BREAKING NEWS Body is found in ravine as police search for missing Brit who vanished during stag do trip to Portugal

Daily Mail5 days ago

A body has been found in the bottom of a ravine as police search for missing Brit Greg Monks in Portugal.
The body was discovered in the Cerro da Aguia area west of the resort of Albufeira, near where he was last seen, and is being removed by firefighters.
Respected Portuguese daily Correio da Manha is reporting Portugal's Policia Judiciaria force is at the scene.
Mr Monks, a 38-year-old plant mechanic from Glasgow, was last seen in the early hours of May 28 during the first night out of a five-day stag do he was on with friends in the resort town of Albufeira.
Mr Monks, who was due to be a groomsman at the wedding of his friend, told pals he was heading back to his holiday apartment but has not been seen since.
Since then, his family have flown out to search for clues as to where he may have gone.
His sisters said police have told them that their brother was last spotted on CCTV in the quieter residential area of Cerro de Águia – which is around four miles from the Novochoro Apartments he had checked into.
The hill with residential properties is also more than an hour's walk west of the Albufeira Strip, where Monks is thought to have left his friends.
His family had been requesting information, CCTV and bell camera footage from homeowners in that area.
Correio da Manha reported that 'all scenarios are open and the possibility of an accident has not been ruled out'.
Rutherglen's MP Michael Shanks tweeted: 'Awful news from Portugal on the tragic death of my constituent Greg Monks.
'My thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
'The FCDO and Embassy are continuing to offer whatever support they can to the family as they bring him home.'
His family and police are yet to comment but the sisters appeared on Sky News yesterday launching a fresh plea for information as the search enters its second week.
Carolyn said: 'As a family we're worried sick. It's so unlike him, but myself and Jillian are just trying to hold each other up back home.'
Jillian added: 'He deserves to be home. We need him home. He need to be back with his family, and it's unimaginable if he's just lying somewhere that we can't find him.
'[Greg] is quiet, works hard, he's happy in his relationship with his girlfriend. He's a great uncle and godfather to our kids. He's a real family man, really family oriented.'
The sisters pleaded with people in their area to get in contact with local cops if they have any information about their brother's disappearance.
'If you see his picture, and you know anything, get in touch. If you live in the area, or the surrounding area, and you have home security please check it and get in touch', said Jillian.
She added that she was heartened by people who have already begun searching in their spare time.
'We're getting lots of support online, especially even people over there who are using the last days of their holidays to go up to this area and look for them. People are risking themselves to look in areas they shouldn't have to look', she said.
The sisters said they were looking for information as to whether he took a taxi from his night out, or whether he walked over to the affluent area, as that would determine whether the search effort needed to be moved.
'We want to know if he got a taxi there, if he used his card. He only had his card with him. We want to know if he got a taxi there or are we wasting time searching this area', Jillian said.
'[Local police] told us it would be going to national police, but we won't have a meeting with them or an update for a day or two, and time is not what we have'. she added.
The family feared Mr Monks became lost in the unfamiliar surroundings and may have had an accident.
As of yesterday, hospitals have been checked without success but police were not thought to have yet carried out an exhaustive search of medical centres.
This would involve officers going round wards to check on patients admitted without proper identification.
Ms Monks has described her brother as a 'really hard worker' and a 'quiet guy', whose disappearance immediately 'threw up a red flag'.
She said he has a Thor-type Viking unfinished tattoo at the top of his right arm which would be visible if he was wearing a vest top or had no shirt on.
Ms Kelso is said to have checked through Mr Monks' case to see what was missing. As such, the family believe he was wearing a navy blue Nike shorts and top set when he disappeared.
A GoFundMe appeal set up on behalf of the family to help support the search had reached more than £21,550 on Wednesday morning.
Mr Monks' other sister, Carlyn, also pleaded with people online as she shared the family's appeal for help.
She wrote: 'Please keep sharing and help get my brother home.'

Mystery over Maddie McCann suspect Christian Bruecker after ‘huge sum he spent after she disappeared' is revealed

THE man suspected of killing three-year-old Madeleine McCann is said to have spent £45,000 in the year after she vanished. Christian Brueckner got through vast sums despite not paying his rent, reports suggest. 2 2 The paedo, 48, has said he was living in a camper van and dealing drugs when Madeleine vanished from Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007. A land registration document shows that by 2008 he paid £19,000 for a former box factory in east Germany. Another document reveals he upgraded his van to a Winnebago costing up to £20,000 by March 2008. And it has previously been reported he had his buck teeth fixed for £6,000 in September 2007. A Praia local who knew Brueckner for years said: 'He didn't pay rent for his bedsit cottage, he just covered bills for the owner.' A source close to the case in Germany, added: 'He admits dealing drugs in one breath - then claims he is innocent of all claims in another. 'If you look at his spending it is impossible to see where the money came from without linking it to crime. 'Whatever he was up to, he must have had a serious influx of cash before 2008 when his spending was unprecedented.' Brueckner is in a German jail for rape and is due for release in September. He has never been formally charged over Madeleine's disappearance and denies any involvement. A three-day search for clues in Praia drew a blank last week.

I made my own built-in outdoor pool using old palettes and a cheap paddling pool, everyone says it looks like a pro job

A DAD has shared how he built an outdoor pool using cheap buys. Pete Elliot took to social media to show off his DIY skills and people were left seriously impressed. 2 The dad said he made the pool for his son but was also reaping the benefits after slaving away on the build. He said: "Finally done. Not bad for around £315. Pretty much all the money went on the framework with £64 on varnish and a few quid on screws. "So glad I had a pallet load of timber from years ago that cost me £45, as that's the wood you see. "I didn't even scratch the surface with that wood either so the main bit you see cost under a fiver. "It is now my new favorite part of my garden." The pool looked lavish with its wooden frame and steps leading up to the decking and people were stunned by his crafting skills. He first varnished the wood before putting up the paddling pool and building the frame around it. Once it was done, he gave the wood a final varnish to ensure it didn't get spoilt by the water. Pete continued: "Hopefully many summers will be enjoyed sitting on it with my feet dangling in the pool with a beer in my hand." He later revealed that the pool was kept warm with a heated topper that also keeps it clean. Parents are scrambling to The Range to nab new kids' toys - there's inflatables, swimming pools and up to 40% off To keep the pool clean, he used a net to fish out any debris as well as chlorine tables and pool algae cleaner. The chuffed dad also said he would only keep the paddling pool up for summer and put it away when it gets cold again. The post was shared on the Facebook group, Garden Makeover Ideas On A Budget, and people were quick to praise the dad for his DIY skills. One person wrote: "Absolutely awesome, and the fact you built it probably gives you a sense of achievement, congrats." Swimming safety advice Experts have revealed some of their top advice for both adults and kids heading to the water this summer: How to stay safe at the beach Gareth Morrison, Head of Water Safety at the RNLI said: "If you find yourself being swept out to sea in a rip, try to relax and float until you are free from the rip and you can then swim to safety. "If you see someone else in danger, alert a lifeguard or call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard." How to stay safe at the swimming pool Tiny Hearts Education, former paramedic and CEO Nikki Jurcutz said: "Always put your little one in bright or contrasting colours that would be easy to find in an emergency. "It only takes 20 seconds to drown, little tips like this could save a life". An Auqabliss spokesperson added: ' Swimming toys such as noodles, dive rings, floaties and beach balls can be dangerous if left in the pool. ' Children may try to grab these from the pool's edge and fall in." How to stay safe at a waterpark Ali Beckman, Puddle Ducks Technical Director, said: "Never send a child down the slide on their own, not only are they going to be entering the slide pool area independently, they then have to exit the pool and wait for an adult. "And wave pools should be avoided until your child is really confident with water going over their faces and you know they are able to regain their feet independently. ' Waterparks are often very busy places and it's easy to lose sight of a child in a split second." "Brilliant, looks amazing," penned a third. Meanwhile a fourth said: "Stunning." "I love this,' claimed a fifth. Someone else added: 'Looks great I could do with one of those in my garden."
