The Devil Wears Prada confirms sequel - but this key character won't return
After years of speculation and some hints in between, it has finally been confirmed. The Devil Wears Prada will have a second sequel, but a controversial character won't be returning.
A sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is on its way after almost two decades since its debut. The happy news was shared by 20th Century Studios, who surprised viewers by also saying that production had already begun.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the famous cast will consist of Hollywood and returning stars, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. Of course, the storyline will be directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna. However, one face that won't be reprising his role is Adrian Grenier.
Grenier portrayed Nate Cooper in the 2006 film, Andy Sachs' (Anna Hathaway) boyfriend from university. At the beginning of the film, both were portrayed as a happy couple with professional careers, Andy as a journalist at Runway magazine under Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and Nate as a sous chef.
Throughout the film, his relationship with Andy became tricky as her career took off, creating a few fights as well as a temporary breakup, following her late arrival at his birthday celebration.
Even though the couple ended up reconciling, viewers labelled Nate's character as the 'true villain' for his lack of support. Towards the end of the film, the couple goes their separate ways, as Andy pursues her career in New York, and Nate takes a job in Boston.
Fans expressed their excitement amid the sequel news. Some were happy that Nate's character wouldn't interfere with Andy's career, but others were hoping he would make a return.
A fan commented: 'The real villain of the film. Jarlsberg was more important to him than Andy.' A second one, added: 'Good, and he can take his burnt grilled cheese with him.'
Another viewer wrote on X: 'Nate never was the real villain in devil wears prada and if you think he was, you completely missed the point of the story.'

'Nate Cooper will be missed in 'THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2'. Adrian Grenier's character was special in the film, the fun will be incomplete without him!'
During the cast's 2021 reunion, Grenier spoke about his character being considered the villain of the story. He said: 'All those memes that came out were shocking to me. It hadn't occurred to me until I started to really think about it, and perhaps it was because I was as immature as Nate was at the time and in many ways he's very selfish and self-involved, it was all about him, he wasn't extending himself to support Andy in her career.'
'At the end of the day, it's just a birthday, right? It's not the end of the world,' he added. The actor explained that he didn't realise how immature his actions were until he came much older and had 'time to reflect and much deliberation.'
The 2006 film was adapted from former Vogue assistant Lauren Weisberger's book of the same name. She worked for Anna Wintour, Vogue's former Editor-in-Chief, who recently stepped down from her position in the iconic magazine after 37 years.
A release date is yet to be announced. However, according to the reports, the movie is expected to be released in 2026.

'I partied at Boomtown twice - it's unforgettable but I won't go back'
Boomtown is chaotic and unforgettable - but after six days of tents and toilet trauma, I decided I'd officially retired from raver life and this is the main reason why Boomtown isn't your average festival. It's immersive, theatrical, and borderline unhinged - in the best and worst ways. I've been twice, and both times gave me memories I'll never forget. But I've definitely reached my limit and I won't be back - even if I was paid. The truth is, I didn't go because the line up blew me away - it's not even really my kind of music. Sure, I can appreciate a cheeky Basslayerz drum and bass mix but that's as far as I'll go with that genre. My friends convinced me to go and to be honest, they sold it to me - I was excited to go, intrigued by what the festival would offer. I'd never been to a camping festival before and the idea of camping made my belly hurt. But I was 18, wide-eyed and finally getting a taste of freedom after growing up with a strict mum (which I'm grateful for now, by the way). When I arrived, it was nothing I'd ever imagined, it was like stepping into a horror film set but this one was filled with thumping bass and actors running towards you. Boomtown's not all bad and that's the thing - it's a love-hate experience. One I think everyone should try just once. On one unexpected night we decided to go to this 'abandoned' house set and I was met with such a surprise, instead of the usual drum and base genre, they were blasting soca music. Now, while I said money wouldn't make me go back - a full Caribbean themed weekend would for sure. Another experience that will always stand out to me was seeing Lauryn Hill performing. If you're considering going to Boomtown, party within your limits, because no one warns you that camping there it's basically a full time job. There's the early set-up day, five days of music (I think, I lost count), and then most people leave the day after it ends. You're camping for nearly a week, and survival mode starts early. We had to find a space for our tent and our best bet was on a hill, which resulted in an awkward night's sleep and a literal uphill battle just to get some rest. Also, I was young at the time so I didn't really care, but overcrowded in a tent isn't for the faint hearted. The toilets still haunt me - like every other festival toilet - and the signal at the festival was terrible, so make sure you stick together or assign a meeting point. I have to give Boomtown credit - the world-building and immersive elements are next level. The actors, the pretend businesses, the wild setups - it's like stepping into another dimension. If I had to describe Boomtown in one word, I'd still say: unforgettable. But now I'm in my mid twenties, I like festivals that start in the morning and finish that very night. My body can just about handle one night out let alone five in a row.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is coming... and I've found exactly what Miranda Priestly is wearing

If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more 'By all means move at a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me,' is my favourite movie quote. It's from The Devil Wears Prada and is uttered by Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of the fictional Runway magazine, to her long-suffering assistant Andy Sachs. And now, 19 years after the release of the original, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is being filmed in New York. Fashion fans are being treated to a stream of paparazzi pics and social media reels posted by fans who seem to have endless hours on their hands to follow the cast and crew around and document every scene on their iPhones. Don't these people have jobs? Andy (played by Anne Hathaway) still looks stressed, Miranda (Meryl Streep) still looks terrifying, and although almost two decades have passed, time seems to have stood still for this pair. That said, I do want to have a moan about the constant spoiling of scenes from unreleased film and TV projects these days. When And Just Like That… started shooting its first series in New York, the wardrobe department told me they found it frustrating that the actors' costumes were being endlessly trashed before anything had been seen in context on TV. It's annoying that I already know what Hathaway and Streep wear in the movie a year ahead of its release date – ruining the big reveal – but as this knowledge is out there, I thought I'd share what I've learnt so far. Andy Sachs (below) is no longer dressing like a fashion victim who raided the Runway cupboard. She has developed her own cool-girl style, favouring labels like Toteme and Phoebe Philo, plus a vintage pinstripe suit by Jean Paul Gaultier. Miranda is less high fashion this time and instead opts for power dressing. She has been seen (below) in a pair of ruby-red slingback heels from Jacquemus, a beige, single-breasted Sa Su Phi coat, navy trousers, a ribbed white blouse with a Mark Cross clutch bag and Briony Raymond jewellery. Polished and still in charge is obviously Miranda's sequel look. I can't wait to see more on screen. @youmagazine IN THE JEANS The holy grail of denims? Levi's has just released this new low-rise, wide-legged pair – and they look pretty perfect to me. Jeans SHELL OUT The cool crowd are wearing beads and shells right now, and no one does summer holiday jewellery like Anni Lu. This necklace is from the Ocean Treasure collection. SPOTTED Rosie Huntington-Whiteley must take a lot of luggage on holidays. Attending her brother's wedding in Paris, then sailing in Italy with her family, the model is busy serving up some extremely glam attire. Here she is (right) wearing a Saint Laurent suit while at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on the French Riviera.

The blonde was seen heading toward the set of the sequel which is filming all around Manhattan. Sweeney wore an oversized blue hoodie with the hood pulled over her face to hide her identity as she held onto a black umbrella. Newcomers to the franchise are Patrick Brammall, Kenneth Branagh and Justin Theroux. Sydney Sweeney was seen arriving to the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York City on Wednesday There is a chance that Sweeney might just have a small cameo. American Eagle has defended Sweeney amid online criticism of the star's advertising campaign with the company. The retailer revealed a series of adverts with the Euphoria actress with the tagline 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans' last week but the pun was met with a fierce backlash on social media as the phrase 'great genes' has a historical association with eugenicists - who claim that humanity can be improved genetically through selective breeding. American Eagle wrote in a Instagram post on Friday: 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. 'We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.' Sydney explained how she was 'freaking out' when she was approached to star in the campaign - which saw the company's stock surge by 10 per cent - as she has long been a fan of American Eagle's jeans. The star told People: 'I was freaking out because I was like, 'This is perfect', and I was so excited. I was like, 'This is it. This is Syd. I will be able to bring this to life. You have no idea.'' Sydney declared that she feels 'confident and comfortable' in the brand's denim. The Echo Valley star said in a statement: 'There is something so effortless about American Eagle - it's the perfect balance of being put-together but still feeling like yourself. 'Their commitment to creating pieces that make you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin is something that resonates with me. 'It's rare to find a brand that grows with you, the way American Eagle has for generations. They have literally been there with me through every version of myself.' American Eagle's chief marketing officer Craig Brommers said that signing up Sweeney was hugely significant for the company because the actress is the 'It girl of the moment'. He told WWD: 'I think this is potentially one of the biggest gets in American Eagle history. 'Sydney Sweeney is the It girl of the moment, and she is helping us create the It jeans campaign of the season. Sydney really encapsulates American Eagle. 'She is the girl who can play the red carpet but she's also the girl next door, and that duality really defines Gen Z and Millennials.'
