Lydian Energy Secures $233M in Project Financing to Advance Battery Storage Projects Across Texas
ING served as the lender for the Pintail and Crane projects, located in San Patricio and Crane Counties, Texas, respectively. The two systems, each sized at 200 MW/400 MWh, represent a combined investment of approximately $139 million.
KeyBank provided a $94 million financing package for Headcamp, a 150 MW/300 MWh project in Pecos County. KeyBanc Capital Markets also structured the financing package for Headcamp.
All three projects are developed under Excelsior Energy Capital's Fund II, which recently closed at more than $1 billion, and advance Lydian's strategy to deliver reliable, affordable renewable energy that strengthens grid performance in key power markets, such as Texas. The facilities are currently under construction and expected to be placed in service in Q4 2025.
'This financing marks an important step forward as we continue executing on our vision to scale transformative battery storage projects that meet the evolving energy needs of the communities we serve,' said Emre Ersenkal, CEO at Lydian Energy.
'We are happy to have the support of ING and KeyBank, which recognize both the value of battery storage in today's grid and the capabilities of our development and delivery platform. We are proud to partner with these leading financial institutions to help deliver the next generation of clean and reliable power in Texas,' said Basilio Guerrero, CFO at Lydian Energy.
The commitments of ING and KeyBank underscore growing institutional confidence in battery storage as a strategic asset class leading the energy transition.
'Our support of Lydian's portfolio reflects ING's focus on identifying strategic funding opportunities that align with the accelerating demand for sustainable power,' said Sven Wellock, Managing Director and Head of Energy – Renewables & Power at ING. 'Battery storage plays a central role in supporting grid resilience, and we're pleased to back a platform with strong fundamentals and a clear execution path.'
'Lydian Energy's development of Headcamp reflects the type of forward-looking energy infrastructure we aim to support through strategic financing,' said Tyler Nielsen, Managing Director, Utilities Power and Renewables Group at KeyBanc Capital Markets. 'Our team is thrilled to support Excelsior Energy Capital as they continue to deliver strategic, future-ready investments and projects that are increasingly vital as energy demand and system complexity continue to rise.'
The tax credit bridge financings from ING and KeyBank are being complemented by co-investment capital from Excelsior's Fund II limited partners. Lydian is actively pursuing additional financing for a broader pipeline of projects expected to start construction later this year.
'These financings represent more than capital – they reflect the strong demand for reliable energy infrastructure in high-growth U.S. markets,' said Anne Marie Denman, Co-Founding Partner at Excelsior Energy Capital and Chair of the Board at Lydian Energy. 'We're proud to stand behind Lydian's talented team as they deliver on the promise of battery storage with bankable projects, proven partners, and disciplined execution. In the midst of a lot of noise, these financings are a reminder that capital flows where infrastructure is satisfying fundamental needs of our society – in this case, the need for reliable, sustainable, domestic, and affordable energy.'
Lydian's current portfolio includes 20 solar and storage projects totaling 4.7 GW of capacity. The company continues to work alongside banking, regulatory, and community stakeholders to deliver scalable infrastructure aligned with regional needs and policy objectives.

Sterling nudges higher against dollar, inflation data in focus
By Jaspreet Kalra (Reuters) -Sterling tracked the euro higher against the dollar on Tuesday as markets gauged the probability of a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine following encouraging diplomatic signals from a White House meeting with European leaders. Sterling was up 0.1% at $1.3515 on the day amid largely muted moves in foreign exchange markets. Against the euro, sterling was flat at 86.34 pence to the common currency. U.S. President Donald Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Monday that Washington would help guarantee Ukraine's security in any peace deal to end Russia's war there. "While the path to peace in Ukraine appears somewhat clearer following last Friday's and Monday's summits, markets remain cautious. This is understandable, given that the most challenging negotiations – particularly over territorial issues – are still ahead of us," Francesco Pesole, FX Strategist at ING said in a note. Earlier in the month, a hawkish repricing of the Bank of England's monetary policy trajectory supported sterling alongside a run of strong economic data. The focus now is switching to U.K. consumer price inflation data due on Wednesday. Analysts at ING expect both headline and services inflation to have accelerated in July, to 3.7% and 4.8%, respectively. An acceleration in inflation could slow the pace of interest rate cuts by the Bank of England, though recent weakness in Britain's labour market complicates the outlook. "What we're going to look at in the UK is really the labour market which is kind of telling you that the BoE has room to cut. The second thing we'll watch in the UK is inflation which kind of tells you that the BoE should not cut," aid Samy Chaar, chief economist at Lombard Odier. The dollar was steady against a basket of major peers as markets awaited policy cues from the Federal Reserve's annual Jackson Hole symposium later this week. UK job vacancies fall at a slower pace while wage growth holds steady
The decline in payroll employment in the UK eased in July, with employers cutting headcount by 8,000, compared to a month-on-month drop of 26,000 in June. July's figure marks the smallest decline in headcount since a modest rise in January, offering a glimmer of hope for the sluggish UK job market. The early estimate of payrolled employees for July 2025 decreased by 164,000 on the year, added the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Tuesday's data 'tallies with some of the business surveys which suggest hiring appetite has begun to improve after a torrid spring', said James Smith, developed market economist at ING. 'The combination of National Insurance (payroll tax) hikes and a sizeable increase in the National Living Wage in April had become a major headwind, particularly in consumer services.' The ONS also announced on Tuesday that the unemployment rate held steady in April to June at 4.7%, a four-year high. Annual wage growth excluding bonuses held steady at 5.0% in the three months to June, while this average in the private-sector eased slightly to 4.8% from 4.9%. Related Struggling to find work? UK sees more jobseekers and fewer vacancies BoE chief says collaboration is key to solving economic imbalances 'Although pay growth has slowed, it's now pretty static, and is still outstripping inflation, so there's a risk that firms will pass on heavier costs as higher prices,' said Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets at Hargreaves Lansdown. She added: 'Bank of England policymakers struck a more cautious tone than expected at the last meeting when it comes to future policy, and this jobs snapshot doesn't change the overall picture too much. It's touch and go as to whether there will be a cut in November but December is looking a bit more likely.' The fresh data comes after the Bank of England cut its key interest rate last week to 4%, the lowest level since March 2023. Vacancies are below pre-Covid levels in virtually all sectors now, highlighting the weakness of the labour market, although price pressures remain a risk to the economy. The number of job vacancies fell by 44,000 to 718,000 between May and July. 'The Bank faces a fine balancing act,' said Richard Carter, head of fixed interest research at Quilter Cheviot. 'Inflation remains at 3.6%, fuelled by housing and transport costs, but signs of slack in the labour market are becoming harder to ignore. With the MPC split on the pace of easing, these latest numbers could tip the balance towards further cuts to shore up the economy." Sign in to access your portfolio
