'You're able to play through some things and sometimes the ref will call it quick and give you yellows and stuff like that but you have to be smart. It'll be chippy on both sides and we expect that.'

Dynamo earn draw with Whitecaps in Thomas Muller's MLS debut
(Photo credit: Simon Fearn-Imagn Images) Jose Artur scored in second-half stoppage time, giving the Houston Dynamo a 1-1 draw with the host Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday night and tempering the MLS debut of Thomas Muller. Brian White scored on a penalty kick in the sixth minute for the Whitecaps (13-6-7, 46 points). The Dynamo (7-11-8, 29 points), who lost 3-0 at home to Vancouver on July 16, tied it in the opening seconds of stoppage time. Lawrence Ennali dribbled the ball down the left wing and sent a pass back to Amine Bassi at the top corner of the 18-yard box. Bassi spotted Artur joining the play and dropped a pass for him to unleash a shot from 25 yards that made its way through a maze of players and just out of the reach of diving goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka and inside the left post. Muller, the 35-year-old German superstar who scored 250 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich over 17 seasons, received a standing ovation from Vancouver's fans when he came on as a substitute in the 61st minute. Muller sent the crowd into a frenzy less than two minutes later when he appeared to score on a half-volley from 20 yards, but White was ruled to be offside on the initial pass into the penalty area and the goal was disallowed. White's goal came after Jayden Nelson was tripped by Houston's Griffin Dorsey while driving the end line on the left wing. White put the ensuing penalty into the middle of the net as Dynamo goalie Jonathan Bond dove to his right. Houston nearly got the equalizer in the 15th minute. Jack McGlynn played a short corner kick from the right wing, got the ball back and whipped a cross to the far post. The ball deflected off defender Mathias Laborda and Takaoka had to make a kick save to avoid an own goal. The Whitecaps nearly doubled their advantage in the closing minutes of the first half. First, Nelson hit the left post in the 45th minute on a sliding attempt after Edier Ocampo's low cross from the right wing on a counterattack. In stoppage time, Bond made a diving save on a 12-yard shot by White and Emmanuel Sabbi's rebound attempt from 15 yards grazed the top of the crossbar on its way into the stands.

Green birdies final hole to win Rogers Charity Classic by one shot
Richard Green birdied the par five, finishing hole of the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club on Sunday to win the 2025 Rogers Charity Classic. After reaching the 18th green in two, Green two putted for his first-ever PGA Tour Champions event victory in his 71st career start. The 54-year-old Australian had six birdies and one bogey during his round of five-under 65 to finish the tournament at 18 under. Green had five runner-up finishes last year, including at the 2024 edition of the Rogers Charity Classic. Playing in the group in front of Green, Ricardo Gonzales also birdied the final hole to end the three-day event in second spot at 17 under. Gonzales finished his round of five-under 65 on Sunday with four birdies in his final five holes to pull into a tie with Green. The 55-year-old Argentine then watched from the side of the 18th green as Green lagged his lengthy putt to within two feet before making no mistake to take home the title. Charles Schwab Cup money list leader Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain also birdied the final hole of the par 70, 7,092-yard layout for a round of 68 that left him alone in third spot at 16 under. Charlie Wi carded a round of six-under 64 to finish the tournament in fourth at 15 under, while Mark Hensby, Steve Alker, Matt Gogel and Tommy Gainey all ended up in a tie for fifth one shot back of Wi. Although he had a round of one over 71 on Sunday, Calgary's Wes Martin still finished as the top Canadian at four under, which put him in a four-way tie for 38th place. 'It's a little disappointing with the way it ended today,' said Martin, who earned the right to play at his first-ever PGA Tour Champions event by carding an impressive round of nine-under 62 at the final tournament qualifier last Tuesday at Highwood Golf and Country Club in High River, Alta. 'I would have liked to shoot under par today.' Martin's round featured four bogeys to go with one birdie and an eagle on the par five, 11th hole. 'I had a perfect number into the green, hit utility, and then it was just a sidewinder putt that happened to go,' said Martin, who estimated he drained the putt from about 25 feet out. After shooting 70 and 69 in the first two rounds, Mike Weir of Bright's Grove, Ont., continued to improve with a two-under 68 on Sunday to finish the event in a six-way tie for 42nd place at three under. German soccer star Thomas Muller set for debut with Vancouver Whitecaps
Thomas Muller is set to make his debut for the Vancouver Whitecaps tonight. Hundreds of fans lined Terry Fox Plaza outside of B.C. Place, awaiting the German soccer star's arrival ahead of Vancouver's MLS match against the Houston Dynamo. Many in the crowd were clad in crisp new Whitecaps jerseys emblazoned with Muller's No. 13, while others wore the kit of his former club, Bayern Munich. At least two people wore lederhosen, a nod to the 35-year-old attacking midfielder's Bavarian roots, and several German flags lined the barriers. Muller signed with the Whitecaps earlier this month following 17 seasons with Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga where he scored 250 goals across all competitions and helped the club to 33 titles, including 13 league championships. He's also excelled in international play, winning the 2014 World Cup with Germany and taking home the Golden Boot from the 2010 World Cup after notching five goals and three assists.
