White Sox place SS/2B Chase Meidroth (thumb) on IL
The move is retroactive to Monday for the 24-year-old rookie, who was hit by a Taijuan Walker pitch in a 9-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on July 30.
Meidroth, acquired in the Dec. 11 trade that sent All-Star left-hander Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox, is batting .252 with three homers, 15 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 84 games this season. He has started 58 games at shortstop and 20 at second base.
In corresponding moves, Chicago called up infielder Jacob Amaya from Triple-A Charlotte and designated right-hander Gus Varland for assignment.

Shedeur Sanders celebrates his first NFL touchdown pass during his preseason debut for Browns
After months of waiting and speculation after his shocking fall down the draft board, Shedeur Sanders has finally taken his first snaps in the NFL. Sanders, who was widely projected to be a top-five pick, fell to the fifth round before he was taken by the Cleveland Browns with the 144th selection. On Friday, Sanders got his first preseason start in a game against the Carolina Panthers. With multiple injuries to Browns quarterbacks, Sanders got the nod to take the first snaps of the game for Cleveland. Fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel was ruled out as questionable with a hamstring injury. Veteran Kenny Pickett missed the game for the same reason. It left the Browns with Sanders and former Pro Bowler Tyler Huntley as their healthy options. Sanders entered the stadium alongside an entourage - playing his own unreleased music and walking with someone who carried a staff. But Sanders' start was rocky. A three-and-out on his first drive was followed up by a wild turnover-on-downs. we're on the board! #CLEvsCAR on NFLN, @WEWS & NFL+ — Cleveland Browns (@Browns) August 8, 2025 Shedeur Sanders got his first snaps in an NFL game as he got the start in a preseason contest The crux came on a 4th & 1 after Sanders threw an 11 yard pass the play before. Only needing a yard to continue the drive, Sanders took the snap and was immediately faced with pass rush pressure. Sanders scampered wildly in the backfield - dropping back 20 yards to try and avoid the sack, only to throw the ball away and give possession back to Carolina. The Panthers scored on the next drive, going up early. But eventually, the rookie out of Colorado got into a rhythm. Cleveland punted on their third drive under Sanders, but Panthers returner Trevor Etienne muffed the return and gave the Browns control at the 10-yard-line. On the first play of the second quarter, Sanders completed a toss to wideout Kaden Davis for his first touchdown in the league. He ran off to the end zone to join in the joy with his teammates before doing his signature 'Wrists Up' celebration.

Fever lose Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson for rest of season
August 8 - The Indiana Fever lost guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson for the season due to injuries sustained in Thursday's 95-60 road loss against the Phoenix Mercury. McDonald broke her right foot in the fourth quarter and Colson tore the ACL in her left knee during the first period. Indiana announced the severity of the injuries on Friday, one day before its contest against the visiting Chicago Sky. McDonald was averaging 9.8 points, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 20 games (13 starts). Colson was averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 assists in 30 games (six starts). Indiana will have just nine available players on Saturday but will be able to apply to sign a hardship player following the contest. Chicago will be without star Angel Reese (back). It will be her eighth absence in the past 10 games. --Field Level Media

Orioles reinstate Ryan Mountcastle, place two outfielders on IL
August 8 - The Baltimore Orioles have reinstated Ryan Mountcastle from the 60-day injured list and the veteran is in the starting lineup as the designated hitter on Friday against the Athletics. The Orioles also placed a pair of outfielders on the IL. Tyler O'Neill, suffering from right wrist inflammation, will undergo his third stint off the field this season (retroactive to Aug. 6). Colton Cowser, who missed all of April and May with a broken left thumb, was placed on the seven-day concussion IL. Both injuries occurred in collisions with outfield fences in Baltimore's most recent series in Philadelphia. O'Neill suffered his injury on Tuesday, as he ran into the right field fence on a home run by Max Kepler and came out of the game after taking another at-bat. Cowser crashed into the left field fence after making a running catch of a deep fly ball by Harrison Bader in the sixth inning on Wednesday. He stayed in the game. In addition to the Mountcastle return, the Orioles also recalled outfielder Jordyn Adams from Triple-A Norfolk. Adams appeared in both games against the Cubs last weekend, but was sent back to Norfolk on Monday. He has only three at-bats in eight games played for Baltimore in 2025. Mountcastle suffered a right hamstring injury and last played on May 30. Through 52 games, he was hitting .246 with a pair of home runs and 15 RBIs. The six-year veteran hit a combined 55 home runs and drove in 174 runs across 2021-22, but has spent part of the last three seasons on the injured list. --Field Level Media
