Vice Chancellor of CLDU in Haryana's Sirsa replaced 4 months after appointment
Barely four months after being appointed as the vice-chancellor of Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) in Haryana's Sirsa, Professor Narsi Ram Bishnoi was Monday replaced with Governor Bandaru Dattatraya, who is also the varsity's Chancellor, appointing Dr Vijay Kumar to the post.
In a notification, Haryana Raj Bhawan said, 'Dr Vijay Kumar, Professor of Physics, has been appointed as vice-chancellor, CDLU, Sirsa, for a period of three years or till he attains the age of 68 years whichever is earlier, with effect from the date he assumes the charge of his office. Terms and conditions of the appointment will be determined on the advice of the state government later on'.
Bishnoi had taken over as vice-chancellor of CDLU on January 25. He was previously vice chancellor of Guru Jambeshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Hisar.
Soon after taking over as V-C, Bishnoi renamed buildings at CDLU, igniting political controversy. On May 19, the multipurpose hall of the CDLU was named after Namdhari reformer Guru Ram Singh.
Two days later, the IT data and computer centre was renamed after environmental martyr Mata Amrita Devi Bishnoi. On May 23, the Student Activity Centre was named after Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar. On Sunday, CDLU announced that its information centre and guidance bureau would be named after Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal.
The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), led by Haryana's former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, had been protesting against Narsi Ram Bishnoi.
During a press conference Sunday, Digvijay Singh, JJP's state secretary general and Dushyant's younger brother, accused Bishnoi of allegedly 'exceeding his mandate'. Singh claimed that the student activity centre was originally slated to be named after Punjab's former chief minister, Parkash Singh Badal, and Dushyant Chautala had already announced it.
Singh added that the party did not have an objection to naming a building after Veer Savarkar, but it should not have been done by replacing Parkash Singh Badal's name.
'While I respect Veer Savarkar ji, but Parkash Singh Badal's contributions to the farming community and the region need to be equally respected, and cannot be ignored,' he said, and demanded that Badal's name be restored to the hall and 'Savarkar's name be assigned to another facility'.
The JJP leader also urged Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to intervene, and warned of statewide protests if corrective action was not taken.
Haryana government officials, however, told The Indian Express that it was a 'routine transfer'.

'We have also started the modernisation of the assembly library into a cutting-edge digital knowledge hub and the introduction of a comprehensive heritage conservation plan aimed at preserving the Assembly's architectural and historical legacy…collectively, these efforts, symbolise the assembly's holistic approach to progress, inclusivity, and participatory legislation,' Gupta said. The eighth Delhi assembly was constituted on February 24 following the elections in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 48 out of 70 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 22. Speaker Vijender Gupta said several people-centric initiatives had been launched in the first 100 days, including the introduction of a 'Best MLA Award' to recognise legislative performance, orientation programmes for newly elected members, and cultural events marking occasions such as the Hindu New Year and Mahavir Jayanti. Among the key infrastructure efforts is the solarisation of the Assembly building. The foundation stone for a 500 kW solar power plant was laid in the second week of May, with the aim of bringing the Assembly's estimated ₹2 crore annual electricity bill down to zero. The project, expected to be completed by the end of July, will see 3,250 square metres of rooftop space — including the Speaker's Chamber, parts of the Assembly Hall, and the gallery roofs — covered with solar panels to generate sufficient power for the entire complex.

Dakshina Kannada crackdown: Keep politics out
Two back-to-back murders in Dakshina Kannada, each laced with communal undertones, have finally jolted the government to action. Police officers are now cracking down on lumpen elements across communities – a much-needed move to restore order. The government has rightly overhauled the police top brass in Dakshina Kannada and neighbouring Udupi, signalling a firm resolve to address the escalating communal tensions. But even as law enforcement begins to act decisively, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje has chosen a troubling path. She has written to Justice N K Sudhindra Rao, chairman of the Police Complaints Authority, alleging police harassment of 'innocent' Hindu activists. A copy of the letter has also been marked to the National Human Rights fact finding committee on DK murders to submit interim report next complaint is both misplaced and misleading. As a constitutional authority, she should stand by the law, not those who flout it. The police have been doing their duty in a district teetering on the edge. For instance, Suhas Shetty whose recent murder sparked outrage was a rowdy sheeter with two murder charges against him, all booked when BJP was in power. Karandlaje's portrayal of police action as one-sided is factually incorrect. The list of anti-social elements who the police propose to extern from the district includes those from both Hindu and Muslim communities. Such interference from a union minister not only undermines the police action to restore peace but also sends dangerous signals that political patronage can shield anti-social elements from the due process of law. They should act even against those occupying top positions if they engage in hate speech or incite violence. The coastal districts need healing and that will happen only when politicians stop stoking fires, and allow the law to take its course.

BJP slams Rahul Gandhi, calls him Pakistan's spokesperson
Rahul Gandhi (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: On the day when Rahul Gandhi 's surrender barb at PM Narendra Modi became a talking point in Pakistan as lawmakers and ministers used his remarks and statements to fuel their anti-India propaganda, BJP on Thursday attacked the Congress MP for alleging that Trump forced India to accept a ceasefire on May 10, with Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan saying he is promoting Pakistan propaganda. "Rahul Gandhi is Pakistan's spokesperson. Pakistan would not acknowledge this and he would deny this. But the Congress leader's conduct is the clinching evidence," Pradhan said, adding, "This is not a conspiracy theory, nor is it motivated by partisanship. The proof is in the public domain and for everyone to see. He has been Pakistan's trumpet." Pradhan said from accusing Hindus and Hindutva of violence to lying that India surrendered to foreign pressure to suspend Operation Sindoor , Rahul has unfailingly parroted Islamabad line.
