Coachella 2025 draws Fyre Festival comparisons as concertgoers face 12 hour wait times
Coachella 2025 is underway, and long wait lines are causing chaos as campers and concertgoers descend on the California desert, drawing comparisons to the infamous Fyre Festival.
While many Coachella festivalgoers who are camping outdoors are already on the grounds, car campers described massive traffic wait times — upwards of 12 hours — in entering festival grounds and arriving to a spot to set up. The desert music festival's first weekend kicks off Friday and goes to Sunday.
One social media user took to TikTok saying that they're "starting to think it's Fyre Festival," the infamous 2017 music festival held in the Bahamas where festivalgoers experienced a host of logistical issues.
Fyre Festival was the brainchild of businessman Billy McFarland, who was later convicted of fraud and became the subject of two popular documentaries in 2019: "Fyre Fraud" on Hulu and Netflix's "Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened."

Other festivalgoers said it was a "disaster," with one TikTok showing a random person starting to direct traffic. Other Coachella car campers took to social media to explain their situation as one wrote that they were going to "run out of gas" if there wasn't a fix.
In 2018, McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison for engaging in several fraudulent schemes related to Fyre Festival. After his arrest, he acknowledged that he had defrauded investors out of $26 million and more than $100,000 in fraudulent ticket-selling schemes.
Is Fyre Festival 2 happening? 2 months out, lineup remains unseen, event changes location
This year, McFarland is making a second attempt at the scandal-ridden 2017 festival as he mounts comeback from May 30 to June 2 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, a recent change from the festival's initially promoted location of Isla Mujeres, Mexico. The location announcement was shared on Fyre Festival's social media on March 21, just 70 days before the festival's first day.
But issues loom large as McFarland attempts a comeback with an unseen lineup and logistical shifts. And some on social media are proclaiming that perhaps Coachella's first weekend may have beaten him to the punch with the traffic concerns.
Fans who are choosing not to brave the desert heart can watch Coachella performances on YouTube. The streams are scheduled to start on April 11 at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT. Fans will be able to watch multiple stages from their coach simultaneously, while a vertical live stream option featuring DJ sets will also be available.
Some of music's biggest stars and acts are scheduled to grace the stages, including Lady Gaga, Vintage Culture, Travis Scott, Charli XCX, Post Malone and more. The first weekend's events will run from April 11 to 13.
The official venue opens at 1 p.m. Friday through Sunday, with general parking opening at 11 a.m. Several sets are scheduled to begin at either 1 p.m. or during that hour.

File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo June 9 (UPI) -- Netflix released a trailer for Tyler Perry's Madea's Destination Wedding, marking the writer, director and actor's 13th cinematic outing as the iconic matriarch. The film, which debuts July 11, is Perry's second Madea film to be released in creative partnership with Netflix. The 13th installment in the film franchise sees Perry's Madea traveling to the Bahamas with her family to celebrate the surprise wedding of her nephew's daughter, Tiffany (Diamond White), to a rapper she met on a yacht. "It's been 20 years now since Diary of a Mad Black Woman came out," Perry told Netflix. "To see that this character is still enduring, and people are still watching and enjoying and laughing, it's really mind-blowing to me." Perry, who plays multiple roles in the film, said returning to Madea is a form of comfort. "I keep coming back because some of this is just escapism," he said. "Just let's leave the world behind for a moment and come to Madea's house, and have some good food and laugh, and cry and celebrate and be all of those things." Tyler Perry's Madea's Destination Wedding also stars Cassi Davis Patton, David Mann, Tamela Mann, Taja V. Simpson, Jermaine Harris and Xavier Smalls. Moment Woman Realizes Pug Has Been 'Emotionally Manipulating' Her
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman concerned her dog may be sick decided to give him the ultimate test to make sure he wasn't "manipulating" her. Turns out, he was. Maia McCann lives in New York with her pug, Smokey, who has developed a taste for the finer things in life. McCann, who works in the media industry, told Newsweek: "Smokey is 11. I've raised him in the city and I think he's really grown fond of New York's café culture and seems to think that he should get a pastry on every walk!" In a clip to her TikTok page @smokeyandmaia on March 28, McCann held Smokey up to the camera and declared she was about to play a game: "Is Smokey sick, or is he emotionally manipulating me so that I'll take him for cheesy bread?" She explained the pug had refused to eat breakfast, but had recently been tricking her in order to get the food he really wants. So, before taking him to the vet, she put him to the test, and walked with him down the street towards their regular café—and the closer they got, the more Smokey pulled on the leash. "It is looking pretty likely Smokey was faking sick to emotionally manipulate me into going and getting him a cheesy bread," McCann said as they got closer to the café. And once inside, Smokey began licking his lips in anticipation—and eagerly snapped up the treat. "It is such a miracle that you made a full recovery," she said sarcastically as Smokey tucked in. "We must have discovered the cure for the cheesy bread disease, thank goodness. "Didn't even have to pay the vet to tell me you're just smarter than you look sometimes." In a caption to the video, McCann described this manipulation as "the only trick Smokey knows." TikTok users had a big reaction, awarding the video more than 270,000 likes, as one commenter joked Smokey was saying: "I guess I'll try and force down a little cheesy bread to settle my stomach." "He was sick," another wrote. "Of not having cheesy bread." Maia McCann holds Smokey to the camera before checking whether he really has no appetite. Maia McCann holds Smokey to the camera before checking whether he really has no appetite. TikTok @smokeyandmaia "He didn't want to spoil his appetite," another suggested, as another shared: "My dog limps aggressively when he wants cookies." And as one commenter declared: "He was sick and then healed by cheesy bread." Dogs can fake injuries or illness, and it may stem from reinforced behavior. If a dog notices they get extra attention or treats when they're sick or injured, they may act the same way later to get the same result, according to Nutri-Paw. Owners should take their pets to the veterinarian to be sure, but signs the dog may be faking include the symptoms only being present when you're nearby, or the symptoms disappearing when the dog is distracted or excited.
