Billionaire island of Bezos & Kushner fights over sewage

INDIAN CREEK VILLAGE, FLORIDA: On a man-made island north of Miami, the titans of various industries have found their refuge.
Jeff Bezos
, the
Amazon
founder, has collected a trio of properties along the same shoreline as the football legend Tom Brady and President Trump's daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.
A community of only a few dozen homes, the latest of which sold for $110 million as a vacant lot, Indian Creek Village has emerged as the US' premier enclave for billionaires willing to pay any price to achieve the pinnacle of privacy, security and luxury.
A gated bridge blocks the public from access, and a police force uses cameras and radar to monitor anyone who approaches. But one amenity of modern life has remained surprisingly elusive.
In a place where many of the estates have more than 10 toilets, nobody has quite figured out how to dispose of what comes out of them.
Septic systems along the shores of Biscayne Bay have for decades been a source of pollution. Indian Creek, known as the "Billionaire Bunker," finally came up with a plan to get rid of the septic tanks and export the island's waste through the sewer pipes of the neighbouring town, Surfside. But to Indian Creek's surprise, Surfside wanted $10 million for the privilege.

Officials there contended the fee was a contribution to the historical cost of a system that Surfside created and maintained. Indian Creek leaders called it extortion. Quietly, they went to the state Capitol. In the battle between the island billionaires and the neighbouring millionaires, Indian Creek is on the cusp of prevailing. Buried deep in a large transportation bill approved by the state legislature is a new legal measure prohibiting municipalities from blocking or charging for the installation of certain sewer lines - like the one Indian Creek wants to build.
The bill, which would force Surfside to accept its neighbour's sewage, is now headed to the state's Republican governor, Ron DeSantis.
Indian Creek's village council is filled with major Republican political allies. One of them is Kushner, who was quietly appointed to the council last year. In his earlier political life, Kushner played a critical White House role. His agenda now features discussions about municipal contracts and mutual aid agreements.

‘Manxho' takes NE's smoked meat tradition to masses

Dibrugarh: What began as a passion project by three entrepreneurs from Khowang, a remote village in Dibrugarh, has blossomed into a remarkable success story within India's food sector. 'Manxho', a meat delivery startup founded by Jitu Bora, Diganta Saikia and Vardhan Saikia, has effectively commercialised traditional smoked meats and pioneered their distribution throughout India, introducing the rich, smoky flavours of Assam to dinner tables nationwide. Founded shortly after the Covid pandemic in 2020, 'Manxho' (meaning 'meat' in the local language) was established with the vision of standardizing and preserving the northeast's age-old smoked meat traditions. For many years, smoked pork and other meats were produced in small batches, enjoyed locally, and seldom found outside the region. "Smoked meat is a cultural heritage in Assam and the northeast. We aimed to make these flavours available to everyone, while ensuring hygiene, taste and authenticity," said Bora. Their hard work yielded impressive results. In 2022, 'Manxho' was honoured with the prestigious 'Son of the Soil Awards Assam,' presented by Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Dibrugarh, recognizing their successful rural startup story. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The brand's innovation continued with the recent launch of a line of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat products. "Our RTE range is revolutionary. Whether you're a student, traveller, or someone in a remote area with limited cold storage, you can now savour authentic Assamese meat dishes at any time, from anywhere," Bora said. What distinguishes 'Manxho' is its blending of tradition with technology. Their product offerings — including smoked pork, smoked chicken, smoked fish, smoked duck and tribal-inspired spice blends and pickles like Bhoot Jolokia pickle, smoked pork pickle and axone pickle — are sourced, aiding local farmers and safeguarding regional recipes.

Surat police uncover cryptocurrency trail in cross-border cyber scam

Surat: In a major breakthrough, the Surat Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has unearthed an international cybercrime racket with suspected links to China, Pakistan, and Myanmar. The operation came to light after a raid at a hotel in the Mahidharpura area, where two youths from Jodhpur were arrested. The accused — Ramswarup Bishnoi and Sagar Bishnoi, both 20 — were staying in Room 409 of Janta Inn Hotel near Surat railway station. Acting on a tip-off, DCB officials detained them and seized eight mobile phones, bank account kits, SIM cards, Aadhaar cards, diaries, and other suspicious documents. Preliminary investigation revealed financial transactions amounting to several crores of rupees, including large sums in cryptocurrency (USDT). Police said the duo had travelled to Surat to procure bank account kits to be used in fraudulent online operations. An FIR has been lodged against six people — five from Jodhpur and one from Surat. Analysis of the seized mobile phones revealed each device contained up to 19 email IDs linked to various bank accounts and transactional records. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Several banking applications were installed and investigators found statements pointing to transactions running into crores. Accounts were found to be associated with several banks, including City Union Bank, Northeast Small Finance Bank, Federal Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, and Ujjivan Small Finance Bank. Cryptocurrency wallets linked to high-value USDT transactions were also recovered. Police said digital evidence suggested coordination with international cybercrime syndicates operating through Telegram channels. One such group, named 'Bookkeeping Robot Ram,' was allegedly used by the network to share bank account details. According to investigators, the accused came in contact with the key conspirator, Pramod Bishnoi of Jodhpur, in Feb 2025. Pramod reportedly lured them with the promise of high returns in cryptocurrency trading and introduced them to Sanjay Gabu, a Surat-based contact who allegedly sold them 193 bank accounts. The accused then forwarded the bank kits and MPINs to Gnan Bishnoi and Shyam Bishnoi in Jodhpur, who uploaded the details to the Telegram group operated by Chinese handlers. Once money was deposited in the accounts, it was withdrawn and routed to Jodhpur via courier Vishnu Angadiya. The amount was then converted into cryptocurrency and transferred abroad using the Binance app. DCB officials have also raided multiple locations in Surat and detained additional suspects. BOX Levis-Jack and Jones products found In addition to digital evidence, DCB officials also seized branded merchandise including shoes, jeans, t-shirts, shirts, and bags from labels such as Levi's and Jack & Jones. A total of 68 articles valued at approximately Rs 2.28 lakh were confiscated. According to police, the accused admitted to purchasing these items from malls and retail outlets in Surat. They would allegedly damage the products and then contact the respective companies to claim refunds. Instead of returning the items, the accused would retain them and sell them for profit after securing the refund.
