Microsoft has a new trick to improve laptop battery life on Windows
The energy saver mode in Windows 11 typically dims a display brightness by 30 percent, disables transparency effects, and stop apps running in the background. Non-critical Windows update downloads are also paused, and certain apps like OneDrive, OneNote, and Phone Link may not sync fully while energy saver is enabled.
This new adaptive energy saver mode, which will only be available on devices with a battery, will automatically enable or disable without affecting screen brightness. That will make it less noticeable on devices like laptops, tablets, and handhelds.
'Adaptive energy saver is an opt-in feature that automatically enables and disables energy saver, without changing screen brightness, based on the power state of the device and the current system load,' explains Microsoft's Windows Insider team. Microsoft has started testing this with Canary Channel Windows 11 testers recently, so expect to see it appear in Windows 11 later this year.

ALBAWABA - According to a joint investigation by several outlets, Microsoft sparked backlash from pro-Palestine activists after reportedly partnering with the Israeli military to store millions of Palestinians' calls and texts via Azure. The Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call revealed that Microsoft collaborated with Israel's military intelligence Unit 8200 in a surveillance program and used the Azure cloud service to store the information inside its data centers in Europe. Reports also revealed that Israel asked for Microsoft's assistance after reportedly running out of space on their cloud service. The investigation's exposé raised concerns among pro-Palestine activists due to its violation of human rights and privacy. Additionally, the investigation revealed that in 2021, Yossi Sariel, the head of Unit 8200, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met to discuss the deal, and the project went live in 2022. This means that Azure has been reportedly storing the data of Palestinians for three years. According to The Guardian, Microsoft viewed the deal as a "lucrative commercial opportunity" and "an incredibly powerful brand [Azure] moment" due to the anticipation of hundreds of millions in revenue. Unit 8200 sources revealed that the cloud service helped in the preparation of several military operations in Gaza and the West Bank. Pro-Palestine activists took to several social media platforms to urge individuals to boycott Microsoft and its services. The boycott hopes to put pressure on the American tech giant to stop its partnership with the Israeli military. Microsoft helping 'Israel' with surveillance to attack Palestinians: report
A joint investigation by The Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call has uncovered that 'Israel's' elite military intelligence Unit 8200 is utilizing Microsoft's Azure cloud platform for an extensive surveillance program, storing millions of Palestinian phone calls. This cloud-based system, operational since 2022, has significantly expanded 'Israel's' intelligence capabilities, raising serious human rights concerns . Unit 8200 reportedly sought Microsoft's assistance due to insufficient storage and computing power on its own servers, aiming to process "a million calls an hour". By July 2025, an estimated 11,500 terabytes of 'Israeli' military data, equivalent to approximately 200 million hours of audio, are projected to be housed on Microsoft's servers, primarily in the Netherlands. This marks a shift from monitoring "tens of thousands of suspects" to "millions of Palestinians" . Intelligence sources allege this data has been used to identify bombing targets in Gaza and for coercive purposes, including blackmail and justifying arrests in the West Bank. The collaboration, initiated after a late 2021 meeting between Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and then-Unit 8200 Commander Sariel, was viewed internally by Microsoft leadership as a "lucrative business opportunity". Despite Microsoft's public statements of finding "no evidence" its technology was used to harm Palestinians or aid civilian surveillance, leaked documents suggest Microsoft engineers were aware the data would include raw intelligence and audio files. The revelations have intensified protests from Microsoft employees, who have formed campaigns like "No Azure for Apartheid," demanding an end to the company's contracts with the 'Israeli' military.
