Renuka Shahane Makes BIG Statement Amid Hindi-Marathi Conflict: 'I Do Not Like People Who...'
Renuka Shahane has expressed her opinion on the rising issues of the language conflict between Hindi and Marathi in Maharashtra. Recently, the actress, who also hails from Maharashtra, appeared on the podcast 'InControversial with Pooja Chaudhri', when she voiced her strong views on linguistic inclusivity and cultural respect, especially in Mumbai.
'If you are in a place for a very long time, it's a good thing to understand the local language, the local culture and be respectful more than anything else…It's not about the speaking of it, much more than the intention of wanting to, you know, respect it. I do not like people who do not feel the necessity to be accommodating of the local language and local culture," Renuka said.
'I do not like violence at all, you know; I do not like the fact that people can be rude about it. Going into a place where Marathi is not spoken and just slapping two or three people, it's not going to help the language in any way," the actress added.
This comes at a time when a new debate over language is brewing in Maharashtra – speak Marathi if you live in the state. It all started in April this year when the Maharashtra government passed a decision to make Hindi a compulsory third language in schools. While the decision was rolled back, several incidents have been reported where alleged MNS workers got into a heated argument with people in Mumbai and Pune who refused to speak Marathi.
Recently, Janhvi Kapoor's boyfriend, Shikhar Pahariya, also argued that even though any language, including Marathi, must be preserved, it cannot be at the cost of someone else's dignity. 'As someone from Solapur, I understand this deeply. Language shapes who we are, it has shaped our states, our stories, given us poets, songs, and revolutions. Marathi is no exception. It must be preserved, protected, and passed on, just like all of our languages. But that pride cannot come at the cost of others' dignity. Especially others who are making an honest, hard living," he wrote on his social media.

Ahmed Patel's son hails PM for Op Sindoor, says nation 'in safe hands'
Faisal Patel NEW DELHI: In remarks likely to raise eyebrows in the Congress, Faisal Patel -- son of the late party stalwart Ahmed Patel - has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership during Operation Sindoor , the cross-border strike on terror camps in Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. "It can't be better than who's running the show... The armed forces have done a great job, and PM Narendra Modi showed great leadership and brought us out of a huge crisis. I am proud of our armed forces. I have a lot of respect for Jaishankarji. How Modiji picks up bureaucrats, makes them leaders and puts them in ministry roles is a very good thing," Patel told ANI. In an interview to CNN-News18, he called Modi and home minister Amit Shah "great leaders" and declared the country was "in safe hands" - a remark loaded with political irony given Ahmed Patel's long rivalry with Modi during UPA years, when he was Sonia Gandhi's most trusted strategist. Though insisting he remains a Congress member, Patel pointed to internal drift in the party.

‘Allowing Them to Leave': Netanyahu Says Palestinians Can Exit Gaza Before Military Push
His latest comments come amid mounting international pressure and growing alarm from various European nations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a new statement on Tuesday regarding his government's plans to assert full control over the Gaza Strip, AFP reported. He indicated that Palestinians would be permitted to leave the territory ahead of a planned intensification of Israeli military operations in the area. His latest comments come amid mounting international pressure and growing alarm from various European nations, as well as Australia, over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Several countries, including Ireland, Norway, and Spain, have recently moved to formally recognise Palestinian statehood, a move widely seen as an attempt to increase diplomatic pressure on Israel to engage in ceasefire negotiations and de-escalate hostilities. Historically, Israel has maintained tight control over the Gaza border, with strict limitations on the movement of goods and people. Since the current war began in October 2023, crossings have been heavily restricted, and humanitarian aid convoys have faced repeated blockages, worsening conditions for the civilian population. In parallel with Netanyahu's remarks, The Guardian reported that Israeli airstrikes in Gaza had intensified, with at least 89 people killed in the past 24 hours alone. The report added that there was no visible movement of Israeli forces deeper into Gaza City, contrary to earlier announcements that a broader ground offensive would commence imminently. The IDF said it was reviewing the latest reports and reiterated that it was taking precautions to limit harm to civilians. However, these claims have done little to ease international criticism. Many European leaders have expressed support for Israel's right to defend itself against Hamas but have increasingly condemned the high civilian death toll and continued military operations in heavily populated areas. Last week, Israel's security cabinet approved plans to extend its military campaign into parts of Gaza that remain outside Israeli control.
