Mumbai rains: Stay indoors, police tell residents as monsoon gets furious in India's financial capital
According to officials, Friday morning's intense rainstorm in Mumbai caused traffic to slow down and some Western Railway suburban train services to be affected. According to them, more showers are anticipated later in the day.
Police have urged the public to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast 'heavy to very heavy' rains beginning at 8.30 am for the next 24 hours.
With the exception of Raigad, where a 'Red' notice has been issued for Friday, the IMD has already issued an 'Orange' alert for Mumbai and all of its bordering districts.

It had issued a similar alert Thursday, but there was moderate rainfall in the city.
Continuous downpours have caused severe inconvenience to commuters, with traffic moving at a slow pace across key routes in the city.

As per a 'Monsoon Report' of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the island city, Eastern suburbs, and Western suburbs have so far received an average rainfall of 29.40 mm, 29.44 mm and 18.88 mm, respectively.
IMD's Colaba and Santacruz observatories recorded 22.4 mm and 23.9 mm rainfall, respectively.
Due to the rains since morning, with intense spells in between, vehicle movements on the city roads have slowed down.
Suburban train services on the Central Railway network were running without any problem, said officials. A few locals on the Western Railway network were running 10-15 minutes late, said WR officials.
In view of the forecast for heavy rains in Mumbai and neighbouring districts, police have urged citizens to take precautions.
'Due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai and nearby districts, citizens are advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, avoid coastal areas, and drive cautiously,' said Mumbai police on X.
'Our officials and staff are on high alert and ready to assist Mumbaikars. In case of any emergency, please dial 100 / 112 / 103,' they said.

Weather Office Predicts Thunderstorms With Rain In Delhi Today
New Delhi: The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, two notches above the season's average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Light showers were reported in parts of the city early morning, while the minimum temperature settled at 28.8 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees above normal, it added. More rains are expected today, according to weather forecasts. In an X post, Mahesh Palawat, Vice-President of private weather forecasting agency Skymet, wrote, "Delhi, get ready to be drenched in monsoon showers on July 28 and 29. The LPA (low pressure area) will move south of Delhi over the northeast." The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with rain on Monday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures predicted to hover around 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Relative humidity was recorded at 59 per cent at 5.30 pm on Sunday. The air quality was in the 'satisfactory' category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 87 at 4 pm, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.

New Delhi: The Delhi-NCR region is expected to witness rain in the remaining days of July due to an approaching low-pressure system. Though the India Meteorological Department has not issued any colour-coded warnings, it has predicted light to moderate precipitation in the capital from Monday to Wednesday, followed by scattered light showers on Thursday. "The well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh is moving towards east Rajasthan and weakened into a low-pressure area. It will change direction towards the northeast and will reach northeast Rajasthan and adjoining north Madhya Pradesh by Monday. Excess of monsoon trough will also be just south of Delhi. The Western disturbance is over Jammu Kashmir," said Mahesh Palawat, vice-president at Skymet Meteorology. Due to the combination of these systems, heavy to very heavy rain is expected over Uttarakhand and western districts of UP, northeast Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh. The Heat Index (HI) or 'feel like temperature' was recorded at 48.3 degrees Celsius at 5.30pm. The minimum temperature, however, stood at 28.8 degrees Celsius.
