Why Julian Brandt's Borussia Dortmund future hangs in the balance
Julian Brandt is in the final 18 months of his contract at Borussia Dortmund, and it's uncertain as to whether the German's future is at the club.
As reported by , it's unclear as to whether there will be contract negotiations to extend Brandt's current deal beyond 2026. One reason for this is it's not clear known if Borussia Dortmund will be playing Champions League football next season. Die Schwarzgelben sit 10th in the Bundesliga, seven points behind Freiburg who occupy the final UCL spot. But after Niko Kovac's first league win as Dortmund head coach will certainly give the club a boost heading into Saturday's game against St. Pauli. Champions League qualification would mean that Sebastian Kehl and Lars Ricken would be able to meet Brandt's demands.
Secondly, the club want to wait and see how Brandt ends the season. The 28-year-old has three goals and five assists in 19 Bundesliga games this season, and five assists in nine Champions League games, but the player's form and performances have always come under scrutiny. It's likely that the player would need to be more consistent to earn a new contract.

FIFA reveals ticket sales in wake of sparse Club World Cup attendance
FIFA reveals ticket sales in wake of sparse Club World Cup attendance Show Caption Hide Caption Are Boca Juniors fans the most fun crowd at FIFA Club World Cup? Boca Juniors fans showed up in force to their teams opening match at the FIFA Club World Cup. Sports Pulse FIFA says it has sold close to 1.5 million tickets for Club World Cup matches as of Tuesday, as images of empty stadium seats during weekday games have become a prevalent storyline during the tournament's first week in the United States. The Club World Cup opener featuring Lionel Messi and Inter Miami playing to an entertaining, but scoreless draw against Egyptian side Al Ahly on Saturday drew 60,927 fans at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium. One day later, 80,619 fans attended a match to see Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain beat Spanish club Atlético de Madrid 4-0 at the Rose Bowl near Los Angeles. It was the largest crowd either club played in front of during their respective 2024-25 seasons. However, Tuesday's noon ET match at MetLife Stadium between German standouts Borussia Dortmund and Brazilian club Fluminense was played in front of 34,736 fans in the 82,500-seat venue that will host the Club World Cup final on July 13. The start time was 6 p.m. in Dortmund, Germany. MetLife is also set to host next year's World Cup final. Monday's 3 p.m. ET match between Chelsea FC (England) and Los Angeles FC (MLS) also saw more empty seats than seats filled at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. There was an announced crowd of 22,137 in the 71,000-seat venue, home to the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. The match began at 8 p.m. local time in the United Kingdom. 'I think the environment was a bit strange. You know, the stadium was almost empty – not full,' Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca said after the 2-0 win. FIFA says more than 340,000 fans attended the first eight matches of the tournament (Saturday-Monday), and expects more than 50,000 fans to show up to the top-selling group-stage matches in the next week. Among those matches are Real Madrid's Club World Cup opener with Saudi club Al Hilal at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium on Wednesday, their tilt against Mexican standouts CF Pachuca on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, and a match against Austrian side FC Salzburg on June 26 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The others are Friday: England's Chelsea FC will meet Brazilian side CR Flamengo in Philadelphia, and Germany's FC Bayern München will face Argentina's CA Boca Juniors in Miami. 'FIFA is proud of the unique and multicultural atmosphere and support this new competition has already generated — and thanks every fan who has brought their voice, passion, and presence as the FIFA Club World Cup continues to grow into the undisputed pinnacle of global club football,' FIFA president Gianni Infantino said in a statement.

Inter Milan vs. Monterrey odds, predictions: FIFA Club World Cup picks, best bets Tuesday
Gambling content 21+. The New York Post may receive an affiliate commission if you sign up through our links. Read our editorial standards for more information. The last time we saw Inter Milan, it was walking off the pitch at the Allianz Arena in Munich after an embarrassing 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Final. It marked the second time in three years that this veteran-laden roster was on the losing side of the most important match of the European Soccer season. A little more than two weeks later, Inter heads to the Rose Bowl for its opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup against Monterrey. Inter is a -220 favorite to win Tuesday's match. Inter vs. Monterrey betting preview There's a massive talent gap between Inter Milan and Monterrey. Inter finished one point behind first-place Napoli in Serie A, was runner-up in the Champions League and made it to the semi-finals in the Coppa Italia. La Beneamata finished their domestic campaign with the fifth-best goal difference in Europe's Big 5 Leagues, and they were eighth in expected goal differential. By all accounts, Inter was one of the 10 best clubs in the world this past season. In a vacuum, you'd say this all points to a straightforward win for Inter on Tuesday against Monterrey, one of the top clubs in Liga MX. Monterrey doesn't have the depth that Inter boasts, but there are plenty of familiar names on this roster, most notably former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, former Sevilla winger Lucas Ocampos, longtime Mexican internationals Hector Moreno and Jesus Corona and former Real Betis midfielder Sergio Canales. Inter's Federico Dimarco during the Champions League Final. AP Inter vs. Monterrey pick We've seen some terrific performances from the heavyweights in this competition out of the gates, but it's still fair to be skeptical of where Inter's level will be after a grueling European campaign was capped off in a demoralizing loss in Munich. Inter is a team that really leans into the physical side of the game, but if its not fully up for this tournament – or are just fatigued – it loses that edge. Monterrey could get played off the park in this one, but we'll take a shot at a big price and hope that Inter isn't firing Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Though the news left Inter chiefs furious with the 49-year-old, they were not unprepared for such an outcome.
