'When we face so-called smaller teams we don't match their resilience and hunger,' said the Amakhosi striker.

Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preez believes a difference in mentality when playing in the Nedbank Cup is what has contributed to Amakhosi's success there, in contrast to another dismal campaign in the Betway Premiership.

Chiefs will play Marumo Gallants in the Premiership on Saturday at FNB Stadium, with the club still in danger of missing out on a place in the MTN8 for the second season in a row.
Chiefs close to Nedbank glory
Tunisian head coach Nasreddine Nabi has come in for the current campaign and has led Chiefs into a Nedbank Cup final, where they will play Orlando Pirates on May 10.
Chiefs won at Stellenbosch in the quarterfinals, and even beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinals, with Du Preez netting the winning goal.
Amakhosi, however, are without a win in their last five league games.
'For me the difference is our mentality, in how we approach cup games and league games,' said Du Preez on Thursday at the Kaizer Chiefs Village.
'We need to balance it and go into each game with the same mentality. We have been doing great in the cup and now we want to win silverware. (But) The main focus is not supposed to only be on cup games. We also want to win league games.
'When we go to play against Sundowns or Pirates we are motivated and want to win. But when we face so-called smaller teams we don't match their resilience and hunger.'
Du Preez has five goals in 21 appearances in all competitions for Chiefs this season, while also spending a couple of months out injured at the start of this year.
His return has seen him net twice coming off the bench, in a 1-0 league win over Magesi and most recently in that Nedbank Cup semifinal victory over Sundowns.
'An amazing feeling'
'It is what every striker would want to do coming on as a substitute,' added Du Preez.

'Against Magesi I had a few minutes from the bench and scored the winning goal and for me it is to prove week in and week out that I want to be in the starting line-up.
'Getting the winning goal (against Sundowns) in the Nedbank Cup to reach the final was an amazing feeling for us as a club and for myself. It is for me to keep pushing and help the club at the end of the day.'

Orlando Pirates to hijack Kaizer Chiefs striker target?

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are set to make some huge changes to their respective squad for next season. Chiefs are preparing for their first season in Africa with Nasreddine Nabi, while Pirates start life without Jose Riveiro. With that, it's imperative for both Soweto giants to attack the transfer market, in order to boost their squads. In previous windows it has been a common practice to see both Pirates and Chiefs in the same market. They were believed to be chasing the likes of Oswin Appollis. Furthermore, his Polokwane City teammate Thabang Matuludi, Chippa United star Sinoxolo Kwayiba too. The two clubs are also reported to be interested in Fawaaz Basadien, who Mamelodi Sundowns are eyeing too. The next player that the two clubs were thought to be battling for is Masindi Nemtajela of Marumo Gallants. But not so long ago, another player that was a hot topic for both Chiefs and Pirates was Rowan Human. Ironically links to the player have resurfaced for the player. Now another player that could enter that conversation is his ex-AmaZulu teammate Etiosa Ighodaro. The Nigerian striker was on loan to Usuthu from Mamelodi Sundowns but could be available on a free transfer now. Just last week Chiefs were credited with interest in Ighodaro again. Now according to Soccer-Laduma , Pirates have now also entered the race for his signature! 'There are local teams apart from Kaizer Chiefs who are also interested in him. I can tell you that AmaZulu FC have already contacted Sundowns and the player's representatives as they want to keep him (after the loan). And there is Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United. It's believed that they have both been in touch concerning Ighodaro. It's a matter of who comes up with the best offer,' said a source to the same publication. Bafana Bafana star wants to return to SA for Kaizer Chiefs ONLY!

Kaizer Chiefs may have been struggling in the recent past but it does not look their pull is suffering. Chiefs have failed to qualify for the MTN8 two consecutive seasons but the club still seems attractive. To be fair, the previous campaign was also significant in the sense that they finally broke their 10-year trophy drought. They did this by beating arch rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup. An impressive run in that competition saw Chiefs beat the Betway Premiership top three. Stellenbosch FC and Mamelodi Sundowns were the other victims of the run in that has earned them CAF Confederation Cup football. Competing on the African continent will give Chiefs an extra layer of attraction to players outside South African boarders. Amakhosi will be looking to make sure they use this to their best ability. They have been given an opportunity to do so immediately it seems. This as iDiski Times reports that Bafana Bafana International Mihlali Mayambela wants to come back to country to become a glamour boy. ' Aris Limassol and Bafana Bafana winger Mihlali Mayambela is open to a PSL move with Kaizer Chiefs believed to be his preferred team of choice. He has one year left on his contract with Limassol and the former Djurgårdens IF speedy winger has been linked in the past with a return home and play in the PSL, but a dream move back to the Chiefs is what could trigger him.' Wrote the publication. Mayambela has spent nine years of his career abroad. Although he has never played in South Africa, he has roots at Chiefs having played for their youth development side in the past. The winger was part of the Bafana side that won the bronze medal at the last AFCON. His trickery and speed on the wing would certainly add value and quality to the Amakhosi side should they decide to sign him. Chiefs fans, would you like to see Mayambela sign for your club ahead of next season? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Or by emailing info@ or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
