FORECAST: Afternoon storms roll in ahead of weekend's cold front
FORECAST:
Another day of heat and humidity across our area with highs again in the low to mid 90s and a heat index at or above 100°.
Scattered downpours fire up again this afternoon and like the last several days will last well into the evening.
Then the changes start to come in.
A cold front arrives on Friday and while it won't really cool us down just yet, it will provide more of a focus for storms.
Best shot for heavy downpours on Friday will be on the south side of the area.
We'll still be around 90 tomorrow afternoon and still plenty humid.
Cooler air then moves in on Saturday with highs just around 80° and some light showers.
Drier air comes in by Sunday and we stay close to 80°.
Slightly warmer, but still in the 80s for the first half of next week.

Milwaukee contends with flash flooding, state fair and airport affected, with more rain expected Sunday
Excessive rainfall in Wisconsin caused flash flooding this weekend, leading to inundated roads, flooded basements and an early closure of the region's beloved state fair. Milwaukee received 5.74' of rain in just hours Saturday – a month and a half's worth of rain, setting a new daily record for the region. Flash flooding was reported in multiple areas, including basements, creeks and streets, where some vehicles were reported stranded, according to the National Weather Service. The Milwaukee River hit a record high crest of 11.19 feet. The previous record was 10.48 in July 2010. The severe weather is part of the same storm system that brought strong winds with gusts higher than 80 mph to Nebraska, where one person was killed and another was seriously injured by a large cottonwood tree that toppled onto their vehicle. The Wisconsin State Fair was forced to shut down early on the penultimate day of its 11-day run, canceling a performance by famed rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Fair organizers urged caution as they directed visitors to exit the park as safely as possible. Video from CNN affiliate WDJT shows visitors wading through waist-deep water as they made their way from the fairgrounds to the parking lot. The flooding also hit Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, where runways, taxiways and an underpass tunnel were flooded, the weather service said. Storms are continuing Sunday, with the potential for flash floods and street flooding, the National Weather Service office in Milwaukee said, urging caution on the roads. Milwaukee is under a level 2 of 4 risk for excessive rainfall Sunday and is under a flood watch. The area is forecast to pick up an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain on top of what they have already received and some isolated locations could see up to 5 inches of additional rainfall through early Monday.

Wisconsin State Fair cancels Lynyrd Skynyrd performance due to weather, posts message about refunds
The Wisconsin State Fair canceled its main stage act for Saturday, Aug. 9, due to severe weather. Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd was scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. on the Bank Five Nine Main Stage. After a few delays, the show was officially canceled around 8:15 p.m. "While we tried everything within our control to allow this show to go on, for the safety of our artists, team, and Fairgoers, we cannot host this concert," the State Fair announced in a Facebook post. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning around 8 p.m., including Milwaukee, West Allis and Wauwatosa, until 2 a.m., following a flood watch for most of southern Wisconsin earlier in the evening. Tickets for the show purchased through Etix, the official ticket provider of the Wisconsin State Fair, will be refunded in the next 7 to 14 days, the post said. Those who purchased tickets at the State Fair ticket office using cash can visit the ticket office to receive their refund between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday-Friday, the post said; original tickets and ID must be provided. Severe storms, large hail and isolated tornadoes possible in eastern Colorado Saturday
Strong to severe storms are expected across much of the Interstate 25 corridor and eastern Colorado on Saturday. A cold front moved through overnight, bringing cooler temperatures, higher moisture, and an upslope easterly flow. These ingredients will work together to help trigger storms between noon and 3 p.m., with the main severe threat from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Storms will be scattered, meaning not everyone will see one. However, any storm that does develop could be intense. Large hail up to 2 inches in diameter is possible, especially from Castle Rock south and east toward Springfield. An isolated tornado or two will be possible, mainly on the eastern plains. Right now, the greatest severe potential remains east of Denver, but it's a close call and will be monitored closely. Many visitors are in town for the Savannah Bananas game Saturday evening. Those attending should keep rain gear handy, but the severe threat in downtown Denver should end well before first pitch at 7 p.m.
