Bafta Awards 2025: From mermaidcore to gothic glamour, these are the most daring looks on the red carpet
Hollywood's brightest stars arrived in London for the 2025 Baftas – and showed off a whole load of eye-catching red carpet looks in the process. The biggest names in the film industry opted for high sartorial drama when they descended upon the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday afternoon (16 February) ahead of the ceremony. The event, which recognises the year's best films and TV shows,is always a highlight of awards season, and guests pulled out all the stops in sequinned gowns, fashion-forward tailoring and monochromatic outfits. Here are some of the most striking looks straight from the red carpet… Ariana Grande The first time Bafta nominee has been method dressing (aka, choosing outfits subtly inspired by her character) during the Wicked press tour, so it was perhaps inevitable that Ariana Grande would go for a Glinda-approved shade of pale pink. Her custom Louis Vuitton dress cleverly played with proportion, offsetting the voluminous skirt with a plunging velvet bodice. Demi Moore Was this halter neck sequinned McQueen gown Demi Moore's best outfit from her 2025 awards campaign to date? Quite possibly, yes. The star of The Substance looked both regal and fashion-forward, balancing out the bold pattern and embellishment with simple hair and make-up. Colman Domingo You can always rely on Colman Domingo to blow away the competition on the red carpet. The star of Sing Sing has carved out a reputation as one of the most stylish men in Hollywood, and his cheerily OTT Versace ensemble was a beacon of fashion fun in a sea of boring suits. We can't wait to see what he wears at the Academy Awards and at the Met Gala later this year. Camila Cabello Singer Camila Cabello resurrected the naked dress trend for 2025, wearing a blush pink corset overlaid with a gorgeously intricate diamante skirt. We can only imagine just how freezing she must have been while posing outside in the British chill. Zoe Saldaña The Emilia Perez star's Saint Laurent gown, with its feathered neckline, looked like something that a very glamorous Disney villain might pull out of their wardrobe before causing havoc (in the most complimentary sense possible). Gwendoline Christie The Game of Thrones and Star Wars actor can always be relied on to make a statement on the red carpet with a bold look, and her Bafta ensemble was no exception. Gwendoline Christie opted for gothic glamour in a high-necked black gown with lace detailing at the shoulders and witchy deconstructed sleeves. Her icy blonde, waist-length hair deserves a moment of appreciation, too. Molly-Mae Hague The UK's premier influencing powerhouse made her Bafta red carpet debut wearing a sculptural all-black gown featuring her trademark oversized sleeves. It is more of an avant-garde look than we've come to expect from the former Love Island star. Monica Barbaro It may be her first time on the awards season circuit, but A Complete Unknown star Monica Barbaro, who plays Joan Baez opposite Timothée Chalamet in the Bob Dylan biopic, has already carved out a reputation as one to watch on the red carpet. This barely-there sequinned number, with its slightly scalloped hem and wavy embellishments, makes her look like a high-fashion mermaid in the best possible way. David Tennant The former Doctor Who star is never one to shy away from bold sartorial choices. As he returned to Bafta hosting duties for the second year in a row, David Tennant opted for a long-line jacket with embellished lapels and edges, complete with a bedazzled shirt and tie. Well, it's certainly more interesting than a tuxedo... Hannah Dodd Bridgerton star Hannah Dodd added some intrigue to a classic black dress with an eye-catching bejewelled over skirt. It's a stellar look well worthy of the diamond of the season. Kelly Rutherford Gossip Girl 's Kelly Rutherford channelled her inner Lily van der Woodsen in a dramatic, sculptural black gown complete with a high-low hem and an unexpected cut-out at the waist. Somehow, the actor even managed to make black opaque tights look red carpet-worthy. Jeff Goldblum The Wicked star looked dapper in a tailcoat paired with a feather-embellished waistcoat and his signature shades. AJ Odudu You only have to look at the array of incredible outfits AJ Odudu wears to host the Big Brother live shows to know she has superb taste. For this year's Baftas, she pulled off one of her most sensational looks yet. The presenter looked like a high fashion Princess Leia in this draped, hooded white dress complete with a thigh-high split. Stacy Martin Another star bringing a touch of mermaidcore to the Royal Festival Hall was actor Stacy Martin, who looked seriously ethereal in a pale green gown dripping with sequins and embellishment. Vera Wang An upside-down bralet. Square sunglasses that could be straight out of a sci-fi film. Bared midriff. A peplum skirt. Safe to say, there was a lot going on when it came to Vera Wang's Bafta look, but the designer (who, if you needed a reminder, is 75 years old) pulled it off with her usual aplomb. Nabhaan Rizwan Kudos to Rising Star nominee Nabhaan Rizwan for going all out with this floral ensemble, which cleverly played with print. Much like Colman Domingo, he proved that formal dressing doesn't have to mean sticking to a boring formula. Coralie Fargeat The Substance director Coralie Fargeat won the award for most relatable Bafta outfit, layering a long puffa coat over her sparkling gown. Think football manager chic meets red carpet glam.

Warwick Davis leaves Bafta viewers in tears with tribute to his late wife Samantha
Warwick Davis has dedicated his Bafta award to his late wife who was 'always supportive' of his career. The British actor, best known for Willow and the Harry Potter films, was responsible for one of the awards show's most touching moments. The 2025 Baftas took place on Sunday evening (16 February) with Hollywood's brightest stars descending on London's Royal Albert Hall for the ceremony. Davis, 55, was awarded the Fellowship prize, known as Bafta's highest honour. Previous recipients include Maggie Smith, Mike Leigh, Samantha Morton, Martin Scorsese, and Sir Sidney Poitier. Davis was celebrated by Bafta for his career and role in creating a more inclusive industry. Accepting the award on stage, he joked: 'This is the best thing that's ever happened to me and I've been in Star Wars.' Becoming emotional, Davis admitted that 'life has been pretty tough' since the unexpected death of his wife Samantha last year. Praising his late wife for 'always supporting' his career and encouraging him to go for roles, Davis joked that her desire for him to take a job corresponded to how much she wanted to buy a new handbag. 'Thank you to the support of our wonderful children, I've been able to keep engaging in life,' he said, breaking down in tears. His children, Harrison and Annabelle, were seen in the crowd, with his daughter crying. Tom Felton, who starred opposite Davis in Harry Potter as Draco Malfoy, presented the award, giving a heart-felt speech about the impact the actor had on his life – revealing that he had been the one to teach his first spell at Hogwarts. 'How talented, how hardworking, how loved this man is,' said Felton. In a video montage, George Lucas and Mark Hammil were among the stars to commend the actor on his award. Viewers at home were left wiping away tears at the emotional moment, with one person writing: 'I had no plans to cry today and yet here I am.' Another added: 'Love Warwick Davis, good speech.' 'Oh no, Warwick Davis got me crying,' said someone else, with a fourth person agreeing: 'Warwick Davis and his kids have me BAWLING.'

Baftas 2025: When are they, who is hosting and how to watch
Warring Cardinals, transgender cartel bosses, troubled architects – and Bob Dylan. This year's Bafta film nominations span various genres and styles, from your typical awards season-fodder's sprawling epic (The Brutalist) to an edgy screwball caper (Anora), an over-the-top musical (Emilia Pérez, though no nod for Wicked in the top category) and, inevitably, a big-budget musical biopic (A Complete Unknown). Unlike the Golden Globes, which threw its weight behind Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist, or the Oscars, which is poised to richly reward those same two films, British cinema's most important evening has opted to choose a different favourite: Edward Berger's camp papal thriller, Conclave, which leads the pack with 12 nominations. The nominees for its bread-and-butter category of Outstanding British Film, meanwhile, include Irish-language rap comedy Kneecap, Steve McQueen's war film Blitz and Mike Leigh's darkly funny drama Hard Truths. The Baftas is traditionally a more sensible, grown-up affair than its Los Angeles-based counterparts (Ariana DeBose's catastrophic 2023 rap aside), so don't expect to see the Globes' random fact boxes about each nominee, or a random line-up of 'A-list' guest presenters. But with such a varied list of nominations, and no clear frontrunner – unlike last year, when Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer dominated every conservation – the Baftas does promise to be an evening full of surprises. Here's everything you need to know about the ceremony, and for the full list of Bafta's 2025 nominations, click here. The 2025 Baftas will be held on Sunday February 16, at London's Southbank Centre. The 2025 Baftas will be held at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. It has been the home of the awards ceremony since 2023, when Bafta ended its six-year stint at the Royal Albert Hall. Yes, the Baftas are on TV, both in the UK and US. The ceremony will be broadcast live on BBC One in the UK from 7pm, and will be available on iPlayer. In the US, it will be broadcast on BritBox. David Tennant, who also hosted the 2024 ceremony, will don his finest tux to do the honours. Only time will tell if he brings his adorable dog, Bark Ruffalo, along with him for the second year running – or if his jokes manage to land as easily as they did in 2024, when he atoned for the sins of dreadful hosts of years past (cough, Richard E Grant and Joanna Lumley) with an intelligent, down-to-earth speech and delivery. This year's ceremony will feature at least one brand new category: the Best Children's and Family Film, intended to 'celebrate the very best films appealing to inter-generational audiences'. Some surprising omissions include the box office-topping Paddington in Peru, Inside Out 2 and Moana 2 (though the latter pair are nominated in the Animated category). Some of the nominations include Richard Curtis's That Christmas, DreamWorks' wonderful The Wild Robot and Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. One highlight of each year's ceremony is the EE Rising Star Award – a shot-in-the-arm for some of British film, and Hollywood's, most exciting new acting talent. This year's nominees are as follows: Marisa Abela, Jharrel Jerome, David Jonsson, Mikey Madison and Nabhaan Rizwan. Last year's winner Mia McKenna Bruce (How to Have Sex) will next star in Claire Denis' next feature The Cry of the Guard, alongside Matt Dillon, while previous winners range from Bond star Lashana Lynch to Sex Education's Emma Mackey and Spider-Man (and future lead in Nolan's take on The Odyssey) Tom Holland. Details of this year's special guests or entertainers are yet to be announced, although the prestigious Bafta Fellowship will be awarded to actor, comedian, presenter and producer Warwick Davis, best known for his roles in the Star Wars and Harry Potter film franchises and Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's sitcom, Life is Short. He joins the esteemed likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Powell and Pressburger, Judi Dench and Samantha Morton in receiving the award.
