DMK a rising sun, says Stalin in reaction to Shah's remark
CHENNAI: In a veiled attack on BJP and
AIADMK
, Tamil Nadu chief minister and
DMK
supremo
M K Stalin
on Saturday said there was no place in the state for those who divided Tamils on the lines of religion and those who were helping them.
Responding to a recent remark by Union home minister
Amit Shah
that DMK should be eliminated, he said: 'DMK is not a matchstick to be doused. We are the rising Sun. We will stand for our language and our soil.'
Ahead of launching DMK's 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' campaign, Stalin wrote a letter to his party cadres saying BJP govt at the Centre was denying developmental projects to Tamil Nadu.
'They are boycotting schemes for Tamil Nadu, rejecting Tamil heritage, not allocating funds for Tamil language, and dividing people on the lines of religion.
People will reject those who divide them based on religion and those who help do that,' the Tamil Nadu CM said.
Stalin will launch the 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' campaign from July 1 with the objective to make at least 30% of the voters in the state DMK members. Recently, the party's IT wing launched an app for digital enrolment of members.
To make the campaign successful, Stalin held a meeting with district secretaries and other party functionaries virtually on Saturday.

TMC must be thrown out, only then peace can return to Bengal: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday condemned the gang-rape incident at South Calcutta Law College and launched a scathing attack at the Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing the Mamata Banerjee-led government of shielding the perpetrators, with alleged links to the ruling party. Speaking at a 'Mann Ki Baat' event in Panihati, North 24 Parganas, Pradhan declared, 'This is not a matter for a CBI inquiry. The culprits will be tried in the people's court of Bengal. They must be thrown out — only then will peace return to Bengal.' His statements assume significance as it comes ahead of the high-stakes 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. In the last few months, incidents like gang-rape incident at South Calcutta Law College, RG Kar Medical college rape case, series of sexual assault at Sandeshkhali has already put TMC at the backfoot and has given an opportunity to the BJP, which is eyeing to make inroads into West Bengal, once a bastion of CPM. The minister, accompanied by MoS Education and state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar and BJP's Kolkata North Suburban District President Chandi Charan Roy, launched a fierce attack on the TMC over recent incidents of lawlessness and alleged sexual violence in the state. 'What is going on in Bengal? The RG Kar incident has already shaken the conscience of the state. And now, another heinous crime has taken place at South Calcutta Law College in Kasba — both linked to TMC elements,' he said. Pradhan lamented the decline of Bengal's legacy in education and culture, invoking icons such as Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, and Rishi Aurobindo. 'This is the same Bengal that once led the world in knowledge, science, and spirituality. Today, it is in the news for gang-rape and anarchy under Trinamool's rule.' The minister also reacted sharply to controversial remarks made by TMC MLA Madan Mitra. 'It is their job to rub salt into the wounds. This arrogance comes from holding on to power for too long. Ravana and Duryodhana also fell because of such arrogance. History and time will answer them.' Calling TMC a mere extension of the 'old Congress culture,' Pradhan said, 'What else can one expect? They remain indifferent to the people's suffering while shamelessly protecting their own.' The BJP has demanded swift justice in the law college case and has intensified its campaign to corner TMC over worsening law and order in Bengal.

BJP leaders meet Munneru displaced persons
Khammam: 'Takingland and undertaking work without paying compensation is a betrayal of the Constitution. This is a clear example of the government's bestiality,' said Bharatiya Janata Party District President Nelluri Koteswara Rao. On Saturday, he met the displaced people of Munneru in Division 29 and 30 of Khammam city during which he received petitions given by the victims. The victims appealed to the district presidents that they had not received full compensation for the damage they had lost last year due to the Munneru floods. In addition, the victims complained that they had not been fully compensated for the hundreds of acres of land they were losing due to the construction of the retaining wall on both sides of Munneru. The BJP leaders warned that they would hold agitations for the victims if necessary. Rao made it clear that they would demand justice for the displaced people as per the 2013 Land Acquisition Act. He assured that they would talk to government officials and ensure that justice is done to the victims. Later, BJP leaders inspected the land acquisition area next to the gas godown at Maisamma Temple.

Not In Favour Of Making Hindi Compulsory From Class 1 In Maharashtra: Deputy CM Ajit Pawar
Last Updated: While speaking to the reporters in Baramati, the deputy CM said that the issue would be discussed at a cabinet meeting ahead of the monsoon session of the state legislature. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP President Ajit Pawar has weighed in on the ongoing three-language issue in the state saying that he was not in favour of making Hindi compulsory from Class 1, however, from Class 5 students and parents can take a call on the third language. While speaking to the reporters in Baramati, the deputy CM said that the issue would be discussed at a cabinet meeting ahead of the monsoon session of the state legislature. While reiterating his view, Pawar said, 'We have never been of the opinion that Hindi should be imposed from the start. There's no compulsion to learn Hindi." He clarified that there is no compulsion to learn Hindi from Class 1. Opposition parties have criticised the order issued by the BJP-led government that Hindi will be "in general" a third language for Classes 1-5 in Marathi- and English-medium schools unless at least 20 students in a class opt for an alternative. 'There's no compulsion of Hindi. We believe that everybody in their respective state should learn their mother tongue. We said that one should think about Hindi from Class five. Those in English-medium schools should learn Marathi as it is a compulsory subject. People should make the decision (about alternative language) from Class five," Pawar said as quoted by news agency PTI. He said that the issue would be discussed in the cabinet meeting on Sunday evening on the eve of the legislature session. 'Generally, in Maharashtra, along with Marathi and English, students choose Hindi as the third language," he said. Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS party workers have launched a campaign to mobilise a large crowd for the rally. In addition to social media posts, posters are being put up across the city. One such MNS poster features a photo of Ajit, implying that he supports their stance. In April, the Maharashtra government notified Hindi as a third language which will be mandatory for students in Classes 1 to 5 in Marathi and English medium schools triggering strong reactions from opposition parties – Congress, Sharad Pawar-led NCP… Amid growing protests, CM Devendra Fadnavis announced that Hindi would not be made compulsory. In a revised order, state government said Hindi would generally be the third language, but in cases where a different language is preferred, a minimum of 20 students would need to opt for it.
