DGCA seeks ministry's approval to allow students without science background to become pilots
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for obtaining a Commercial Pilot Licence.
Class XII students who have not studied science are now eligible to get trained and apply for Commercial Pilot Licence. At present, only those with an educational background in science are allowed to opt for it.
Speaking to this reporter, the Director General of DGCA, Faiz Ahmed, said, "This is the norm worldover that students of all educational backgrounds can become a pilot. We have submitted a proposal in this connection in April to the Civil Aviation Ministry. It is upto them to take a final call on the matter."
Asked about the reason which prompted this relaxation, the Director General said, "Students who opt to study a professional flying course need to clear 5 to 6 papers. The training is quite technical and it is rigorous and tests them on a continuous basis."
Presently, there is much Instrumentation and huge scientific advances which makes it quite easy for everyone to operate an aircraft, he added.
Ministry sources confirmed that DGCA had sent a proposal to it. "No decision has been taken as of today on it," a source said.

Advanced drone pilot training initiative launched to boost youth employment
Thiruvananthapuram: Higher education minister R Bindu inaugurated an advanced drone pilot training initiative at Rajadhani Engineering College in Nagaroor near Attingal. The programme is being launched by ASAP Kerala in collaboration with the Centre for Aerospace Research, Anna University, a DGCA-approved institution. Speaking at the event, Bindu emphasised the govt's commitment to bridging the gap between education and employment. "Drones are rapidly emerging as a major source of employment, ranging from agriculture to national defence. We must prepare our youth to seize these opportunities," she said. She highlighted ASAP Kerala's role in transforming the state into a knowledge-based society and announced that the next centre of excellence in drone pilot training will be established in Thrissur. The event also featured a seminar and drone exhibition led by space scientist Myilsamy Annadurai. Students also participated in live demonstrations and interactive sessions. Attingal MLA O S Ambika, ASAP Kerala CMD Usha Titus, Centre for Aerospace Research director Senthil Kumar, Nagaroor panchayat president Smita D, Rajadhani Group chairman Biju Ramesh, ASAP Kerala head Liju I P Nair and Rajadhani College principal Madhukumar S were also present.

Drone Technology Centre inaugurated
Thiruvananthapurm, May 17 (UNI) Kerala Higher Education Minister Dr. R. Bindu has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Drone Technology here. The CoE is established by the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) Kerala, under the Higher Education Department, in collaboration with the Centre for Aerospace Research (CASR), Anna University. The CoE features ASAP Kerala's second Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO), located at the ASAP Community Skill Park (CSP), Kazhakkoottam, with a dedicated flying ground at Rajadhani Institute of Engineering and Technology. This advanced skilling facility provides aspiring candidates with the opportunity to undergo Drone Pilot Training and obtain the Remote Pilot Certificate from DGCA. UNI DS BM
