MLB insider predicts Cody Bellinger's time with Yankees is nearing an end
The New York Yankees are in the middle of a tight race for the playoffs, with the resurgence of their three-time All-Star outfielder playing a big role in their high level of play.
After losing Juan Soto in the offseason, the Yankees needed a left-handed power bat in their lineup, and trading for former National League Most Valuable Player Cody Bellinger fit the bill perfectly. Bellinger has had a resurgent season, slashing .276/.327/.827 with 20 home runs and 65 RBIs in his first season in the pinstripes.
With Bellinger's high level of play and contract, including a player option, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller predicts that Bellinger will opt out of his contract and leave the Yankees this offseason.
"Bellinger has a $25M player option for 2026, but he has re-harnessed his slugging well enough that he'll probably decline it and set his sights upon another 3/$80M or better type of deal," Miller wrote. "
The San Francisco Giants could use a reliable center fielder like Bellinger, who can add some firepower to their offense. The three-time All-Star's defensive versatility and ability to play multiple positions would make him a good option to target in the offseason.Bellinger could choose to stay in New York and play out the final season of his current contract, but it would make sense if he steps away. The 30-year-old outfielder has bounced back nicely after a couple of rough seasons, and this could be the perfect time for him to get another big contract while still performing at a high level.

Jets rookie TE Mason Taylor sidelined by high-ankle sprain
Jets second-round pick Mason Taylor won't be making his preseason debut this week. Taylor has been out of practice the last couple of days and head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters at a Tuesday press conference that the rookie is dealing with a high-ankle sprain. Glenn said that Taylor is out for at least a week as a result of the injury. Glenn also said that defensive tackle Byron Cowart has an ankle injury. Cowart was carted off at Tuesday's practice and edge rusher Will McDonald left the session with back spasms. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor has missed practice with a knee injury, but Glenn said that the team does not believe that it is a serious issue.
