Josh Brolin finds Weapons opposite to all the same... content on streamers

News18a day ago
Washington DC [US], August 12 (ANI): Actor Josh Brolin is tired of 'all the same sh**" that's on streamers, so he decided to join Zach Cregger's 'Weapons', according to The Hollywood Reporter.'Weapons' is a mystery horror film, written, co-produced, and directed by Zach Cregger. The film stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. The Oscar-nominated actor recently shared how the horror mystery pic is the solution to all the boring content. 'You're looking for great filmmakers, and you're hoping that there's another new good filmmaker out there," he said.'Right now, with so much content, you're just watching things on whatever streaming service you're on, and you're just going, '…why is this so boring, man? Why?' And just go to the next thing. It's all the same…"Brolin added of 'Weapons', 'And then somebody not only takes the horror genre, but then f* with it and then does something on the edge of absurdity, and it's sort of humorous, so it's keeping you off-balance enough for him to have an emotional impact, ultimately, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is all about a community in chaos after all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanishes on the same night at precisely the same time. The small town is then left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance, as per the outlet. 'Weapons' not only won over critics and audiences but also came in more than USD10 million ahead of expectations for its opening weekend with USD 42.5 million.Cregger previously told The Hollywood Reporter that 'it seems like horror is one of the few outlets for real creativity right now on a big scale."'Without horror, you go to the theatre, and you get people in tights for USD 200 million, and there's not a lot of room for risk in those movies. And no shade, I'm all for entertainment, entertaining. But, it's a shame that there's not a lot of room for anything else," the Barbarian director shared, adding, 'I love horror, my creative tuning fork resonates strongly with horror, so I'm lucky in that regard. I dearly wish that we could have cool, edgy, weird comedies back in the movie theatres. Or dramatic fare for adults in the theatre. I feel like there's not a lot of movies for grown-ups anymore," according to The Hollywood Reporter. (ANI)

Jennifer Aniston On How The Friends Cast Did "Everything They Could" To Help Matthew Perry With His Addiction

Washington DC: Jennifer Aniston has opened up on her late FRIENDS co-star Matthew Perry's years-long struggles with addiction, saying that they started "mourning" Perry long before his demise. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Aniston discussed Perry's battle with addiction, calling it one of the hardest fights for the actor, his fans and co-stars. "We did everything we could when we could," Aniston said of her and her colleagues' efforts, which Perry also expressed in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. "But it almost felt like we'd been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight. As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there's a part of me that thinks this is better. I'm glad he's out of that pain," added Aniston. According to the outlet, Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 from what the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office in December 2023 said were the "acute effects of ketamine." His body was discovered in the hot tub of his Pacific Palisades home, with the autopsy report also listing drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid use disorder, as contributing to his death, reported Variety. In the most recent update to the fallout of Perry's overdose death, one of the doctors who supplied him with ketamine entered a long-expected guilty plea to four counts of distribution. Dr. Salvador Plasencia faces up to 40 years behind bars and could end up paying more than 1 million USD in fines under the plea deal. Plasencia took a plea deal in June in which he admitted to distributing ketamine without a legitimate medical purpose to the FRIENDS star, who died of an overdose in October 2023. In exchange, prosecutors dropped charges of falsifying medical records and additional counts of distribution, Variety reported. As for Jennifer Aniston, the actress will be next seen in the fourth installment of the film The Morning Show. As per teaser, the artificial intelligence appears to be the news topic that will most impact Season 4. It is set to release on September 17, 2025.

West Bengal govt mandates screening of Bengali films in every cinema hall

New Delhi [India], August 13 (ANI): The West Bengal government has ordered the screening of at least one Bengali film each in all the cinema halls and every screen in multiplexes across the state on a regular basis. In an order issued by the state government's Information and Cultural Affairs Department, the films are to be screened during the prime time, i.e., between 3 pm to 9 pm. "After careful consideration of all aspects of the matter, and in exercise of the power conferred by sub-section (3) of section 5 of the West Bengal Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1954, the Governor is hereby pleased to issue the following direction to all licensees of the State," the notification read. It further stated that every cinema hall and all screens in multiplexes in West Bengal must mandatorily have 365 prime time shows/screenings of Bengali films throughout the year, with at least one Bengali show per day for the 365 days. It emphasized that the prime time shows must be held only between 3 pm and 9 pm. "Necessary amendment to the West Bengal Cinemas (Regulation of Public Exhibitions) Rules, 1956 will be made in due course. This order shall come into immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders," it added. The move has been taken in the wake of growing pan-India releases in India, with the West Bengal government aiming to increase the visibility of regional cinema. Prior to this, the government had taken another move by streamlining the process of setting up mini-cinema halls in the state to focus on Bengali films and content. "Over the recent past, we are in receipt of a few proposals for setting up of infrastructure for screening of mini-cinema (with particular focus on Bengali cinema and content). This has the potential to work as a catalyst for development of Bengali film industry and the business model suggests that it might also benefit local businesses to grow further," the letter read from the office of the Chief Secretary. The changes are believed to have the potential to boost local culture and help small businesses grow. (ANI)
