Former Carl Hayden High School athlete Kendre Pride killed in Phoenix shooting

A 20-year-old man who was a star two-sport athlete in high school was killed in a shooting at a Phoenix apartment, according to police.
Officers responded to an apartment complex near 32nd and Glendale avenues at around 5:10 p.m. on June 7 after receiving reports of gunshots. They found Kendre Pride with at least one gunshot wound, according to department spokesperson Sgt. Rob Scherer.
Pride did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the apartment, Scherer said.
Homicide detectives took over the investigation, Scherer said. It was not known if police had identified any suspects.
He encouraged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish to provide an anonymous tip. Rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest in this case, Scherer said.
Pride was a top junior two-sport athlete in the state who attended Carl Hayden Community High School in Phoenix in 2022 and played as a running back in football and as a guard in basketball. Pride was supposed to move to Basha High School in Chandler but ended up not doing so.
He was listed as having played as a defensive back at Feather River College in Quincy, California, in fall 2024, according to the school's website.

Masked ICE Agents Detain U.S. Citizen Who Is Nine Months Pregnant
In an instance of exceptional depravity, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a pregnant U.S. citizen just days before her due date, NBC News reported Tuesday. Cary López Alvarado was detained by masked ICE agents Sunday, who claimed that she was obstructing an arrest of her partner and his co-worker, two undocumented immigrants from Guatemala, during a raid in Hawthorne, a city in Los Angeles County. López Alvarado and her cousin Alberto Sandoval, who is also a citizen, were opening a gate to allow their truck into the parking lot of a private building when ICE agents arrived. 'They had us all surrounded,' she told NBC News in an interview from a hospital bed, her voice breaking. After being released by ICE shortly after her arrest, López Alvarado experienced sharp pains in her stomach, and was admitted to the hospital. 'I had lost my balance,' she tearfully told NBC. 'He was kind of shoving me away from the door, and uh, that's when I kind of just like leaned forward because I was kind of trying to protect the stomach.' In a video of the incident obtained by the outlet, neighbors could be heard shouting 'Let her go,' and She's pregnant!' In one video, López Alvarado can be heard explaining to the agents that they could not enter private property. The agents told her that the parking wasn't private property, and that she was impeding their arrest, she said. 'I wasn't resisting or anything,' she said. 'I can't fight back; I'm pregnant.' When López Alvarado tried to tell the officers that she was due June 17, she said they responded, ''OK, your baby is going to be born here, but you're from Mexico, right?' And I told them no.' López Alvarado told Telemundo 52 in Spanish that she was born in Los Angeles. As part of its inhumane crackdown on immigration, the Trump administration has readily arrested U.S. citizens, deported families, and endangered sick children, leaving hollow promises to target individuals with criminal records in the rearview. In a statement to NBC News, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said that López Alvarado had been detained because she allegedly 'obstructed federal law enforcement by blocking access to a car that had two Guatemalan illegal aliens in it.' The statement claimed that the ICE agents had been assaulted during the incident and that 'rioters' had thrown wrenches and batteries at the agents. Sandoval still faces assault charges, though his mother, María Alvarado, told Telemundo 52 that he was innocent, and there was proof. 'My son didn't attack. He was attacked. There are videos. MTA conductor slashed in face while announcing Bronx train delays
THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — An MTA conductor was slashed in the face while announcing train delays in a Bronx subway station on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The 36-year-old woman was attacked on the platform of the No. 6 train in the Whitlock Avenue subway station at around 12:23 p.m., according to the NYPD. More Local News The conductor was announcing train delays when the suspect came up to her and allegedly said, 'no one will tell him what to do,' according to the New York Transit Union. The suspect then allegedly cut the worker on the left side of her face, near her eye, officials said. She was taken hospital for treatment and needed stitches to close the gash, officials said. 'The union is calling on the city to notify police patrols to be especially vigilant and cover the conductor's cab area as they work to reduce crime. This easily could have been a deadly assault — we must do everything we can to prevent the next one,' Union President John V. Chiarello said in a statement. The suspect ran off after the incident and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and green pants, police said. There have been no arrests.
