highest Scores By Indian Nightwatchmen In Test Cricket 84 - Amit Mishra vs England, Oval, 2011 66 - Akash Deep vs England, Oval, 2025 54 - Chetan Sharma vs Australia, Adelaide, 1985 50 - Amit Mishra vs Bangladesh - Chattogram, 2010 After his fantastic half-century, Akash Deep joined legendary Shane Warne in an elite list. The 28-year-old became only the second man after Shane Warne this century to score a fifty and take a 10-wicket haul in England as an opposition player. Former Australia spinner Warne achieved this rare feat in 2005. Interestingly, there are only five instances of an Asian player achieving this double in a SENA country. ENG vs IND: Kumar Dharmasena faces fans' wrath after Jadeja lbw howler
Sri Lankan umpire Kumar Dharmasena is receiving flak from Indian fans after his wrong decision against Ravindra Jadeja on Day 3 of the fifth Test against England at the Oval. Dharmasena, who was earlier criticised for revealing that Sai Sudharsan had got an inside edge on his pads on Day 1 to England, raised his finger to signal Jadeja out in the second session on Day India all-rounder immediately opted for DRS, and the ball-tracking revealed that he was struck outside off stump, and hence the decision was reversed. However, the decision didn't go down well with Indian fans, who slammed Dharmasena for his biased umpiring. Earlier, umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula faced criticism for their shoddy umpiring during the third Test of the series at Lord's, where India fell 23 runs short of England's target of 193 in the fourth India extended their second innings lead beyond 280 in the second innings courtesy of a splendid century from Yashasvi Jaiswal. The southpaw played a magnificent innings of 118 (164), smashing 14 fours and two vs IND 5th Test Day 3 UpdatesJaiswal started the day by stitching a massive partnership with nightwatchman Akash Deep as the duo frustrated England in the first session. They added 107 runs for the fourth wicket off 150 balls to suck the life out of a depleted England attack sans Chris further stitched crucial stands with Karun Nair and Ravindra Jadeja of 40 and 44 runs respectively. He brought up his century off 127 balls with a quick single against Gus Atkinson. It was the 6th Test century for the India opener and his second of the series. Following his dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja (26*) and Dhruv Jurel (25*) took India to tea on 304/6 with a 281-run lead.- Ends
