5 shows like 'Duster' to watch after the season 1 finale
The crime thriller is an entertaining, action-packed ride that stars Josh Holloway as Jim Ellis, a getaway driver in 1970s Southwest America who gets pulled into a risky alliance with ambitious FBI agent Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson). Her target: his boss Ezra Saxton (Keith David), the untouchable head of a sprawling criminal enterprise.
Filled with tons of action and good old-fashioned detective work, "Duster" made for an exciting genre entry. While you wait to hear about season 2, here are some other great shows like "Duster" to watch next.
Set against the same 1970s Southwestern backdrop as "Duster," "Dark Winds" is another great crime drama to sink your teeth into. It focuses on three officers of the Navajo Tribal Police in their efforts to keep the peace in a community that has been thoroughly neglected by the U.S. government, to the extent that they are beginning to see the rise of extremist groups.
Based on a novel series by Tony Hillerman, "Dark Winds" cultivates a unique atmosphere that makes it a perfect watch for fans of psychological thrillers. AMC has aired three seasons, and a fourth season has been ordered.
Watch seasons 1-2 on Netflix and all 3 seasons on AMC Plus
We love a crime drama with a no-nonsense police woman desperately trying to take down the bad guys in her community. While Nina attempts to bust the leader of a local crime syndicate in "Duster," Mare (Kate Winslet) in Mare of Easttown is committed to investigating the murder of a local teen.
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
And there's no easy way to say this, but Mare's been going through a lot as we start off the show. She's recently divorced, her son died by suicide, she's embroiled in a custody battle with her late son's girlfriend for custody of her grandson, and public confidence in her abilities as a detective is at an all-time low, since another girl from their community has been missing for a year.
And yet, Mare perseveres. With a stunning lead performance from Winslet, "Mare of Easttown" is an all-time great limited series.
Watch on HBO Max
Although "Godfather of Harlem," as the name suggests, takes place in New York City, some 3,000 miles away from the setting of "Duster," it features a similar crime lord as we see in Keith David's Saxton.
Based on a true story, it stars Forest Whitaker as Bumpy Johnson, who, after serving 10 years in prison, returns home to Harlem in the early 1960s and goes toe-to-toe against the Italian mob to regain control of his old neighborhood.
"Godfather of Harlem" received positive reviews from critics and ran for four seasons on MGM Plus. The fact that it was on this network rather than one with a bit more cachet among viewers is likely the cause of its lack of name recognition, but rest assured, it's a great watch.
Watch on MGM Plus and seasons 1-3 on Hulu
If you had told us 20 years ago that one of the best ever crime dramas on television would star Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, we wouldn't have believed you. And yet here we are.
The noirish, downbeat "True Detective" is a classic in its genre, revolving around two Louisiana policemen returning to a murder case that they had initially investigated 17 years earlier.
With strong performances from both Harrelson and McConaughey, a moody production design, and a thoroughly compelling narrative, the first season of "True Detective" was one for the books. Although the anthology series couldn't live up to its legacy in later seasons, it still deserves credit for reinvigorating the genre on television.
Watch on HBO Max
When we look at crime dramas, nine times out of ten, they're tied up in some kind of drug trafficking situation. After all, this isn't the Old West, and no one's out here robbing stagecoaches anymore.
That's certainly the case in "Hotel Cocaine," a stylish throwback to 1970s Miami, where cocaine was king. It stars Danny Pino as Roman Compte, a Cuban immigrant who runs the Mutiny Hotel, an establishment known for being a revolving door of drug lords, CIA operatives, and politicians.
But Compte winds up in over his head when he's courted by both his family in the drug world and government agents who want him to work as a double agent. The guy's just trying to run a hotel, you know?

See Julie, Todd Chrisley's emotional return home in new Lifetime trailer
After two years in federal prison, cameras are once again rolling on the Chrisleys. On July 31, Lifetime released a five-minute trailer for "The Chrisleys: Back to Reality," a fall docuseries that shows the "Chrisley Knows Best" family members' fight for Todd and Julie Chrisley's release, followed by the former real estate moguls' return home after President Donald Trump's pardon in May. The trailer shows Todd, wearing a "45-47" hat in honor of the two-term president, telling wife Julie: "I never thought I'd be with a dark-headed woman, but I'm willing to try it tonight." Julie, known for her voluminous, shoulder-length blonde 'dos, is sporting natural brown locks with grown-out gray hair toward her roots in the footage of the couple reuniting with their family. Who will be in 'The Chrisleys: Back to Reality?' Family members from 27-year-old daughter Savannah to sons Chase, 29, and Grayson, 19, give their input throughout the upcoming series as they give talking head interviews about their family's dynamic during their parents' imprisonment. Grandparents "Nanny" Faye Chrisley, as well as Harvey and Pam Hughes, also make appearances alongside Todd's granddaughter Chloe, whom he and Julie adopted in 2016. One person who likely won't show up in the series is Todd's daughter, Lindsie Chrisley Campbell. "We're no longer family. Lose our last name," Savannah says at one point, referring to her half-sister's past communication with the FBI. A screenshot of a December 2020 email shows Lindsie saying, "I'm still a victim of Todd Chrisley's harassment." 'Not going to lie': Todd Chrisley addresses Julie Chrisley's post-prison look "With our parents gone, our household is completely divided," Savannah, who spearheaded the charge to get her parents released, says. "We can tell this story today and then we can be done with this part of our life," Julie is heard saying off-camera. Todd tells the cameras, "I'm looking at this as me exposing the truth, and depending on how long this interview goes, you might see more than what you bargained for." What happened with the Chrisleys? What landed them in prison, why they were pardoned What happened to Julie and Todd Chrisley? On May 27, Trump called Savannah to let her know her parents were "going to be free and clean, and I hope we can do it by tomorrow." In May, Julie and Todd Chrisley were released from their respective prisons in Lexington, Kentucky, and Pensacola, Florida. Both had served more than two years of their prison terms, which were commuted following Trump's full pardon. In June 2022, Todd and wife Julie Chrisley, who portrayed themselves as real estate tycoons in the South on their USA Network shows, were found guilty of conspiring to defraud community banks in Atlanta out of more than $36 million. The pair was accused of running a scheme that, through fraudulent loans, defrauded the IRS and committed tax evasion. Julie Chrisley was additionally convicted of obstruction of justice and wire fraud. Todd Chrisley was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Julie Chrisley received a seven-year sentence, and both reported to their respective federal prisons in January 2023. When is 'The Chrisleys: Back to Reality' coming out? "The Chrisleys: Back to Reality" will have a two-part premiere, with each episode lasting two hours. The first part will air at 8 p.m. ET Sept. 1, followed by the second half at 8 p.m. ET Sept. 2. The rest of the episodes air weekly on Tuesdays, from Sept. 9-16, at 8 p.m. ET.

Kash Patel's Girlfriend, 26, Confronted With MAGA Spy Accusations While Spilling on Their Relationship
Country artist Alexis Wilkins says she's had enough of the 'insanely ridiculous' conspiracy theories swirling around her romantic relationship with Trump's FBI Director Kash Patel. In a wide-ranging interview on Megyn Kelly's show, the 26-year-old dismissed MAGA chatter accusing her of being a secret Israeli 'honeypot' agent planted to compromise Trumpworld via the 45-year-old Patel. 'It would have been a really long-game play,' she joked, noting she began dating Patel 'a little over two and a half years ago—so, long before he was the head of the FBI.' The singer's pushback echoes a recent online statement in which she blasted 'accounts that are farming engagement' by branding her a Mossad asset. Those claims erupted after the Justice Department said the long-awaited Epstein files contained no 'client list,' prompting furious MAGA influencers to look for a scapegoat. Some trolls fixated on Wilkins' stint making educational videos for conservative education company PragerU. Online bios of the company's CEO, Marissa Streit, have noted her previous service in an Israeli intelligence unit—but there is no evidence that Wilkins has any connection to Israel. The attacks on Wilkins came as part of a broader trend among young MAGA commentators who have folded Israel into their conspiracies around Epstein. As reported earlier this month, one account even misidentified the Arkansas-raised singer as a 'Jewish' country singer. On Kelly's show, Wilkins confirmed that she is a Christian who spent part of her childhood in the U.K. and Switzerland. A 2023 profile said Wilkins attended the Collège du Léman school in Switzerland—which former Fox News star Tucker Carlson also attended—and that her father worked for Gillette, while her mother was in the pharmaceuticals and aerospace industries. Wilkins told Kelly she understands why people might think she was a spy. 'I think people see certain pieces and I get it,' she said. 'They want to connect things, they want to justify, you know, some of the pain that that they've been through watching the last four years, and there's pieces of this that, you know, I can, I understand. 'But I think that they've taken just these pieces of evidence that you laid out and tie them together in all of the wrong ways.' Wilkins also walked Kelly through her small-town bona fides—growing up in Arkansas, shipping in country albums from the States while her family lived briefly in Europe—before revealing the Nashville house party where she and Patel first crossed paths. 'We just happened to meet,' she said, at an 'event that we both went to at a friend's house.' The pair's 19-year age gap, Wilkins added, never felt relevant compared to his 'incredible character' and their shared patriotism. 'I have always liked, when I met him, I just liked that he was so, so honest,' gushed Wilkins. 'He's exactly who he is all the time. His character is incredible. His values are incredible.' 'And, you know, we both are very patriotic. So obviously there are things there that we definitely agree on, but he's just the most honest, you know, most integrity I've really experienced in a person, he's fantastic,' she added. Regarding the spy claims, Wilkins' political persuasion is hardly a secret: she hosts a weekly Rumble show, has long worked with veterans' charities, and flatly rejects what she calls the 'left-woke institution.' It's not 'like there's not enough information out there about me to glean a real conclusion on all of this kind of vigilante research,' she said. But being outspoken, Wilkins argued, should not make her a target for antisemitic fantasies. 'Seeing these things twisted is not only very confusing, very out of left field for me, but also incredibly disheartening. 'It's, it's bizarre to me, you know, as a, as a—pretend I'm a third person—it just, it doesn't make any sense.' Solve the daily Crossword
