'Do whatever you can': Mirzapur police officer refuses to pay for glasses, threatens shopkeeper; watch video
A police inspector in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, was caught on CCTV allegedly threatening an optical shop owner and leaving without paying for a repaired pair of eyeglasses. The video, recorded on July 25 at Chashma Point, has gone viral on social media.
In the footage, the inspector is seen speaking in a threatening tone and saying, "I will not pay. Do whatever you can," before walking out with the glasses.

Shop owner Ajit Singh said the officer had come to replace the lenses in an old pair of spectacles, for which the repair charge was Rs 800. While the inspector had earlier made an advance payment for a separate pair of glasses, Singh said the unpaid amount was for this separate repair.
Meanwhile, the Mirzapur Police also released a statement later acknowledging the situation and clarifying some facts. They confirmed that while the inspector did indeed pay in advance for one pair of spectacles, he declined to pay the additional Rs 800 for the separate lens replacement and stood firm despite protest from the shopkeeper. Later, the police official left the shop without paying the remaining amount.

High court asks accused in cheating case with Navjot Sidhu's wife to deposit passport and participate in mediation

He shall deposit his passport with the investigating officer on arriving in the country,' the HC ordered. As per the FIR, registered in October 2024 at Patiala, former MLA Navjot Kaur came into contact with Gagandeep Singh, alias Prince, who introduced himself as a partner of Ms Space Builders and Promoters and OTH Builders and Promoters, allegedly involved in real estate projects across Mohali and Zirakpur. Gagandeep allegedly gave assurances of high returns while asking the complainant for investment in some real estate projects. On this, Navjot Kaur and her relatives allegedly invested around Rs 10.35 crores through bank transfers as well as cash into the real estate venture represented by Gagandeep. Later, the returns were delayed, and the cheques issued by Gagandeep to refund money were dishonoured. On Navjot Kaur's complaint, an FIR was registered in Patiala. The accused approached the High Court for bail.

CSP operator shot at in Samastipur, over Rs 1 lakh looted
Patna: Armed miscreants shot at an SBI customer service point (CSP) operator and looted Rs 1.25 lakh from an SBI customer service point (CSP) at Malinagar village under Chakmahesi police station area in Samastipur district on Monday. The CSP operator, Manish Kumar, was shot in the right thigh while he was attempting to catch hold of the fleeing robbers, police said. Chakmahesi SHO, Santosh Kumar Yadav, said: "The robbers fired shots while fleeing, injuring the CSP operator. The stolen amount is approximately Rs 1.25 lakh," he said. Yadav said the initial inquiry from the victim revealed that the incident occurred around 1pm when two masked men, posing as customers, entered the CSP on two separate motorcycles. As they approached the counter, they brandished pistols and demanded money. "After seizing the cash from the counter, the robbers attempted to escape. In a bid to stop them, Manish hurled a hammer at the robbers, but it missed the target. In retaliation, the robbers opened fire, hitting Kumar in the thigh," he said. One of the robbers' motorcycles could not start so they escaped on a bike. Chhattisgarh liquor scam: Chaitanya Baghel's judicial remand extended till August 18
RAIPUR: The judicial remand of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, has been extended by another 14 days by the special PMLA court in Raipur in connection with the ongoing probe linked to multi-crore liquor scam case. Chaitanya, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 18 from his Bhilai residence, was produced before the court upon the expiry of his initial 14-day remand. Chaitanya's counsel, Faisal Rizvi, stated, "The ED sought another routine 14-day judicial remand, which the court granted, extending custody till August 18. The court also directed the agency to file a charge sheet within seven days." The ED's remand document alleges Chaitanya's key role in laundering over Rs 1,000 crore linked to the excise scam, with a portion allegedly funneled into his real estate project, 'Vitthal Green', under Baghel Developers. The agency claims investigation reveals Rs 16.70 crore of scam proceeds were laundered through his real-estate ventures 'Vitthal Green' under Baghel Developers. Meanwhile, Bhupesh Baghel, now an MLA from Patan, accused the Centre of misusing agencies to target opposition leaders. Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court, hearing a petition by Baghel and his son seeking protection from coercive action in multiple money laundering cases, directed them to approach the Chhattisgarh High Court for interim relief.
