Italian sportswear brand Ellesse, owned by British sports, outdoor and lifestyle group Pentland Brands, is returning to the US with a new licensing agreement, with a focus on the brand's tennis and ski collections.
Pentland Brands has signed a long-term licensing partnership with The Iconic Brand Corporation (TIBC), a new company spearheaded by chairman Todd Furniss, who was Ellesse's first US contract tennis player in 1978.
TIBC has been tasked with relaunching the Ellesse brand in the US and will work 'in close collaboration' with the Ellesse team to design, develop, produce and market all Ellesse apparel and accessories collections in the country.
The first collection in the US will launch in spring 2026 and will debut direct-to-consumer through its Ellesse.us website, followed by select flagship retail locations opening in late 2026.
In a statement, Pentland Brands called the move a 'milestone agreement,' signalling a 'new chapter' in the Ellesse journey, as it looks to position the brand for rapid expansion across physical and digital channels, with the brand also looking to target country clubs and select speciality retailers. Ellesse was founded in 1959 by Italian tailor Leonardo Servadio and has become known for its sporting heritage, across tennis and skiing, for fusing performance and style.
'This next chapter brings that legacy to life for a new generation of American consumers, supported by a robust brand strategy with a focus on premium design, cultural relevance, and world-class collaborations in sport, fashion, and lifestyle,' adds Pentland Brands.
Jack Richardson, senior vice president and brand director at Pentland Brands, who joined the company from sportswear company Canterbury of New Zealand in October 2023, said: 'We're delighted to welcome The Iconic Brand Company into the Ellesse family. This is a group of leaders who understand what it takes to build something meaningful.
'Our partnership allows us to reintroduce the brand in a way that feels elevated, relevant, and true to its heritage. They bring passion, precision, and the kind of deep cultural connection that aligns beautifully with where we're heading as a global brand.'
Fronting the US relaunch will be Furniss, a key figure in US tennis and golf culture, who now leads gTCGroup with a strong presence in private equity and healthcare transformation. Furniss has recruited a team of seasoned industry experts to lead the venture, including apparel veteran executive Duwayne Miller as chief executive officer. He has more than 25 years of experience launching and scaling businesses across apparel and home textiles and has worked with brands such as Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, and hotel group the Four Seasons.
Also joining the team is PM Andersson as chief financial officer, who brings international financial expertise across consumer goods, private equity, and asset management sectors to ensure strong, responsible growth for the brand's future.
Furniss added: 'Collaborating with the talented team that Duwayne is building, which includes industry experts across product development, sourcing, digital, and marketing, alongside the Pentland Group in London, is one of my greatest professional and personal joys.
'Ellesse is a brand that I have had a relationship with for 47 years, and few things could bring more personal excitement and enthusiasm than returning Ellesse to its place of prominence at the intersection of sport, fashion, and culture.'

Final batch of £1 coins released and they're 'rarest in circulation'

Final batch of £1 coins released and they're 'rarest in circulation' The Royal Mint says the release of these coins represents a 'pivotal moment in history' King Charles III £1 coins in production The final batch of Queen Elizabeth II £1 coins are entering circulation across the UK, the Royal Mint has announced. More than 23 million Queen coins are being released alongside 7.5 million new King Charles III £1 coins. ‌ The Royal Mint said the last of the Elizabeth II coins, dated 2022, are the rarest £1 coins in active circulation. The historic transition – with the dual release of almost 31 million coins – represents a significant moment for UK coinage, as the nation witnesses the changeover from Britain's longest-reigning monarch to her son and heir on the £1 denomination, the Royal Mint said. ‌ The Queen's £1 coins will be the final ones bearing Elizabeth II's portrait to enter circulation. Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, said: 'This release represents a pivotal moment in British coinage history. ‌ 'As we release more of the King Charles III £1 coins into circulation alongside the final coins of Queen Elizabeth II, we're witnessing the physical representation of our monarchy's transition. This dual release creates an exceptional opportunity for both seasoned numismatists and those new to coin collecting.' The Royal Mint is encouraging the public to check its change over the coming weeks, as the new coins begin to appear in pockets and tills across the nation. Ms Morgan added: 'Finding these new coins in your change could spark a rewarding hobby that connects you with the heritage, history and craftsmanship behind British currency.' Article continues below Since the introduction of the King's effigy on UK coinage in 2023, the 50p and £1 are the only denominations with Charles's portrait to have entered circulation so far. The King's £1 coins feature an intricate bee design on the reverse and are part of the Definitive collection, inspired by the flora and fauna of the British Isles. Some 2.975 million £1s with the King's effigy were released in August last year. In total, there are around 24.7 billion coins in circulation across the UK, with the King's coins representing only around 0.004% of those, making his new coins highly desirable to collectors. All UK coins bearing the Queen's portrait will remain legal tender and in active circulation to allow a smooth transition and minimise the environmental impact and cost.

Alexander Isak: Liverpool chiefs respond to explosive statement as transfer ‘approved'

Newcastle star Alexander Isak has cranked up his attempts to leave St James' Park with an explosive statement and that only appears to have encouraged the Reds in their bid to sign the forward Liverpool bosses have APPROVED a stunning British record move for Alexander Isak in the aftermath of his explosive statement. The Newcastle striker ramped up his efforts to leave St James' Park on Tuesday after breaking his silence on the ongoing transfer furore. ‌ He slammed Magpies chiefs for 'broken promises' and claimed that his relationship with the club couldn't continue. And Isak's latest attempts only appear to have encouraged Liverpool as they attempt to sign Isak before next month's deadline. ‌ According to The Sun, Reds chiefs have sanctioned a £130million bid for the 25-year-old and could lodge an offer to Newcastle over the coming days. That amount would eclipse the current British transfer record set earlier this summer when the Reds signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. ‌ Should Liverpool's fresh bid be accepted, it would take their summer spending past the £400m mark. Their previous bid for Isak was in the region of £110m but that was rebuffed by Newcastle. While Liverpool chiefs are priming a new bid, their Newcastle colleagues have also responded to Isak's latest attempts to leave the club. A statement on Tuesday read: 'We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening. We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer. 'We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. 'We do not foresee those conditions being met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.' Where will Alexander Isak be when the transfer window closes? Share your thoughts in the comments below ‌ Isak has three years remaining on his contract at St James' Park and Newcastle chiefs are determined to keep him, especially should their demands not be met before next month's deadline. That has not deterred Isak though, whose statement appears to allude to him never playing for the club again. Taking to social media, he wrote: 'I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors. "The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. 'When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.'

Man Utd transfer news: Ruben Amorim comes up with new plan as midfielder reveals stance on exit

Manchester United still have work to do in the final days of the transfer window as the club look to strengthen Ruben Amorim's midfield before the deadline passes at the turn of the month Manchester United have less than two weeks to complete the remainder of their work in the transfer window. Ruben Amorim will hope the club's activity will help his team reach greater heights after producing an impressive display that ended in defeat against Arsenal. ‌ The Red Devils have already seen significant signings in Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha, having splashed out in the region of £200million. The trio made their competitive debuts against the Gunners but were unable to find the net. ‌ And Amorim looks to want more reinforcements in his squad, with midfield among the priorities. A move for Carlos Baleba has been stopped in its tracks by Brighton's asking price being in excess of £100m. ‌ United may need to facilitate more sales to aid any new deals. Marcus Rashford has already departed on loan to Barcelona but new clubs are still required for Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho. Man Utd transfer plan Manchester United are still considering signing a central midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window after moving on from Carlos Baleba. The 21-year-old Cameroon international is under contract with Brighton until June 2028, and the Seagulls are unwilling to budge on their significant demands having sold Moises Caicedo for £115m to Chelsea two years ago. The Red Devils now have some alternatives in mind however, per The Athletic. Morten Hjulmand and Adam Wharton are now under the microscope as United attempt to strengthen Ruben Amorim's midfield. Hjulmand is extremely well known to the United boss after playing 65 times under the Portuguese coach. The 26-year-old is reportedly available for around £50m. ‌ Wharton meanwhile may be a difficult deal to do as Crystal Palace face seeing Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze depart for Liverpool and Tottenham respectively. The 21-year-old has four years left on his contract. Man Utd can hijack Donnarumma deal Manchester United have found new hope in financing a deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer as interest builds in goalkeeper Andre Onana. Inter Milan are interested in bringing back the glovesman that helped them to the Champions League final in 2023. Onana's position has been widely speculated upon since arriving in England after failing to convince during a difficult period for United. If Inter do come in with a bid, United could have the funds to quickly go out and land their replacement. ‌ Donnarumma could become an immediate target, despite interest from neighbours Manchester City, after Paris Saint-Germain decided they wanted to part ways with the Italian. The Champions League winners want to earn a fee for the shotstopper after failing to come to an agreement over a new deal and signing Lucas Chevalier as a replacement. It is said Donnarumma could be available for as little as £26m. Casemiro transfer stance Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is happy at Old Trafford, despite persistent talk of a move away from the club over the last 12 months. The Brazilian midfielder has produced inconsistent form in the Premier League in recent seasons but started under Ruben Amorim in the first match of the season against Arsenal. ‌ Casemiro has another 12 months on his contract, and has seen links to Saudi Arabia, but appears content to spend another year with the club. "I am very happy here," he said "My family is happy here. I enjoy every day at Carrington and at Old Trafford. If people talk from the outside, that's fine, it doesn't interest me. I just want to focus on winning." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
