Gauteng Provincial government supports Operation Phakama Vaal
SEDIBENG.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality's (ELM's) operation to clean and provide service delivery to the community started in earnest on Monday, June 2.
Operation Phakama Vaal is supported by the Gauteng Provincial government and its main focus is to bring back service delivery and confidence in the community. It (also) aims, among others, to encourage communities to keep the environment clean. The Gauteng Provincial government said that the initiative follows the recent Provincial Intergrated Service Delivery Programme visit that seeks to address service delivery issues including crime, infrastructure maintenance and waste management amongst other things.
'The week long operation will focus on Sebokeng, Vanderbijlpark, Evaton and Vereening mainly tackling illegal dumping, promoting recycling and restoring neglected public space,' a statement by the Provincial government read.
On Monday teams (employees from ELM), supported by others from different municipalities in the province gathered at ELM Masoheng, Sebokeng offices to start the operation. The campaign will run throughout this week, and ends on Sunday.

However, passports, often perceived as more secure owing to stricter issuance protocols, showed a fraud rate of 20%. The 'others' category, including work permits and alien cards, accounted for 19%, while voter IDs had the lowest fraud rate, at 14%. These findings highlight the diverse vulnerabilities across ID types, with national IDs remaining the most at risk due to their ubiquity. While passports and other specialised documents like work permits have lower fraud rates, their misuse often involves high-stakes activities such as international travel or employment fraud, with significant financial and reputational risks. Man shot dead during shootout between police and illegal miners in Riverlea A 59-year-old man was shot and killed during a shootout between police and illegal miners in Riverlea. Government condemned the incident, which occurred on the evening of June 3, leaving one man dead and two others injured – a bystander and a police officer. The deceased was reportedly caught in the crossfire during an exchange of gunfire between police and three armed suspects. Road maintenance staff find decomposed body along Golden Highway
SEBOKENG.- Perhaps had the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) long embarked on cleaning and maintaining service delivery in Sedibeng, a gruesome discovery would long have been made. Sebokeng police are investigating a case of inquest after a decomposed body was spotted by road maintenance staff next to Sebokeng Water Works, along the Golden Highway, on Tuesday afternoon. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that the road maintenance staff alleged that they were busy cleaning, and cutting the tall grass, along the Golden Highway when they spotted a decomposed body. 'They summoned for the police and on arrival, the police found a decomposed body of an unknown person. Upon further investigation it was discovered that both legs were detached from the body, and were a few paces away. EMS verified the gender of the deceased as a male and his age was not estimated. The body was taken to the Sebokeng Forensic Pathology for further investigation,' Mokhachane said. The Sebokeng Station Commander, Brigadier Thembekile Kubone, would like to plead with anyone who does not know about their loved one's whereabouts to go to Sebokeng Forensic Pathology Services for further information. The police further plead with the public to assist with any information that may assist with any information that may assist with the investigation.
