Police traced body of Greg Monks with CCTV showing final moments before tragic death on stag do in Portugal
PORTUGUESE police discovered CCTV footage showing the final moments of tragic Scot Greg Monks which led them to discover his body. It shows the 38-year-old jumping over a wall after a night out with his stag do friends at the party resort of Albufeira. 6 6 New pictures also show the scrubland where he was found on the Algarve after a week-long search. Cops with sniffer dogs were dispatched to search the steep hillside below luxury villas after a homeowner responded to an appeal by police and Greg's family to search cameras for images of him. An autopsy today is expected to firm up the belief he died in a tragic accident after becoming disorientated as he tried to get back to his hotel after a heavy night of drinking with his holiday friends, just hours after travelling to Albufeira for a five-day stag do. Tributes were continuing to be paid today to the plant mechanic from Glasgow, described as an 'amazing guy' by his devastated sister Jillian following yesterday morning's discovery. Portuguese police confirmed Greg's body had been found in an official statement they put out yesterday afternoon after news of the find started leaking out in the local press. A Portuguese police source revealed today that CCTV supplied by a local homeowner had proved vital in the case. Greg's sister had urged residents in Cerro da Aguia, west of Albufeira, to check home cameras and doorbell footage between 2am and 5am on May 28 after it emerged the last sighting of him had been in the hill area dotted with large villas. The police insider said today: 'The GNR police force had requested help from the Polícia Judiciaria force, which confirmed yesterday the missing man's body had been found. 'They then got given CCTV from one of the villas in the Cerro da Aguia areas, which enabled them to trace him jumping over a wall of a neighbouring property. 'With that information, the searches were immediately moved to the scrubland below the houses. Missing TikToker Hannah Moody, 31, posted tragic final video before she vanished as her body is found two weeks later 'Sniffer dogs that were being used by the GNR were brought in again. 'When the dogs were put to work in the area, around 11am, they went straight to a bush where the missing man's body was laying.' 6 6 Another police insider added: 'The investigation into exactly how he died is ongoing. 'But all the evidence so far is pointing to the tourist losing all notion of where he was in a place he hadn't been to before, and under the effects of alcohol jumping over a first wall into a private property and then a second wall in the back garden not realising there was a steep drop the other side.' Greg's girlfriend Nicole Kelso, as well as the Scots' mum and dad, travelled to Albufeira after he went missing. His sister Jillian, who fronted the appeals for information on his whereabouts before he was found dead, said yesterday his family were 'truly heartbroken.' She added: 'Everyone who knows Greg knows how much he will be missed and what an amazing guy he was.' Portuguese police have not yet released any official statement about why they think he died, although officers have admitted privately they don't expect the post-mortem to reveal any possible link to a crime. 6 6

Tragic Brit tourist Greg Monks fell to his death in an Algarve ravine 'after jumping over a garden wall and not realising it had a steep drop on the other side'
These are the first pictures of the scrub-land where tragic British tourist Greg Monks' body was found yesterday on the Algarve after a week-long search. Today it emerged CCTV footage showing the 38-year-old jumping over a wall after a night out with his stag-do friends had enabled police to narrow down his last movements and make the grim find. Cops with sniffer dogs were dispatched to search the steep hillside below luxury villas in Cerro da Aguia near the party resort of Albufeira after a homeowner responded to an appeal by police and Greg's family to search cameras for images of him. Tributes were continuing to be paid today to the plant mechanic from Glasgow, described as an 'amazing guy' by his devastated sister Jillian following yesterday morning's discovery. Greg's girlfriend Nicole Kelso as well as the Scot's mum and dad travelled to Albufeira after he went missing. BREAKING NEWS Body is found in ravine as police search for missing Brit who vanished during stag do trip to Portugal
A body has been found in the bottom of a ravine as police search for missing Brit Greg Monks in Portugal. The body was discovered in the Cerro da Aguia area west of the resort of Albufeira, near where he was last seen, and is being removed by firefighters. Respected Portuguese daily Correio da Manha is reporting Portugal's Policia Judiciaria force is at the scene. Mr Monks, a 38-year-old plant mechanic from Glasgow, was last seen in the early hours of May 28 during the first night out of a five-day stag do he was on with friends in the resort town of Albufeira. Mr Monks, who was due to be a groomsman at the wedding of his friend, told pals he was heading back to his holiday apartment but has not been seen since. Since then, his family have flown out to search for clues as to where he may have gone. His sisters said police have told them that their brother was last spotted on CCTV in the quieter residential area of Cerro de Águia – which is around four miles from the Novochoro Apartments he had checked into. The hill with residential properties is also more than an hour's walk west of the Albufeira Strip, where Monks is thought to have left his friends. His family had been requesting information, CCTV and bell camera footage from homeowners in that area. Correio da Manha reported that 'all scenarios are open and the possibility of an accident has not been ruled out'. Rutherglen's MP Michael Shanks tweeted: 'Awful news from Portugal on the tragic death of my constituent Greg Monks. 'My thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. 'The FCDO and Embassy are continuing to offer whatever support they can to the family as they bring him home.' His family and police are yet to comment but the sisters appeared on Sky News yesterday launching a fresh plea for information as the search enters its second week. Carolyn said: 'As a family we're worried sick. It's so unlike him, but myself and Jillian are just trying to hold each other up back home.' Jillian added: 'He deserves to be home. We need him home. He need to be back with his family, and it's unimaginable if he's just lying somewhere that we can't find him. '[Greg] is quiet, works hard, he's happy in his relationship with his girlfriend. He's a great uncle and godfather to our kids. He's a real family man, really family oriented.' The sisters pleaded with people in their area to get in contact with local cops if they have any information about their brother's disappearance. 'If you see his picture, and you know anything, get in touch. If you live in the area, or the surrounding area, and you have home security please check it and get in touch', said Jillian. She added that she was heartened by people who have already begun searching in their spare time. 'We're getting lots of support online, especially even people over there who are using the last days of their holidays to go up to this area and look for them. People are risking themselves to look in areas they shouldn't have to look', she said. The sisters said they were looking for information as to whether he took a taxi from his night out, or whether he walked over to the affluent area, as that would determine whether the search effort needed to be moved. 'We want to know if he got a taxi there, if he used his card. He only had his card with him. We want to know if he got a taxi there or are we wasting time searching this area', Jillian said. '[Local police] told us it would be going to national police, but we won't have a meeting with them or an update for a day or two, and time is not what we have'. she added. The family feared Mr Monks became lost in the unfamiliar surroundings and may have had an accident. As of yesterday, hospitals have been checked without success but police were not thought to have yet carried out an exhaustive search of medical centres. This would involve officers going round wards to check on patients admitted without proper identification. Ms Monks has described her brother as a 'really hard worker' and a 'quiet guy', whose disappearance immediately 'threw up a red flag'. She said he has a Thor-type Viking unfinished tattoo at the top of his right arm which would be visible if he was wearing a vest top or had no shirt on. Ms Kelso is said to have checked through Mr Monks' case to see what was missing. As such, the family believe he was wearing a navy blue Nike shorts and top set when he disappeared. A GoFundMe appeal set up on behalf of the family to help support the search had reached more than £21,550 on Wednesday morning. Mr Monks' other sister, Carlyn, also pleaded with people online as she shared the family's appeal for help. She wrote: 'Please keep sharing and help get my brother home.'
