Ex-Wrexham and Newport defender Tozer retires
Plymouth-born Tozer made his senior debut with Swindon in 2007 before joining Newcastle a year later.He made two first-team appearances for the Magpies before joining Northampton permanently in 2011 following two loan stints with the Cobblers.Following a brief loan spell with Colchester, Tozer made the switch to Yeovil for the 2015-16 season before spending two campaigns at Newport.He featured 76 times for the Exiles, scoring four goals, before leaving Rodney Parade for Cheltenham in 2018.Tozer captained the Robins and played every minute of every league game as they won the 2020-21 League Two title.He became a real favourite in north Wales as he made 136 appearances for Wrexham, scoring seven goals and helping them secure two of their three promotions under Phil Parkinson.Tozer's final season in football saw him make 34 appearances in all competitions for Forest Green Rovers last season - with Tozer being captain in just under half of those. "I've enjoyed a lot of it, it's been hard as well," Tozer added."I've loved it. Especially the memories that I've made, what I've managed to achieve. I'm happy, I'm proud of myself."Wrexham wrote on X: "A fantastic career and wishing you the very best in your retirement."

'We had to improve the standard and that filters down. The structure behind the first team has become stronger with the formation of the academy a couple of years ago. 'We've come into this division very quickly and it's important we've brought in Championship standard players to help us on this journey. Also, to help the existing players who have do so well over the last few years.' The addition of Bangor-born Broadhead, who was in the Wrexham youth system before joining Everton at the age of 10, is the biggest statement yet the Red Dragons have made in the transfer market under their Hollywood owners. The 27-year-old has won 14 Wales caps and made 18 Premier League appearances for Ipswich last term in a season disrupted by injuries. Parkinson said: 'We've been looking at Nathan throughout the summer. 'A fee had been agreed with Ipswich for quite a long time, but they wanted to bring a player in so we had to be patient. 'He's got that Championship pedigree and the ability to create something in tight situations. 'You need players to unlock the door and create moments in games, and Nathan's got that. 'The story of him coming back home is a great one as well. He was at a great club at Ipswich but he has shown a real desire to come and play for us.' Wrexham lost their Championship opener at Southampton 2-1 last weekend, with two late Saints goals condemning them to painful defeat. Summer signing Kieffer Moore was forced off with ankle ligament damage in the second half but Parkinson provided a positive fitness update on the Wales targetman, although no date has been given for his return. He said: 'Kieffer's not as bad as we feared. With a ligament injury like that you always fear it's going to be something worse. 'But it's not a serious injury and he's making great progress.'

Mikel Arteta: Martin Odegaard deserves to be Arsenal captain ‘by a mile'
Mikel Arteta insists there is 'no question' Martin Odegaard still deserves to captain Arsenal after former skipper Tony Adams called for the Norwegian to be stripped of the armband. Adams, speaking at an Irish Independent Sport event in Dublin, demanded the Gunners boss make the change ahead of the new campaign, arguing 'proper player' Declan Rice was the man for the job. Arteta vehemently disagreed with that assessment, confirming Odegaard has the backing of everyone at the club. 'My opinion is clear,' said Arteta, 'and it's not just my opinion. It's all the staff and especially the players. 'I asked them to vote (for) the captain and I got the results yesterday. By a mile, by a big, big, by 100 miles, everybody chose the same person, Martin Odegaard, which is the most clear sign that you can have. 'It's how they feel about who has to be their captain, to defend, to improve, and win the matches that we want to win, so I think there is no question about that.' Adams, quoted in the Irish Independent, said: 'Every now and again as a manager, you have to put someone who reflects you, who reflects the football club, that you think can actually take you to the next level. 'You've got someone in there who's going to play every game all season, that's going to encourage people to come in and lay the foundations of a title-winning team. 'Declan Rice can do that, Odegaard can't. Come on Arteta, make him captain. I think he is better than Arteta. I think he's a winner. As a man, he is a proper player.' Arteta said he could talk about leadership 'for hours', but asked to summarise Odegaard's qualifications, replied: 'What matters the most is how these guys feel about who needs to lead them, how they feel comfortable, who is going to push them, who is going to give them support when it's happening.' Arsenal kick off their Premier League campaign with a trip to Manchester United, then host newly promoted Leeds before a difficult stretch that will see them play Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Newcastle. That run, agreed Arteta, could be the ideal litmus test for their capacity for winning the title this season. He said: 'Yes, especially (with) the consistency that we showed in the last three years, and now the margins, we know how small they are. We know that the competition has increased the level with recruitment, with another year together.' Arteta confirmed summer signings Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi will be fit to play on Sunday, and is optimistic Leandro Trossard will also be available. And while Arteta joked 'too many' Premier League teams have a legitimate shot at lifting the trophy, some he even suspects will 'surprise everybody', he remains more determined than ever to claim the silverware that has so far eluded him. He added: 'You keep digging, digging, digging, and you have to be digging because one day the gold is going to be there. 'You have the consistency, but now we have to do it in a season, to end with more points than any other team. That's the objective.'
