Anthony Richardson has a shaky Saturday practice after a strong week
Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson's practice work is being watched closely this summer and word from reporters during three practices this week was that Richardson was doing some of his best work. Saturday's session didn't earn the same kind of raves. The Colts had a red-zone heavy practice and Richardson struggled to complete passes while also throwing an interception. Reporters noted that Daniel Jones, who is competing with Richardson, also had a hard time. After the practice, offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter said the focus was on dropback passing and that is difficult in the red zone because of advantages the defense can deploy to stop it. As a result, Cooter said he found positive signs amid the overall performance. "The defense squeezes those zones, the man coverage is tighter," Cooter said, via the team's website. "We're trying new plays. We want to be really, really good at all that stuff. At the same time, these guys are working different progressions and where they can throw certain balls. We want to go through a practice and be really, really clean, but at the same time you don't want those guys to avoid sort of working on trying a throw or working on trying to hit a certain receiver in a certain spot, maybe a back shoulder type of throw. So red zone practices, when you sort them up at the end of the year, they don't always end up being your highest-production practices, but we do get a lot out of them. It's going to make us better moving forward. There's going to be some things we can coach off today's tape, but it was an encouraging day because we're working a lot of things and I think we got better at it." The Colts will be in Baltimore on Thursday to kick off their preseason schedule and that should mark a significant chapter in the quarterback competition.

10 takeaways from the Baltimore Ravens' first unofficial depth chart of the preseason
Baltimore will face the Colts this week, and with the preseason opener fast approaching, here's the initial reaction to the depth chart with ten key takeaways The Ravens have started preparation for their preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts, and nothing says the regular season is approaching like the release of the first unofficial depth chart of the summer. The offensive and defensive depth chart, printed out by Baltimore's public relations department, has a few surprises, including Mike Green having to find his role. With the Thursday night opener quickly approaching, here's the initial reaction to the depth chart with ten key takeaways. Random notes Rookie OT Emery Jones Jr. is on NFI (Non-Football Injury), and DB Ar'Darius Washington is on PUP. RB Keaton Mitchell is back and as explosive as ever, but he'll have to earn every carry as he sits on the depth chart behind a solid backup in Justice Hill, and an all-world player in Derrick Henry. How many wide receivers will the Ravens carry? If Baltimore carries six wide receivers, the big four will consist of Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, DeAndre Hopkins, and Devontez Walker, with some Tylan Wallace sprinkled in. That leaves Anthony Miller, Dayton Wade, Malik Cunningham, LaJohntay Wester, Keith Kirkwood, and two undrafted free agents fighting for one potential roster spot. Mark Andrews is still king. If Isaiah Likely is the Ravens' tight end of the future, it won't be shown on this depth chart. Mark Andrews is TE1. Carson Vinson The rookie out of Alabama A&M would be the backup right tackle if the season started today, and he's begun to make key strides in practice. Left guard Andrew Vorhees starts his second straight training camp out as the starting left guard, and only an injury could derail his matchup with Ben Cleveland. DE Baltimore didn't like their depth at the defensive end spot, and Brent Urban's immediate naming to the second team shows. David Ojabo Ojabo is the Ravens International Pathway Program player, and that's likely the only thing that keeps the former Michigan pass rusher on this depth chart. Tavius Robinson has supplanted Ojabo behind Odafe Oweh. Mike Green has to earn his role. Green is the second-round pick, but the depth chart has him as the fourth-string SAM Linebacker behind Malik Hamm and Adisa Isaac. Linebacker Trenton Simpson is the starter opposite Roquan Smith, while rookie Teddye Buchanan has a hill to climb. CB Jaire Alexander was the big free agent signing, and he's had an outstanding training camp, but it's Chidobe Awuzie listed as a starter. Marlon Humphrey is the slot cornerback, but the season opener should have Jaire Alexander by then.
