Man made "threatening remarks" about Burlington Mall at Woburn gas station, police say
Police have made contact with a man who allegedly made a threat about Burlington Mall at a Massachusetts gas station on Sunday evening.
According to Burlington Police, the man entered the BP gas station on Washington Street in Woburn at around 5:30 p.m. and made threats about the Burlington Mall.
Cashier: Man said shooting would happen at mall
"This guy just said that in about an hour or so, there's going to be someone in the Burlington Mall with an AR-15," said the gas station cashier, who asked that his name not be used for safety reasons. "When he came into the store, he didn't purchase anything at all. He just came up to me and he said that there was going to be a shooting at Burlington Mall."
The cashier said he didn't say anything back but was shocked.
"I was very confused because we get a lot of characters coming into the store," said the cashier. "Are they joking or are they for real? That's the decision that I had to make."
The cashier called police just to be safe and they searched for the suspect at the mall before it closed.
No threat at the mall
Stores at the mall closed at 6 p.m. and Burlington Police and Massachusetts State Police were at the mall as a precaution. Late Sunday night, police confirmed there is no active threat to the mall.
"It's nerve-wracking to know that my son would be in there and that somebody is saying that they're going to be coming around, shooting up," said Lynda Frisoli, who was at the mall to pick up her son from work. "That's definitely nerve-wracking for me, yes."
The suspect was described as a white middle-aged man driving a gray sedan but police confirmed late Sunday night that the search for the car has been called off.
Police said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Man rescued from Lake Michigan in Rogers Park, Chicago police say
A man had to be rescued from the waters of Lake Michigan Thursday night on the city's North Side, Chicago police said. Police said their Marine Unit responded to a call about a person in the water in the 1200-block of West Jarvis Street in the city's Rogers Park neighborhood shortly after 9:15 p.m. They were able to pull a 30-year-old man from the water at a rocky outcropping. He was taken to Prime Health Hospital for observation by the Chicago Fire Department, police said. Police did not offer any details about how the man came to be in the water or the nature of any injuries he may have sustained. No other information was available.

Ex-megachurch founder hit with $1M lawsuit claiming sexual abuse and elaborate cover-up scheme
A former Texas megachurch pastor is being sued by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted and abused her when she was 12 years old. The suit, filed this week in Dallas County District court, accuses Gateway Church founder Robert Morris and others of libel, malice, defamation, slander, failure to report, civil conspiracy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and unjust enrichment. They are seeking more than $1 million in damages. Cindy Clemishire and her father, Jerry Lee Clemishire, filed the suit less than a year after sharing the allegations with a religious watchdog blog, The Wartburg Watch. Cindy, 53, claimed she met Morris in 1981 while he was preaching at her church in Oklahoma and their families became close. She said Morris touched her inappropriately while staying at her house in 1982, and continued for the next four-and-a-half years. An Oklahoma grand jury in March indicted Morris on five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child. He is currently out on bond. In the newly filed suit, Cindy alleges Morris' wife, sons and church members attempted to cover up the abuse for financial gain, according to a report from affiliate FOX 4. "[The] defendants acted in concert, cooperated with each other and conspired to maximize their profits through their unlawful and unjust course of action to fraudulently conceal and cover up the rape of Plaintiff," according to court documents. Morris resigned in June 2024 and later filed a lawsuit against the church, stating his "highly inappropriate" relationship with a minor was not a breach of contract, and Gateway Church should fulfill its contractual financial obligations to him. Church officials said he would have received millions in deferred compensation, additional retirement benefits and a severance payment, according to the report. Gateway Church declined Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Chicago adding seven more new speed cameras in June. Here's where they will be.
Seven new speed cameras either have been or soon will be operating in Chicago this summer, as the city continues its effort to install a total of 50 new speed cameras this year. The Chicago Department of Transportation said two new speed cameras were activated on June 1 – at 1477 W. Cermak Rd, near Benito Juarez High School; and at 147 S> Desplaines St., near Francis Xavier Warde School – and have begun issuing warnings to drivers caught going at least 6 mph over the limit. Tickets will start going out on July 15. Five more speed cameras will be activated on June 15, with tickets going out starting Aug. 1: 4021 W. Belmont Ave – Aspira School 631 S. Racine Ave – Arrigo Park 216 S. Jefferson St – Heritage Green Park 8550 S. Lafayette Ave – Perspectives High School 2948 W. 47th St – Mansueto High School Speed cameras posted near schools will only enforce speed limits between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. near schools, the speed limit is 20 mph when children are present, and reverts to the posted speed limit when no children are present. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., only the posted speed limit applies. For cameras near parks, enforcement is limited to the hours that specific park is open, typically from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. During the initial warning period, drivers caught on camera going at least 6 mph over the limit will receive notices in the mail. Once enforcement begins with ticketing, drivers caught going 6-10 mph over the limit by those speed cameras will get $35 tickets in the mail, and those going 11 mph or more over the limit will get $100 tickets. The city installed 11 new speed cameras in May, and another 16 in April. In total, the city plans to install 50 new speed cameras in Chicago this year, as part of Mayor Brandon Johnson's $17 billion budget plan. Officials expect the cameras to generate $11 million in new revenue for the city. By law, the city can only install speed cameras near schools or parks, and must post signs informing drivers that they are entering a speed enforcement zone.
