Jamal Musiala: Extent of Bayern Munich star's injury revealed as player leaves Club World Cup tie on stretcher

Paris Saint-Germain have wished Jamal Musiala well after the Bayern Munich star appeared to suffer a serious injury during the two sides' fiery Club World Cup clash, which could reportedly sideline him for up to five months.
The injury - which German media outlet Sport BILD reports is a broken left fibula - occurred when Musiala collided with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma while chasing a loose ball near the byeline at the end of first-half stoppage time on Saturday.
Hitting the turf and remaining there for several minutes before being stretchered off, the 22-year-old was in pain as he clutched his left ankle, which appeared to be twisted at an unnatural angle.
Donnarumma was not penalised by the referee, who instead soon blew his whistle for half-time with the incident seemingly deemed to have been an accident.
But the Italian shot-stopper immediately reacted with dismay, averting his gaze as players from both clubs surrounded the young Germany international and Bayern's physios were beckoned into the pitch.
Musiala, making his first competitive start since early April after recovering from a muscular injury, had enjoyed a promising opening half and was preparing to inherit Bayern's iconic No10 shirt next season, but is now set for an extended period on the sidelines.
BILD reports that the player has 'damaged several ligaments' in addition to breaking his left fibula, and 'will likely be out for four to five months'.
'Unfortunately, it doesn't look good,' was the assessment of Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund when asked about Musiala's injury by Club World Cup broadcasters DAZN after the match.
In his own post-match comments, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany confirmed Musiala had been taken to hospital and agreed that the injury 'didn't look good'.
'The overwhelming feeling is that I hope it's not as bad as it looks, and that he will get through this one,' he added.
Referencing it being the player's 'second setback in a very short time', Kompany said his 'blood boils' at such an injury happening to a player who 'lives for this'.
He continued: 'It will hit hard, but he's going to get through it and come back stronger.'
Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembele, who scored PSG's decisive second goal on the night following Desire Doue's opener, said the injury was 'something you don't want to see on the field' - comments echoed by PSG captain Marquinhos.
"Shout out to Jamal Musiala,' both players added, while PSG manager Luis Enrique opened his post-match press conference by wishing the 'unlucky' Bayern midfielder a speedy recovery.
Opposition left-back Nuno Mendes similarly told reporters after the game: 'We feel very sorry for him. He's one of the best players, and we hope he comes back stronger."
Fellow PSG full-back Achraf Hakimi said it was 'important we talk about Jamal Musiala,' adding: 'I want to give my support to him. We hope to see him back on the pitch soon."
PSG's official account on X also posted a message of support to Musiala after the match, wishing the Bayern player a 'swift and full recovery.'
