‘Elio' Has a Bizarre Post-Credits Scene That's Not About ‘Elio' at All
If you forgot to stick around for the post-credits scenes tacked onto the end of Elio, this past weekend's Pixar release teased two things. And if you haven't seen it—what are you doing here? Kidding, we welcome the curious as we break down the unexpected scenes between the potential Elio spin-off Easter egg and a glimpse of Hoppers, Pixar's next original concept film.First, we see Elio and his new friend, Bryce, reconnect with Glordon using their prototypical intergalactic radio, leaving things open for more adorable sci-fi adventures. Unfortunately, the film has been underperforming, but we hope it gets legs as the run continues in theaters and eventually at home, so we get more stories in Elio's universe. We miss Glordon and need to see the trio in more space travel hijinks.
The next post-credits glimpse previews Hoppers, totally out of the blue for the studio which doesn't usually do sizzle scenes like that. We'd much rather have the short films that used to screen in front of Pixar releases back! Hoppers, due out next year, is another original Pixar IP, which might also be affected by how Elio and Pixar's other non-sequel movies have been doing.
In the tease we see a big-eyed lizard sitting atop a phone pressing the lizard emoji in a text over and over again. The head-scratcher of a clip is unsettling and funny, but maybe not enough to get the hype it's aiming for. All we know so far about Hoppers is that scientists have figured out how to transfer human consciousness into lifelike animal robots to communicate with other species. Think Avatar but with wildlife, a high-concept idea we're definitely intrigued by.
Alas, the internet's loud demand for original movies still isn't paying off with ticket sales, at least not in this case, so who knows what the future of Pixar originals will look like. Elio deserves a shot and it's such a bummer the film is having challenges drawing crowds to the cinemas. Meanwhile, Disney has begun to pivot back to properties with proven track records; as just one example, Toy Story 5 is due out next summer.

'Through intimate interviews and an extensive collection of never-before-seen photos and home movies, she grapples with her mother's complicated public and private legacy, uncovering the surprising layers and depth of who Jayne was, not only to her fans, but also to those closest to her.' Warner Bros. Discovery announced in early June that My Mom Jayne will begin streaming on Friday, June 27, on Max and will air on HBO linear that evening from 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT. As she explores the complexities behind who Jayne Mansfield was in public, she reckons with the persona that Jayne created, but was later desperate to escape.' Per Max, Mariska Hargitay interviews her siblings Jayne Marie Mansfield, Mickey Hargitay, Jr., Zoltan Hargitay and Tony Cimber for My Mom Jayne. NIST releases preliminary findings into 2021 Champlain Towers Collapse
The National Institute of Standards and Technology's National Construction Safety Team (NIST) has released a 90-minute video update on its investigation into the June 2021 partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South building in Surfside. Investigation leads Judith Mitrani-Reiser and Glenn Bell outline progress, preliminary findings and collapse hypotheses in the video. Higher-likelihood hypotheses Mitrani-Reiser said the team has identified several design and construction issues that weakened the building, including understrength structural design and misplaced steel reinforcement in the pool deck, which had low safety margins. Bell noted heavy planters, added sand, pavers and corrosion of steel reinforcement further diminished the pool deck's strength, making its failure a higher-likelihood scenario. The team also considered tower-related issues, such as water-damaged basement columns or a slab-beam-column joint failure, as plausible causes, Bell said. Lower-likelihood scenarios The team found no evidence of karst voids or pile failure beneath the building, Mitrani-Reiser said, citing satellite data showing no ground settling and tests confirming adequate pile strength. Bell also described the separation of the pool deck from the south basement wall as a lower-likelihood scenario. The investigation relies on physical evidence, imagery, witness interviews and audio-video analysis, Mitrani-Reiser said, noting a novel soundwave comparison technique helped refine the collapse timeline. The team expects to complete its report in 2026, Bell said.

SpaceX's private crewed launch to ISS is finally about to happen
Following a series of delays, SpaceX, Axiom Space, and NASA are now targeting 2:31 a.m. ET on Wednesday, June 25, (11:31 p.m. PT on Tuesday, June 24) for the launch of Axiom Space's fourth private astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The new schedule was announced on Monday night. The Ax-4 mission will lift off from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with the four-person crew traveling on a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft after launching on a Falcon 9 rocket. Recommended Videos The Crew Dragon is expected to dock with the orbital outpost at about 7 a.m. ET (4 a.m. PT) on Thursday, June 26. The Ax-4 crew comprises Commander Peggy Whitson, a veteran NASA astronaut and Axiom Space's director of human spaceflight; Shubhanshu Shukla from the Indian Space Research Organisation, making his first spaceflight; Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, a European Space Agency project astronaut from Poland and on his first trip to space; and Tibor Kapu, representing the Hungarian Space Office, also on his first orbital voyage. The mission will last about 10 days, during which time the crew will live and work alongside the current ISS inhabitants. To find out more about daily life on the space station, check out these videos made by visiting astronauts over the years. A number of issues have prevented the Ax-4 mission from getting underway earlier. The launch was first targeted for June 10 but inclement weather forced a delay. June 11 also presented a launch opportunity, but the discovery of a liquid oxygen leak in the Falcon 9 booster prompted engineers to scrub the plan. A launch effort for June 19 was also called off after a leak was discovered in the Zvezda service module at the ISS. A new target date of June 22 was set, but this was also called off to give the mission team more time to evaluate space station operations. Officials are now satisfied that everything is in order, and so the launch can finally take place. Interested in watching the launch and initial stages of the Ax-4 mission?
