L3Harris Expanding Huntsville Solid Rocket Motor Facility, Poised for Further Growth

Business Wirea day ago
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) hosted local and state leaders and customers today to showcase its newest Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) production facility known as Advanced Manufacturing Facility – South (AMF-South). The site, the size of more than six football fields, is designed and equipped to support surging production demands and emerging missile defense needs, including President Donald Trump's Golden Dome.
'Solid rocket motors remain essential to the vast majority of critical defense programs that protect our communities, military and allies,' said Ken Bedingfield, President, Aerojet Rocketdyne, L3Harris. 'Our growth in Huntsville represents another significant investment we are making to boost production capacity of critical components, and we're proud that they are being made in Alabama.'
AMF-South features 379,000 square feet of space and specializes in manufacturing inert SRM components like nozzles, exit cones, aft closures and cases. L3Harris invested more than $20 million in renovations to support the facility, which is designed to be scalable, efficient and highly flexible. AMF-South features equipment like hydraulic presses, autoclaves, tape-wrap systems and composite machining that will help deliver high-quality inert components faster and with greater precision. The company's Title III Defense Production Act cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense helped to fund additional equipment and tooling purchases.
AMF-South is currently supporting programs such as the Standard Missile, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System and Javelin, with plans to support additional programs. Expansion efforts have already resulted in approximately 40 new jobs for the area, and the company expects to create more than 100 additional jobs to support operations at the site over the next few years.
'L3Harris' continued growth in Huntsville is a testament to Alabama's leadership in defense and aerospace innovation,' said Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey. 'The opening of this advanced manufacturing facility strengthens our state's role in supporting critical national security programs and brings high-quality jobs to North Alabama. I commend L3Harris for its commitment to investing in our workforce and fueling the next chapter of growth in the Rocket City.'
'This state-of-the-art defense manufacturing facility, spanning an impressive area equivalent to 6.5 football fields, is a testament to our state's commitment to innovation and progress to support our warfighters,' said Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala. 'L3Harris' ongoing expansion is not only creating jobs but also reinforcing Huntsville as a leader in advanced manufacturing. I look forward to the incredible opportunities this facility will bring to Huntsville and the state of Alabama.'
'I am proud to see L3Harris expanding its solid rocket motor production right here in North Alabama,' said Rep. Dale Strong, R-Ala. 'This investment not only strengthens our region's role in supporting critical defense programs but also creates high-quality jobs for our residents. I look forward to seeing this facility grow and thrive in the years ahead as it drives innovation to help keep our nation safe.'
'Huntsville's dynamic business climate is centered on workforce and technology, and this L3Harris state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility is at the intersection of those priorities,' said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle. 'With this new facility, L3Harris will continue its commitment to innovation and excellence by developing the latest technologies in inert manufacturing for solid rocket motors to support critical defense programs designed to protect our nation. Congratulations, and thank you for being an excellent community partner.'
L3Harris' expanded AMF-South facility complements the existing 136,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Facility – North in Huntsville, which opened in 2019.

Mizuho Lifts Occidental (OXY) Price Target but Holds Neutral Rating

Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) is one of the 12 Best American Energy Stocks to Buy Right Now. On July 14, Mizuho increased its price target for Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) from $58 to $65 and kept a Neutral rating on the stock. Mizuho expects the company to miss the consensus EBITDA estimates by about 8% in Q2 2025. This miss is attributed to the front-weighted capital spending, which significantly impacted free cash flow. Mizuho projects the free cash flow to be about 53% below street expectations. Oil derricks in the background with a few workers in the foreground, emphasizing the company's oil and gas production activities. According to Mizuho's review of Occidental Petroleum Corporation's (NYSE:OXY) recent 8-K filing, the company is seeing a slight impact on oil volumes in the Gulf of America, some strength in oil and liquids pricing, and weakness in US natural gas realizations. The firm attributed the expected miss in free cash flow primarily to heavy spending during the quarter, with about 55% of the 2025 budget allocated to the first half of the year. Based on the previous commentary by the company's management, Mizuho believes these headwinds are not expected to continue into the second half of 2025. China's export growth likely slowed in July as US tariff deadline looms: Reuters poll

BEIJING (Reuters) -China's export growth probably slowed in July, as manufacturers await clarity on whether Beijing can reach a deal with its top consumer market, the United States, or if President Donald Trump will reinstate additional tariffs on Chinese goods. Outbound shipments were expected to have risen an annual 5.4% in value terms, according to the median forecast of 34 economists in a Reuters poll, down from a 5.8% increase in June. Imports likely shrank 1.0%, reversing a 1.1% rise previously, with domestic demand still in the doldrums amid a protracted property crisis that has consumers tightening their purse strings. Trump's erratic trade policy - marked by multiple rounds of tit-for-tat tariff hikes with Beijing - has heaped pressure on China's export-oriented economy, posing a serious test to its long-standing growth model. China is facing an August 12 deadline to reach a durable tariff agreement with the U.S. administration, after Beijing and Washington reached framework agreements in May and June to reduce non-tariff barriers such as in rare earth minerals and technology to avoid further escalating their trade war. Without a deal, global supply chains could face renewed turmoil from U.S. duties snapping back to triple-digit levels that would amount to a bilateral trade embargo. Trump said on Tuesday the U.S. was close to a trade deal with China and that he would meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping before the end of the year if the world's two largest economies could come to an agreement. China's July trade surplus is forecast to narrow to $105 billion from $114.77 billion in June. Separate data from the U.S. Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis on Tuesday showed that the U.S.'s trade gap with China shrank to its lowest in more than 21 years in June. Chinese government advisers are stepping up calls to make the household sector's contribution to broader economic growth a top priority at Beijing's upcoming five-year policy plan, as trade tensions and deflation threaten the outlook. And top leaders have vowed to step up regulation of aggressive price-cutting by Chinese companies that is pushing prices ever lower. But economists warn that reversing the current deflationary slump will be far more difficult than during the last round of supply-side reforms a decade ago, as the downturn now poses a broader threat to employment, which Chinese leaders have emphasised is a core component of social stability. Reaching an agreement with the United States — and with the European Union, which has accused China of producing and selling goods too cheaply — would give Chinese officials more room to advance their reform agenda. However, analysts expect little relief from Western trade pressures. Export growth is projected to slow sharply in the second half of the year, hurt by persistently high tariffs, President Trump's renewed crackdown on the rerouting of Chinese shipments and deteriorating relations with the EU.
