Warwick Davis leaves Bafta viewers in tears with tribute to his late wife Samantha
Warwick Davis has dedicated his Bafta award to his late wife who was 'always supportive' of his career.
The British actor, best known for Willow and the Harry Potter films, was responsible for one of the awards show's most touching moments.
The 2025 Baftas took place on Sunday evening (16 February) with Hollywood's brightest stars descending on London's Royal Albert Hall for the ceremony.
Davis, 55, was awarded the Fellowship prize, known as Bafta's highest honour. Previous recipients include Maggie Smith, Mike Leigh, Samantha Morton, Martin Scorsese, and Sir Sidney Poitier.
Davis was celebrated by Bafta for his career and role in creating a more inclusive industry.
Accepting the award on stage, he joked: 'This is the best thing that's ever happened to me and I've been in Star Wars.'
Becoming emotional, Davis admitted that 'life has been pretty tough' since the unexpected death of his wife Samantha last year.
Praising his late wife for 'always supporting' his career and encouraging him to go for roles, Davis joked that her desire for him to take a job corresponded to how much she wanted to buy a new handbag.
'Thank you to the support of our wonderful children, I've been able to keep engaging in life,' he said, breaking down in tears.
His children, Harrison and Annabelle, were seen in the crowd, with his daughter crying.
Tom Felton, who starred opposite Davis in Harry Potter as Draco Malfoy, presented the award, giving a heart-felt speech about the impact the actor had on his life – revealing that he had been the one to teach his first spell at Hogwarts.
'How talented, how hardworking, how loved this man is,' said Felton.
In a video montage, George Lucas and Mark Hammil were among the stars to commend the actor on his award.
Viewers at home were left wiping away tears at the emotional moment, with one person writing: 'I had no plans to cry today and yet here I am.'
Another added: 'Love Warwick Davis, good speech.'
'Oh no, Warwick Davis got me crying,' said someone else, with a fourth person agreeing: 'Warwick Davis and his kids have me BAWLING.'

The Virgin Queen was not filmed at royal residences for security reasons, she said. Ms Duff lives in north London and has a son with her former husband and Shameless co-star James McAvoy. She said she and the Prince of Wales discussed balancing work and parenting and "how we're all kind of the same". Her next guaranteed job is not until 2026 and she said she cannot talk about other projects that may pop up before then. "There's so much nonsense now, you can't even read scripts now without NDAs (non-disclosure agreements)", she said. "The streamers are like old Hollywood studios, it's like that, it's so bonkers, so you don't get to sort of enjoy the prelude to things with people – you can't say, oh my god, yeah, I'm going to be doing (this). You have to keep everything on the down-low." She laughed as she said: "I would love to tell you, Your Royal Highness, but ... " "There are snipers everywhere, that's what it feels like, seriously, the walls have ears", she added. Ms Duff said a play would be the "juiciest" next project for her because she prefers the "communion with people" in theatre, as well as the immediacy and "being in charge of the chronology". She said she discussed her preference for the stage with William. She told PA: "If a light bulb blows, we still go on. It's all of that and the jeopardy of it – when things go wrong, you become so resourceful and having each other's back as a company." You never imagine that – I think especially for people who work in the arts – you never really have a sense of what you do as having a great deal of importance or being a contribution to anything. Amateur racers go head to head in Humber Bridge Soapbox Derby
Amateur racers will compete in an annual high-speed soapbox race this Humber Bridge Soapbox Derby will take place at the Humber Bridge car park in Hessle, Hull, on Saturday from 10:00 until 15:00 by Hull 4 Heroes, the event will see teams race in homemade karts, known as "bogeys", in a bid to be crowned Hull's soapbox Claybourn, events and fundraising lead at the organisation, said: "It's a great day out for the family while supporting a local veteran charity." The annual event was first held in 2012 and returned in 2023 after a hiatus during the Covid pandemic. All funds raised from this event will go to Hull 4 Heroes - a charity that helps veterans of the British Armed Forces return to civilian life. Organisers said they were expecting 18 teams to enter the competition this year. "There are some people that have never done one before and it would be their first time entering and we've got some avid soapboxers who go across the country attending these races, so it's a nice variety," Ms Claybourn will be food stalls, live music and activities for all ages at the event, which is supported by Humber Bridge and Hessle Town Council.
