Rugby Australia relaxes 'redundant' limit on foreign-based players
Rugby Australia has signalled that more overseas-based players will be allowed to represent the Wallabies, shifting away from a strict policy that has heavily favoured domestic players. The so-called "Giteau Law" -- named after former fly-half Matt Giteau -- has for years put restrictions on overseas-based players being selected for the Wallabies. But with Test stars such as lock Will Skelton, flanker Tom Hooper and prop Taniela Tupou all joining an exodus to Europe, Rugby Australia has indicated the Giteau Law has been dropped. That gives head coach Joe Schmidt a free selection hand when he names his squad for the Rugby Championship this week. "Joe's got no impediment to select whoever he wants," Rugby Australia head of high performance Peter Horne said. "The Giteau Law, it's kind of redundant right," Horne added in comments reported by Schmidt is due to name his squad Thursday for the Rugby Championship which begins this month. Scrapping the rule would also benefit incoming head coach Les Kiss, who takes over the Wallabies next year tasked with preparing for the Rugby World Cup on home soil in 2027. The Giteau Law was adopted by the Wallabies in 2015, allowing overseas-based players to represent the side only if they had played 60 Tests for Australia and seven seasons of Super Rugby. It enabled players such as Matt Giteau, who was then starring for Toulon, to be picked for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. IndiGo's Next International Stop: Service to London Heathrow Has a Date
IndiGo doubles down on global ambitions with new London Heathrow flights, more Dreamliners, and a bold business-class debut. IndiGo has announced that it will be commencing its direct daily flights to London Heathrow on October 26. The airline will be operating the route on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, it said. IndiGo said it will be receiving five additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft during the ongoing financial year under its damp-lease arrangement with Norse Atlantic Airways. This, it said, 'will enable the airline to launch new international routes while strengthening its existing long-haul network.' Speaking at the earnings call last week, CEO Pieter Elbers had said the airline would be launching London and Copenhagen in the coming months. The airline has not clarified from which Indian city it would be flying to London Heathrow. IndiGo already operates flights to Manchester from Mumbai. More IndiGoStretch Routes: IndiGo has also announced its plans to launch its business class product IndiGoStretch on flights operating on Delhi-Singapore and Mumbai-Singapore routes starting August 9. The airline will operate its two-class A321 aircraft on the routes. Apart from this, IndiGo will also introduce the business class product on Delhi-Dubai route starting August 30, and on the Mumbai-Dubai route next month. Williams and Cardoso have double-doubles, Sky beat Mystics to snap 8-game skid
Elizabeth Williams had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Kamilla Cardoso added 16 points and 13 boards, and the Chicago Sky beat the Washington Mystics 78-64 on Tuesday night to snap an eight-game losing streak. Chicago (8-21) avoided being swept in the four-game regular-season series. The Sky had lost six straight against the Mystics and five in a row at home in the series. Shakira Austin made a layup to open the scoring but Chicago ripped off a 14-0 run to take the lead for good. Cardoso had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first half — the 6-foot-7 center's seventh consecutive double-double and ninth this season. Cardoso's layup at the buzzer gave the Sky a 35-28 lead at the end of the second quarter and the Mystics got no closer. Sonia Citron led Washington (13-16) with 13 points and Kiki Iriafen scored 10. The Mystics have lost three in a row and six of eight. Angel Reese (back), who has missed six of the last eight games, and Hailey Van Lith (ankle) did not play for the Sky. Ariel Atkins returned from a seven-game absence due to a leg injury and finished with 15 points and five assists for Chicago. Michaela Onyenwere scored 12 points. The Mystics traded Brittney Sykes, who leads the teams in scoring (15.4 per game), assists (4.4) and steals (1.24), to Seattle earlier Tuesday in exchange for Alysha Clark, Zia Cooke and a 2026 first-round pick. The Sky shot a season-high 54% (34 of 63) from the field, had 22 assists and led by as many as 19 points. Washington was 2 of 15 (13%) from 3-point range and shot 53% (8 of 15) from the free-throw line. The Mystics play the second of four straight road games Friday at Minnesota. Chicago hosts Atlanta on Thursday.
