Oman, India strengthen ties with new book celebrating shared history
Muscat: India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi jointly released a book titled Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman. The launch took place on the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference, held in Muscat.
The book highlights the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between India and Oman, tracing the journey of the Indian community from Mandvi in Gujarat to Muscat and beyond. It explores the contributions of the Indian diaspora to Omani society and trade, reinforcing the strong people-to-people connections that have shaped bilateral relations over the years. The book is published by Muscat Media Group.
Dr. Jaishankar described his meeting with Sayyid Badr Albusaidi as a productive discussion on key areas of cooperation between the two nations. Sharing his thoughts on social media platform X, he stated:
"Delighted to meet FM @badralbusaidi of Oman this morning. Appreciate his personal efforts in successfully hosting the 8th Indian Ocean Conference. Held wide-ranging discussions on our cooperation in trade, investment, and energy security. So glad we could jointly release the logo celebrating the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. Also jointly released a book 'Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman'.'
In addition to the book release, the ministers also unveiled the official logo marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman, celebrating seven decades of strong bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and energy security.
Dr. Jaishankar, who also addressed the inaugural session of the Indian Ocean Conference, underscored India's commitment to fostering maritime partnerships in the region. He highlighted India's role in promoting connectivity, ensuring maritime security, and supporting regional stability through various initiatives, including the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) and partnerships in naval security.

It will not only propel our two-way trade and investment but will also have a positive effect on other strategic aspects of our bilateral ties. It would also contribute to the strengthening of supply and value chains," he added. Jaishankar said India will never countenance perpetrators of evil being put at par with its victims. "I thank the Government of the United Kingdom for the strong condemnation of the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and for your solidarity and support to India in the fight against terrorism," he said. The minister said that the UK-India infrastructure financial bridge can unlock quality long-term capital flows from the United Kingdom to India. "There's very good collaboration in the education sector with many more universities. I believe planning to establish their campuses in India," he said.

New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Saturday and shared the details in a post on X. PM Modi appreciated the progress made in the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and also mentioned the recently concluded FTA between the two countries. He appreciated the UK's support to India in the fight against cross-border terrorism. PM Modi wrote on X, "Pleased to meet UK Foreign Secretary Mr. David Lammy. Appreciate his substantive contribution to the remarkable progress in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, further strengthened by the recently concluded FTA. Value UK's support for India's fight against cross-border terrorism." Earlier on Saturday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and the UK Foreign Secretary also held bilateral discussions. Dhofar gears up for khareef with 100 tourist sites, 7,300 rooms
SALALAH, June 7 Dhofar Governorate is gearing up for its signature tourism season with a marked increase in hospitality capacity, as the number of licensed establishments reaches 100, offering 7,300 rooms, the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism has confirmed. The expansion — driven by new hotel openings in Salalah, Taqah and Mirbat — is part of wider preparations for Khareef 2025, a key period for tourism in Oman. 'This capacity growth reflects our strategic focus on readiness and service excellence,' said Abdullah bin Omar al Sabbah Baaboud, Assistant Director of the Promotion Department in Dhofar. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, he noted, is working in tandem with stakeholders to upgrade tourism infrastructure and attract further investment into the hospitality sector. These efforts align with Oman Vision 2040, which positions tourism as a vital contributor to economic diversification and local development. According to official data, Dhofar welcomed 1.048 million visitors during the Khareef 2024 season, a 9 per cent year-on-year increase. Omani visitors surged by 70.1 per cent to over 734,500, while Gulf visitors rose 16.9 per cent, reaching nearly 177,000. Visitors from other Arab nations also posted a modest increase of 3.6 per cent. By end-2024, Dhofar had 83 licensed hotel properties offering 6,537 rooms. The additional supply — set to reach 100 hotels by summer 2025 — aims to meet rising demand and expand accommodation options for a diverse visitor base. The 2024 season also featured a significantly extended calendar of events, running for 90 consecutive days. Activities ranged from cultural showcases and family entertainment to sporting attractions such as the Salalah International Cycling Tour, drawing broad audience engagement across the governorate. The ministry implemented targeted marketing campaigns, participated in international travel exhibitions; and organised media and trade familiarisation trips. Social media outreach also intensified, partnering with regional influencers to reinforce Dhofar's profile as a leading monsoon destination. Officials expect further growth in visitor arrivals over the coming seasons, supported by continuous infrastructure upgrades and broader investment in tourism services. With Khareef tourism now a centrepiece of Dhofar's economic strategy, the governorate is on track to solidify its standing as a premier destination in the Arabian Peninsula.
